First, Zayn Malik . Now… everyone?!? One Direction has announced that it will embark on what is being described as an “extended hiatus” after releasing its fifth studio album later this year. But with no tour or promotion planned by the handsome group members starting in March, many fans fear this is simply a euphemism for an impending split. The boy band – which is now comprised of Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan – has mutually agreed to take at least a year long break from making music together in order to pursue their own projects. Yes, a full year! It’s gonna be the least attractive year in pop music history. Malik, of course, quit One Direction this spring, claiming via statement that he wanted to live a “normal” life for a bit. However, he then angered supporters of the group by signing a solo record deal just a couple months later. It’s unclear what the future holds for Harry and company, but they did just release the (very cool) music video for ” Drag Me Down .” Expect to hear from the artists themselves some time this week about the hiatus, and try to think positive thoughts. It took a very long time, but New Kids on the Block eventually returned to the stage together. There’s always hope, people. There’s always hope.
