Oh, no; Taylor Lautner’s life is a lie! In the new trailer for Abduction , Twilight ‘s crybaby sex wolf enters a world of intrigue and fear — and I do mean the fearful stare of Sigourney Weaver, who suddenly resembles Christopher Walken when acting terrified. Will Taylor Lautner be smooth enough to survive when he’s stripped of his identity instead of his clothes?
From last year’s set visit to this year’s early screening, we’ve been following Jesse Eisenberg and Aziz Ansari’s comedy all the way. By Eric Ditzian Aziz Ansari and Jesse Eisenberg in “30 Minutes or Less” Photo: Wilson Webb/ Columbia Pictures Like a bomb indestructibly attached to an anxious pizza delivery boy’s chest, “30 Minutes or Less” hasn’t been able to shake MTV News off itself. From the early news updates (Jesse Eisenberg as that unfortunate pie-slinger, “Zombieland” helmer Ruben Fleischer in the director’s chair) to the exclusive first look at the Michigan set to an MTV Sneak Peek Week public screening of the action-comedy and beyond, we’ve been all over this movie. And now that it’s finally hit theaters, we’re not letting go quite yet. So slip on our “30 Minutes” cheat sheet for everything you need to know before heading to the multiplex this weekend. Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock The project began to come together in earnest in the spring of last year, when Fleischer signed on, followed by Aziz Ansari, Eisenberg (a “Zombieland” vet) , Danny McBride and Nick Swardson. In the film, McBride and Swardson play lowlife slackers who hatch a devious, deranged plan: hook Eisenberg’s delivery dude up like a suicide bomber and force him to rob a bank before the explosives go kablooey. Eisenberg, in turn, recruits his best friend, played by Ansari, to help out with the unfortunate activities. “They’re kind of simple dudes,” Swardson later explained to us . “They’re not very learned. But they’re not like robots. At the core, they are actually very nice people. They believe in friendship and things like that.” “They just want to be loved,” added McBride, “whether it takes a bomb or a bank robbery to get there.” Filming kicked off that summer in Grand Rapids, Michigan. MTV News was invited to check out the action in August, when the production settled into a dusty junkyard to shoot McBride and Swardson blowing up watermelons and kidnapping Eisenberg. Fun! But we had to keep the whole thing under wraps for months, until well after the F-bomb-laden, red-band trailer hit the Web this past spring. Light ‘Em Up! On set, all it seemed anyone could talk about was how bad a driver Eisenberg was . The future Oscar nominee didn’t seem to care. “I live in New York City and ride a bicycle, so I never drive ever, so I’ve been given the opportunity and a cool car,” he told MTV News. “Every time I drive, I get yelled at by the crew, but the stunt drivers always wink at me and say, ‘Nah, that was good, man. Keep doing it.’ I’ve been subtly and subversively encouraged to be very dangerous in the car.” In his defense, there is something dangerous and subversive about the whole movie, as further clips would make clear. In one exclusive MTV News debuted , Eisenberg, newly sporting a bomb on his chest, heads straight to the elementary school where Ansari teaches, because hey, where else would a bomb-carrying pizza boy go other than a school filled with young children? “Jesse, to his credit, is a great improviser,” Fleischer told us. “Both in ‘Zombieland’ and in this movie, he is responsible for so many funny lines, and he can kind of roll. I don’t think that’s his most comfortable gear, but when it’s pushed up, he can give back as good as anybody.” Added Ansari , “What was really fun about the movie, and Ruben did such a good job putting the cast together, we all kind of have different energies that play off well with one another.” Almost Out of Time Fans got an early look at those energies days before the MTV Movie Awards, when we staged a sneak-peek screening of the film. It was at the post-screening Q&A that we got to the bottom of the rumor that Taylor Lautner had shot a cameo in the film. “He’s in it!” Ansari joked, before admitting the truth. “I read that somewhere. I was like, ‘I didn’t know about that.’ … Let’s start that rumor. People like him, right? Just say he’s in the movie. ‘That Lautner cameo is dope, man! You gotta see that movie with Taylor Lautner!’ ” There are far more reasons than a “Twilight” star, though, to merit checking out the film in all its ridiculousness. Just peep some footage from the set, when McBride and Swardson blow those watermelons to smithereens . Those guys are, in the best buddy-comedy tradition, total freaking idiots. Their real-life counterparts kind of are too. “Just point to the bank,” Swardson said when we asked what it’d take for him to rob a bank. “Give me a good mask and a loaded weapon, I’m on,” McBride added. Has the torch of hotness been passed? At yesterday’s Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s luncheon in Beverly Hills, Mark Wahlberg took to the podium, looked at Leonardo DiCaprio and said: “I’m sitting at a table with a gentleman who is better looking than you and is in better shape than me. So, we’re both out of a job, dude. Taylor Lautner! We’re screwed.” Wahlberg’s praise flattered Lautner (“Hearing words like that from Mark and everybody it’s just really surreal.”), but they simply caused us to wonder: is the rapper-turned-actor correct? Which of these stars would you rather take it from?
‘She’s gone; you’re not putting these clothes back on,’ Julia Jones recalls to MTV News of saying goodbye to her character, Leah. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Julia Jones Photo: MTV News After filming “Eclipse” and the two-part “Breaking Dawn,” Julia Jones can call herself a “Twilight Saga” veteran. But that doesn’t mean she found going to Comic-Con for the first time any less intimidating. MTV News caught up with Jones in San Diego after the “Breaking Dawn” cast’s packed Hall H panel . Unfortunately, her castmates hadn’t given her much of a heads-up about the insanity of Comic-Con. “We’ve been in front of a lot of people before but this is a new experience for me, Comic-Con,” Jones said. While her fellow castmembers had helped her prepare for the experience of doing fan events for “Eclipse,” Jones said this time they figured she would get the hang of things. “Now I think they just don’t pay attention: ‘She’s been here long enough, she’ll figure it out.’ ” In “Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” Jones and the rest of the wolf pack are featured much more than they have been in previous installments, which gave the actress some room to expand on her character, Leah Clearwater. While Leah is characterized by her anger at Bella (Kristen Stewart) and the Cullens in “Eclipse,” in “Breaking Dawn,” fans will see that her rage has been tempered because a good portion of the story is told from werewolf Jacob Black’s (Taylor Lautner) perspective. “I was thrilled when I read [the script] because she really has the opportunity to kind of grow and she’s not so angry anymore,” Jones explained. “I felt relieved for her when I read that, oh, my gosh, she can actually express these things she hasn’t expressed and go somewhere with it.” As for the last day of shooting the “Twilight” series, Jones admitted that she may have shed a few tears in her trailer when director Bill Condon shouted “Cut!” for the last time. The long shoot made it seem as if filming would never end, she explained, and that made saying goodbye that much harder. “For me, personally, the last day, right when we wrapped, I didn’t believe it. I hadn’t even thought that that was possible. I just stood there like a zombie. People started hugging, like, ‘You’re wrapped, you’re wrapped!’ Like, ‘Go, what are you doing? We need to move on,’ ” Jones said with a laugh. “I actually went back to my trailer and I was fine, I was a little in a daze. And I realized as I was taking my costume off that this is it. She’s gone; you’re not putting these clothes back on. And that was kind of a big thing for me.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . At Comic-Con, director Spielberg and producer Jackson tell MTV News about motion-capture technique. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg at Comic-Con 2011 Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images SAN DIEGO — “The Adventures of Tintin” took San Diego Comic-Con by storm during Friday’s Hall H panel, gifting fans with new footage of the upcoming motion-capture flick and surprise appearances by producer Peter Jackson and star Andy Serkis. The debuted footage was received very favorably, several news outlets reported. Jackson and director Steven Spielberg caught up with MTV News to chat about how motion capture has evolved over the years. Spielberg cited the motion capture in “The Polar Express” as what propelled the animation technique into popularity, which then culminated in its best form when James Cameron and Weta Digital applied it to “Avatar.” Was there any one scene in particular Spielberg found the most difficult to create? “I don’t think it’s any one scene that is tough to crack,” he said. “It’s the medium that has been evolving that took years of development and experimentation and trial and error.” The central focus of the story is obviously the movie’s namesake, Tintin, but there are plenty of other colorful characters fans should look forward to as well. Spielberg said he hopes Tintin is the biggest breakout character to come out of the flick, but Jackson said the rest of the ensemble will have a chance to shine as well. “[Comic creator] Herg
At Comic-Con 2011, ‘Twilight’ star also discusses imprinting scene. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Lautner Photo: MTV News SAN DIEGO — This year’s San Diego Comic-Con has been akin to celebrating Christmas in July for “Twilight” fans. Those lucky enough to catch the highly anticipated “Breaking Dawn” panel Thursday were treated to roughly seven minutes of footage, as well as the appearance of all of their favorite cast members. MTV News chatted with Taylor Lautner briefly about the Comic-Con experience, as well as how he approached the much-discussed imprinting scene . “It’s tough. I think the best way is to just go off the book,” Lautner said. “People ask me questions all the time about imprinting, and I just want to say, ‘Read the book: It explains it all.’ It’s very complicated,” he added. “I can’t wait for everyone to see it. I think they’ll be pleased.” Lautner also continued to heap praise on his young co-star Mackenzie Foy, who plays Edward and Bella’s daughter, Renesmee. “The great thing with Mackenzie is she is the nicest girl,” he said. “She’s so outgoing. Everybody on that set loved her. She’s really talented. I can’t wait for everyone to see her; she’s not until the second one, though,” he pointed out. In regard to which scene he’s most looking forward to seeing in the finished film, Lautner echoed the sentiments of plenty of fans before him. “I’m excited to see the honeymoon stuff — come on,” he said with a smile. “There’s a lot of good stuff.” He added, “I’m super proud of the movie. I think everybody’s really happy with it. It’s great to be back at Comic-Con because we weren’t here for ‘Eclipse,’ so it’s been a little while, so I can’t wait to see all the fans again.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Chris Weitz ‘s L.A. -set drama A Better Life features no stars (well, its lead is ‘the George Clooney of Mexico’) and no vampires, but it got a profile boost Tuesday night when two of the stars of Weitz’s last movie, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner , made a red carpet appearance in support of their former director. Fresh off of filming on November’s Breaking Dawn , the Twilight duo posed for photos but left the media spotlight to Weitz and Co. to talk up their potential awards contender, about an illegal immigrant father and his teenage son struggling to make it in East L.A.
‘Low’ rapper taken into custody in Miami Beach after admitting to police he’d been drinking. By Rob Markman Flo Rida Photo: Miguel Garcia/ Getty Images Things aren’t looking up for Flo Rida . The “Low” rapper was arrested early Thursday morning (June 9) in Miami Beach after cops noticed the 31-year-old swerving his red and black 2008 Bugatti shortly before 4 a.m. Flo (real name: Tramar Dillard) was charged with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license. According to the Miami Herald, when police signaled for Flo Rida to pull over as he drove down Fifth Street, he didn’t stop immediately but did slow down, swerving several times before pulling the vehicle over near Lennox Avenue. The rapper reportedly admitted to police that he had been drinking when cops began to administer a sobriety test. “Officer, I can’t do this,” he said. “I can’t walk a straight line. I had a few drinks.” Flo Rida then told the arresting officers that he lived close by and was able to make it home. A gathering crowd also pleaded with cops, asking them to let the hip-hop star go; a few even offered to drive him home. The rapper was arrested and taken to the Miami Beach Police Department, where he remains jailed. The hitmaker’s alcohol level was reportedly measured at 0.185. The recent arrest is not typical behavior for the pop-rapper, who is known for his high-powered club tracks like the #1 Billboard hit “Right Round.” Related Artists Flo Rida
