Over the weekend, NCSoft filed a trademark application for the name City of Heroes 2 . No other details are available on the plan were released/revealed, although I’ve put in a call to NCSoft and will let you know if they’re ready to tell us anything yet. The original City of Heroes came out five years ago; the super-heroic MMO has been successful enough to keep going, and a number of add-ons and expansions have been released. While the world of the super-hero has been explored in a number of MMOs — Champions Online , City of Heroes, City of Villains, DC Universe Online (to come) — I don’t think anyone has really nailed it yet. Here’s why: MMOs and super-heroes are incompatible. The thing that makes a person a hero or a super-hero is that he/she is better, stronger, more honorable, more-likely-to-have-armored-skin than normal people. In an MMO, everyone is a super-heroic, so and therefore, no one is a superhero, except the NPCs, and, really, who cares about NPCs in an MMO? Source:
