STP’s self-titled comeback debuts at a close #2. By Gil Kaufman Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers Photo: Columbia Records It was a squeaker, but the latest “Glee” soundtrack, Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers, will beat back an advance from the reunited Stone Temple Pilots to hold onto the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 for a second consecutive week. Though sales were down more than 50 percent, Showstoppers still moved nearly 63,000 copies, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Just barely behind is the self-titled reunion album from 1990s rockers Stone Temple Pilots , which debuts at #2 on sales of nearly 62,000. At press time, less than 1,400 albums separated the top two discs. Otherwise it is business as usual in the top 10, with unstoppable teen sensation Justin Bieber climbing up one to #3 with My World 2.0 (50,000), followed by Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now (#4, 46,000), Usher ‘s Raymond V. Raymond (#5, 35,000) and Lady Gaga ‘s The Fame, which jumps up six notches to #6 (31,000). Rounding out the top 10 are: the Rolling Stones ‘ Exile on Main St. reissue (down five spots and 64 percent to #7, 27,000), followed by the Black Keys ‘ Brothers (down five spots and 65 percent to #8, 26,000), the Carole King/ James Taylor Live at the Troubadour album (#9, 26,000) and Nas and Damian Marley ‘s Distant Relatives (#10, 25,000). Just outside the top 10, Marc Anthony lands at #11 with the classic ballads album Iconos (24,000), the “Sex and the City 2” soundtrack is close behind at #13 (22,000), and country outlaw Hank Williams III hits #20 with Rebel Within (17,000). After debuting at #7 last week, Band of Horses drop down to #23 with Infinite Arms, as sales trailed by 64 percent. Jam nation figureheads Widespread Panic hit #27 with the debut of their latest, Dirty Side Down (13,000), Janelle Monae takes a tumble from #17 to #40 in week two for her spacy debut, The Archandroid (10,000) and Rihanna ‘s Rated R: Remixed makes a quiet debut at #158 (3,000). Look for the debut of Jack Johnson ‘s To the Sea next week, along with albums from Taio Cruz and Hawthorne Heights . Which new releases are you looking forward to buying this summer?
