“I’m The Gay Tupac”: Jussie Smollett Makes His First Public Appearance Since Chicago Assault

Source: Joseph Marzullo/WENN.com / WENN Jussie Smollett’s Makes First Public Appearance In Los Angeles Jussie Smollett  performed at the West Hollywood’s Troubadour on Saturday in his first public appearance since being assaulted in Chicago earlier this week. The  Empire  star addressed the attack as he held back tears in front of the super supportive audience. “The most important thing that I can say is to keep it simple and say thank you and I’m okay,” the star confirmed. “I’m not fully healed yet, but I’m going to and I’m going to stand strong with you all. I had to be here tonight. I couldn’t let those motherf***ers win.” #JussieSmollett takes the stage at the Troubadour. He gets emotional, saying he’s “not fully healed” but he will be. pic.twitter.com/OZ3LZqKeRQ — Zulekha Nathoo (@ZulekhaNathoo) February 3, 2019 Smollett also set the record straight about a few details regarding the attack. According to him, his ribs were bruised—not cracked as was initially reported—and he did fight back during the assault. “I’m the gay Tupac,” he said about himself. As was previously reported, Jussie was attacked by two masked men allegedly shouting racial and homophobic slurs while walking outside of his Chicago apartment. The attackers reportedly hit him multiple times, poured bleach on him, and put a noose around his neck. No suspects have been apprehended as of yet. Before his appearance this weekend, Smollett issued an official statement where he explained that he is working with authorities to ensure justice is served. His message to the Los Angeles audience was of the same positive vein: “So, I will always stand for love, I will never stand for anything other than that. Regardless of what anyone else says, I will only stand for love and I hope you will all stand with me.”

‘Glee’ Fends Off Stone Temple Pilots On Billboard 200

STP’s self-titled comeback debuts at a close #2. By Gil Kaufman Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers Photo: Columbia Records It was a squeaker, but the latest “Glee” soundtrack, Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers, will beat back an advance from the reunited Stone Temple Pilots to hold onto the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 for a second consecutive week. Though sales were down more than 50 percent, Showstoppers still moved nearly 63,000 copies, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Just barely behind is the self-titled reunion album from 1990s rockers Stone Temple Pilots , which debuts at #2 on sales of nearly 62,000. At press time, less than 1,400 albums separated the top two discs. Otherwise it is business as usual in the top 10, with unstoppable teen sensation Justin Bieber climbing up one to #3 with My World 2.0 (50,000), followed by Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now (#4, 46,000), Usher ‘s Raymond V. Raymond (#5, 35,000) and Lady Gaga ‘s The Fame, which jumps up six notches to #6 (31,000). Rounding out the top 10 are: the Rolling Stones ‘ Exile on Main St. reissue (down five spots and 64 percent to #7, 27,000), followed by the Black Keys ‘ Brothers (down five spots and 65 percent to #8, 26,000), the Carole King/ James Taylor Live at the Troubadour album (#9, 26,000) and Nas and Damian Marley ‘s Distant Relatives (#10, 25,000). Just outside the top 10, Marc Anthony lands at #11 with the classic ballads album Iconos (24,000), the “Sex and the City 2” soundtrack is close behind at #13 (22,000), and country outlaw Hank Williams III hits #20 with Rebel Within (17,000). After debuting at #7 last week, Band of Horses drop down to #23 with Infinite Arms, as sales trailed by 64 percent. Jam nation figureheads Widespread Panic hit #27 with the debut of their latest, Dirty Side Down (13,000), Janelle Monae takes a tumble from #17 to #40 in week two for her spacy debut, The Archandroid (10,000) and Rihanna ‘s Rated R: Remixed makes a quiet debut at #158 (3,000). Look for the debut of Jack Johnson ‘s To the Sea next week, along with albums from Taio Cruz and Hawthorne Heights . Which new releases are you looking forward to buying this summer? Justin Bieber Retakes Top Spot On Billboard Albums Chart

Plus, the National hit #3 with High Violet. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 Photo: Island You might slow him down, but you just can’t stop Justin Bieber . The pint-size pop dynamo will be back on top of the Billboard albums charts next week when his second effort, My World 2.0 , makes the leap from #5 back up to the pole position on modest sales of 60,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Though the total is one of the lowest for a #1 album this year, it is still enough to push 2.0 over the 1 million mark. Hanging tight just behind Bieber is Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now, which is down 44 percent to 54,000, just enough to stave off a strong bid from moody indie darlings the National, whose High Violet notches a career-high #3 debut (51,000). Also debuting in the top 10 is the second effort from White Stripes/Raconteurs leader Jack White’s other side project, the Dead Weather, whose Sea of Cowards hits #5 on sales of 45,000. Filipina pop star Charice lands at #8 with her self-titled debut (43,000), edging out metal act As I Lay Dying’s Powerless Rise, which sneaks in at #10 on sales of 38,000. Rounding out the top 10 are: AC/DC’s Iron Man 2 (48,000), the Carole King and James Taylor Live at the Troubadour collabo, which slips a bit to 43,000, Usher’s Raymond v. Raymond, which ticks up a bit to 43,000, and Godsmack’s The Oracle, which drops eight slots from last week’s #1 debut to #9, as sales fell 63 percent to 43,000. Just outside the top tier, the Deftones take a major tumble in week two as Diamond Eyes sheds 68 percent of its first week sales to fall 12 spots to #18 (20,000). Toni Braxton’s comeback attempt, Pulse, also falls 13 to #22 (18,000), and righteous rockers MercyMe drop 20 spots to #23 with The Generous Mr. Lovewell (18,000). English piano popsters Keane hit #25 with their latest, Night Train (17,000), while classic rock juggernaut Meat Loaf could only muster a #27 debut with Hang Cool Teddy Bear (15,000). And it’s a modest debut for We Are the Fallen’s Tear the World Down at #33 (13,000), as the first effort from former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody and “American Idol” finalist Carly Smithson fails to impress. Buzzed-about New York noise duo Sleigh Bells make an impressive chart debut at #39 with Treats (12,000), while cameo king Bruno Mars comes in at a modest #99 with his debut EP, It’s Better If You Don’t Understand (5,000). Next week, look for the much-hyped reissue of the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main St. to chart, as well as the fourth “Glee” album and the major label debut from Band of Horses. Godsmack Score Third #1 Billboard Debut With Oracle

New releases from the Dixie Chicks’ spin-off Court Yard Hounds, Deftones land in top 10. By James Montgomery Godsmack’s Oracle Photo: Universal You might not be aware of this, but Godsmack ‘s last two albums — 2003’s Faceless and ’06’s IV — have both premiered at #1 on the Billboard albums chart. And now, well, they’ve made it three in a row. The Massachusetts metallers will once again bow in the top spot of next week’s chart, selling more than 117,000 copies of their Oracle album, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It’s a far cry from the 200,000-plus copies Faceless and IV sold in their first weeks, but we get the feeling the guys in Godsmack aren’t too upset about it. Landing at #2 — again — are unstoppable country juggernauts Lady Antebellum , who sold another 97,000 copies of their Need You Now album, moving them past the 2 million mark in total sales. Christian rockers MercyMe are next at #3, after selling nearly 88,000 copies of their album The Generous Mr. Lovewell. The top five is rounded out by Carol King and James Taylor ‘s Live at the Troubadour (78,000) and Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 (64,000). The Deftones ‘ Diamond Eyes bows at #6, with sales of more than 62,000 copies. The self-titled debut from Dixie Chicks spin-off the Court Yard Hounds is next at #7, with sales of more than 61,000 copies. AC/DC ‘s “Iron Man 2” soundtrack is in at #8 (55,000); Toni Braxton ‘s Pulse debuts at #9 (54,000); and Usher ‘s Raymond v. Raymond is at #10, with sales of about 51,000. Outside the top 10, there are debuts from Trina , whose Amazin’ bows at #13 (more than 32,000 copies sold); Bone Thugs-N-Harmony , who return with Uni5: The World’s Enemy (#14, 29,000); indie rockers the New Pornographers ( Together, #18, 25,000) and bar-rock revivalists the Hold Steady , whose Heaven Is Whenever sold nearly 23,000 copies to open at #26.
