Kanye West Is ‘A Good Friend,’ Theophilus London Says

Brooklyn MC hints at possible involvement in West’s G.O.O.D. Music compilation album. By Jocelyn Vena Theophilus London Photo: Getty Images Given their similar aesthetics and emotional rhymes, it’s no surprise that Theophilus London and Kanye West have plans to team up — on something. When MTV News caught up with London this week, he teased that he and Yeezy have some sort of collaboration on the horizon. “He’s working on his G.O.O.D. Music record soon,” London said, not mentioning whether he’s involved in that project. “I’m just happy to be affiliated with him. We email each other back and forth and tip each other off on different fashion things. He’s just a good friend. Right now, I can’t say anything else about that, but he’s just a good friend.” West announced last month that he was working on a G.O.O.D. compilation album , even citing a time frame for when he wanted to drop it. “Goodmusic. The album. Spring 2012,” he tweeted , providing just enough information to get fans excited for what’s to come. These days, Yeezy is on the road with longtime pal Jay-Z on the Watch the Throne Tour . London already caught the show and has only the kindest words to say about it. “I went to check out the Watch the Throne Tour; it’s amazing,” he said of one of two Madison Square Garden shows. “I recommend it.” While Kanye tours with Jay-Z and decides what his next move with London is, the Brooklyn MC is riding the wave of being included on the “Breaking Dawn- Part 1” soundtrack with his song “Neighbors.” “When they asked me do it, I was very privileged and pleased. I wanted to do a super emo song about neighbors and how neighbors are very important,” he said. “A lot of people are freaking out, but it’s a whole new fanbase for me. I’m just so stoked that all these cute girls that like vampires hear my song.” What kind of collabo do you want to see between ‘Ye and Theophilus? Share your ideas in the comments! Theophilus London Was So Fresh, So Clean, On ‘When I Was 17’

‘Last Name London’ MC recalls raiding his dad’s closet for the ‘freshest Jordans’ on Saturday’s brand-new episode. By Sara Waber Theophilus London Theophilus London really should have titled his “Last Name London” single “Last Name Swag.” On this week’s episode of MTV’s “When I Was 17,” the hip-hop artist reveals that style runs in the family. “Shout-out to my dad, he influenced my style when I was 17,” Theophilus says in the episode airing Saturday at 11 a.m. ET/PT. “I was introducing him to be swag,” his father, Moses, says. “You have to be crisp, you got to be clean. You got to be ready for school,” the man behind Theophilus’ exceptional style recalls advising his son. While Theophilus didn’t have a big spending budget, he found creative ways to get the looks he wanted, and that included hitting up his dad’s very hip closet. “I didn’t have that much money, so I’d wake up in the morning and raid my dad’s closet,” he explains. “He had all the freshest Jordans, and he never wore his Jordans, so I was like, ‘Man, somebody needs to wear them.’ ” Of course, he made sure not to nick the kicks. Fans got to see firsthand just how the rapper uses his eye for fashion to make the ladies swoon when MTV News’ Rya Backer took Theophilus on a First Date to a vintage thrift store. But even back in the day, the NYC rapper was trying to make the girls’ heads turn. “My clothes [on] Sunday would be picked out for the week: This is Monday, this is Tuesday; this girl is gonna like my outfit on Friday.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Amy Lee, Chris Klein and Theophilus London — airs on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET/PT on MTV. Amy Lee Skates To Detention On ‘When I Was 17’

Evanescence singer, Theophilus London and Chris Klein featured on new episode, airing Saturday at 11 a.m. ET on MTV. By Nuzhat Naoreen Amy Lee on “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV From accomplished vocalist to skilled pianist, Evanescence singer Amy Lee has plenty of talents to boast. But in the latest episode of “When I Was 17,” airing Saturday, Amy reveals another skill that might surprise her fans: roller skating. In the episode, the singer-songwriter recounts how skating around her high school hallways landed her in some serious trouble. “When I was 17, our school had really slick floors. There was this really big hall, and it was perfect for roller skating,” the singer says. So, Amy decided to take advantage of the situation. “The halls are empty when people are in class, and if it’s just study hall or art or whatever, then why not go for a little skate?” Her “little skate” however wasn’t without its consequences. “I don’t know why I thought that that would be good,” she says. “So, I was skating by myself. Total nerd. And some other teacher was in the hall, and I skated by, and she was like, ‘Detention!’ ” While detention is a pretty common punishment for misbehaving high school students, it caught Amy’s father off-guard. “It was a little bit of a big deal. She got in trouble, and Amy typically never got in trouble,” says her father, John. Of course, even back in high school, Amy found a way to translate her experience with the teacher who sent her to detention into something creative. “One of my art pieces after that was her getting skated over by a giant skate,” Amy says. “When I Was 17,” also featuring Theophilus London and Chris Klein, airs Saturday at 11 a.m. ET on MTV.
