getty images A young girl of 13, whose identity cannot be disclosed, baffled doctors as she woke from a 24-hour coma speaking in fluent German and unable to speak in her nother tongue. According to the Croatian media reports, the girl was hospitalized due to blood poisoning. Split’s KB Hospital doctors failed to make a diagnosis and have been left baffled by her condition. The teenager, from the southern Croatian town of Knin, had been studying German at school, but her parents maintain she had not been able to communicate in the language previously. “You never know when recovering from such a trauma how the brain will react,” the hospital director Dujomir Marasovic reportedly said. “Obviously we have some theories although at the moment we are limited in what we can say because we have to respect the privacy of the patient.” The girl has been evaluated by paediatricians, psychologists and a neuro-psychiatrist who are yet to find an explanation for the condition.
