The singer George Michael has been jailed for eight weeks for crashing his car while high from cannabis. Michael was arrested at the beginning of July on suspicion of being unfit to drive after he lost control of his car and ploughed into the front of the Hampstead brand of Snappy Snaps in north London. He was banned for driving for six months at his last hearing. Writing on his website, the singer revealed he'd checked himself into a London clinic following the July crash. He said: “Personal problems, which I had tried to deal with myself, had clearly got the better of me. I am sorry that my pride has prevented me from seeking help before now. “You will understand that it would be wrong of me to go into details before the court case has ended, but I feel you should know that on the day after the incident I checked into a clinic for a 14-day detox programme here in London, which has been followed by ongoing outpatient drug counseling several times a week. “As usual, I am overwhelmed by the support and genuine concern that so many of you around the world have expressed.” http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11299938 added by: richjm
