Reasons given for rating indicate more action and violence than ‘New Moon’ and ‘Twilight’ movies. By Eric Ditzian Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit In an unsurprising development that nonetheless provides titillating insight into what’s to come, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” received a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association of America’s Classification and Ratings Administration, according to a report from BoxOfficeMojo.com . Both “Twilight” and “New Moon” were rated PG-13 as well, but it is the explanation behind their ratings that gives subtle hints as to what “Eclipse” has in store when it hits theaters on June 30. “Eclipse” received a PG-13 rating for “intense sequences of action and violence, and some sensuality.” By contrast, “Twilight” was tagged PG-13 because of “some violence and a scene of sensuality” and “New Moon” nabbed its rating due to “some violence and action.” Was “Twilight” notably more sensual than “New Moon”? According to some folks, so it seems. And what’s the exact distinction between “some sensuality” and “a scene of sensuality”? Does that mean “Eclipse” will have two or more such scenes? That sound you hear? The Twilight-verse uttering a collective, anticipatory shudder. “Eclipse,” no doubt, will feature its Edward-Bella-Jacob love triangle front and center, as the first trailer for the film made clear in March: lovers in a flower-covered meadow, Taylor Lautner with his shirt off and so on. But you can also expect a heavy dose of action — “intense sequences of action and violence,” to be exact — as evidenced by the flick’s second trailer : fights, fights and more fights. What else would you expect from director David Slade, who also helmed the vampire horror movie “30 Days of Night”? So that makes it three straight PG-13 movies, and when it comes to the adaptation of “Breaking Dawn,” the final book in the vampire book series, you can expect more of the same. That is, despite a hefty dose of vampire-on-teenager sex and the horror movie-esque birth of a vampire/human baby, “Breaking Dawn” is planned as a PG-13 release. “That’s your audience,” screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg said last month. “In this series, you don’t sacrifice anything. There are some movies that wouldn’t play at PG-13, like ‘The Hangover,’ but this is just not one of them for me.
