April 22 is Earth Day: Happy 40th Anniversary

April 22, 2010 marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. It was founded by US Senator Gaylord Nelson way back April 22, 1970. It was designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. During his speech in 1970, Nelson said “Our goal is not just an environment of clean air and water and scenic beauty. The objective is an environment of decency, quality and mutual respect for all other human being and all living creatures.” It has been estimated that 1.5 billion people from all race, religion and gender will come together for this worthwhile cause, and get involved in a number of activities and events. As inhabitants of this planet, it just rightful that we should celebrate Earth Day not only during April 22 but everyday of our lives.
