The thumbs of two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso are recently insured for 10million euros ($13.3m) as part of the Spanish-based bank Santander. Alonso’s thumbs are both significant to F1 driving. His thumbs are “a sign of victory and that everything is under control and well-protected.” Alonso is considered as a national hero in his native Spain after holding back-to-back Formula One world championships in the years 2005 and 2006 when driving for Renault. In the 2007 season, he moved to McLaren but left after o the track with an intense rivalry on and off the track with teammate Lewis Hamilton.
