Conan O’Brien Heads to Bonnaroo, Looks for ‘Boobies’

Conan O’B rien is officially everywhere. The gangly red head drove his “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television” tour bus into Manchester, Tennessee on Friday for an appearance at Bonnaroo, where fans waited eight hours in stifling heat to see him perform. Once on stage, Coco joked that in six months he went “from hosting The Tonight Show to performing at a refugee camp.” Oh Conan — you so crazy! While at the music and comedy festival, O’B rien also took time out to act as hype man for Nas and Damian Marley. And before you make a joke, just know Conan already did: “I’m here because when you think reggae and hip hop, you think Conan O’B rien!” After the jump, video of Conan introducing Nas and Marley and a plea from the TBS host to see some “boobies.” Hey, it is Bonnaroo after all.

Justin Bieber Retakes Top Spot On Billboard Albums Chart

Plus, the National hit #3 with High Violet. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 Photo: Island You might slow him down, but you just can’t stop Justin Bieber . The pint-size pop dynamo will be back on top of the Billboard albums charts next week when his second effort, My World 2.0 , makes the leap from #5 back up to the pole position on modest sales of 60,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Though the total is one of the lowest for a #1 album this year, it is still enough to push 2.0 over the 1 million mark. Hanging tight just behind Bieber is Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now, which is down 44 percent to 54,000, just enough to stave off a strong bid from moody indie darlings the National, whose High Violet notches a career-high #3 debut (51,000). Also debuting in the top 10 is the second effort from White Stripes/Raconteurs leader Jack White’s other side project, the Dead Weather, whose Sea of Cowards hits #5 on sales of 45,000. Filipina pop star Charice lands at #8 with her self-titled debut (43,000), edging out metal act As I Lay Dying’s Powerless Rise, which sneaks in at #10 on sales of 38,000. Rounding out the top 10 are: AC/DC’s Iron Man 2 (48,000), the Carole King and James Taylor Live at the Troubadour collabo, which slips a bit to 43,000, Usher’s Raymond v. Raymond, which ticks up a bit to 43,000, and Godsmack’s The Oracle, which drops eight slots from last week’s #1 debut to #9, as sales fell 63 percent to 43,000. Just outside the top tier, the Deftones take a major tumble in week two as Diamond Eyes sheds 68 percent of its first week sales to fall 12 spots to #18 (20,000). Toni Braxton’s comeback attempt, Pulse, also falls 13 to #22 (18,000), and righteous rockers MercyMe drop 20 spots to #23 with The Generous Mr. Lovewell (18,000). English piano popsters Keane hit #25 with their latest, Night Train (17,000), while classic rock juggernaut Meat Loaf could only muster a #27 debut with Hang Cool Teddy Bear (15,000). And it’s a modest debut for We Are the Fallen’s Tear the World Down at #33 (13,000), as the first effort from former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody and “American Idol” finalist Carly Smithson fails to impress. Buzzed-about New York noise duo Sleigh Bells make an impressive chart debut at #39 with Treats (12,000), while cameo king Bruno Mars comes in at a modest #99 with his debut EP, It’s Better If You Don’t Understand (5,000). Next week, look for the much-hyped reissue of the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main St. to chart, as well as the fourth “Glee” album and the major label debut from Band of Horses. Conan O’Brien To Launch His TBS Show November 8

‘The plot to ‘Lost’ is more plausible than my last year at NBC,’ O’Brien quips during announcement. By Eric Ditzian Conan O’Brien performs on his “Legally Prohibited” tour Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty images In the end, Conan O’Brien will have been gone from the airwaves for 289 days: the time between his final “Tonight Show” episode and the launch of his TBS late-night program . O’Brien’s new show will debut Monday, November 8, according to multiple news reports . The announcement was made at the TBS upfront presentation Wednesday (May 19) at the Hammerstein Theatre in New York City. O’Brien himself was on hand for the event, cracking jokes and even breaking into song. “The plot to ‘Lost’ is more plausible than my last year at NBC,” he quipped at one point. “I really believe in cable television,” he continued. “I do not want to live in a country with less than five ESPN networks.” The floppy-haired comedian also busted into a revamped version of Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again,” changing the lyrics to croon, “I just want to be on my own show again.” Not for 173 more days, CoCo! That his new show will air on TBS , rather than Fox, came as a huge surprise to even media insiders when it was announced in April. O’Brien’s reps were deep in negotiations with Fox until the talk-show host made a stunning reversal and decided to take his talents to cable. The show will air Mondays through Thursdays at 11 p.m. ET/PT. “Lopez Tonight,” which currently airs at 11 p.m., will shift to midnight. “Conan has been the comedic voice for a generation,” Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks, said at the time. “TBS already has a huge audience of young comedy lovers, and Conan’s show will give these fans even more reasons to watch our network.” During Wednesday’s upfront, Conan joked to his new boss, “Steve, thanks for the blank creative check … you fool!” Will you watch Conan’s TBS show? Conan O’Brien Found TBS Through JDate, and 5 Other Jokes From Coco’s Upfront Set

For Conan O’B rien, this morning’s TBS upfront presentation was just another pit stop on his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour, and he opened the Hammerstein Ballroom show with a video sketch that found him lazing around his house in a fat suit, eating pizza, jumping on a trampoline in sweats, and answering the phone (“Hello, job!?…No, there is no Debbie here”). Eventually, Conan appeared to wild applause from the crowd of reporters, a premiere date for his show was announced — November 8 — and he launched into his new material. Here were his 6 best jokes:

Conan O’Brien Talks Jay Leno On ’60 Minutes’: ‘I Wouldn’t Have Done That’

‘Everyone’s got their own, you know, way of doing things,’ he says during the interview, airing Sunday night. By Eric Ditzian Conan O’Brien Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images We’ve already heard Jay Leno’s side of things when it comes to his late-night feud with Conan O’Brien over the the keys to “The Tonight Show.” Now it’s O’Brien’s turn for a little on-camera venting in an interview with “60 Minutes.” According to excerpts released by CBS News , the comedian is not holding anything back. “He went and took that show back, and I think in a similar situation, if roles had been reversed, I know … I know me, I wouldn’t have done that,” O’Brien said. “If I had surrendered ‘The Tonight Show’ and handed it over to somebody publicly and wished them well and then … six months later. But that’s me, you know. Everyone’s got their own, you know, way of doing things.” What would O’Brien have done instead? “Done something else, go someplace else,” he said. “I mean, that’s just me.” O’Brien is currently on a 32-city live show sweep across North America with his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour . In a shocking turn earlier this month, the displaced NBC host inked a deal with TBS to launch a new late-night show on the cable network rather than, as had been widely presumed, a show on Fox. As the NBC brouhaha flared up at the start of the year, O’Brien said he came to realize that his relationship with the network had been irrevocably damaged. “I think this relationship is going be toxic, and maybe we just need to go our separate ways,” he said. “That’s really how it felt to me … and I started to feel that I’m not sure these people even really want me here. … I can’t do it [anymore].” The full “60 Minutes” interview will air Sunday at 7 p.m. ET. What (and Who) You Missed At Conan’s Irony-Packed Universal City Tour Stop

Chances are that you were not among the lucky thousands who attended Conan O’B rien’s “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television” show at the Gibson Amphitheater in LA this past Saturday. Too bad, because that was probably the starriest stop on his tour map, and definitely the only one within 400 yards of his former Tonight Show stage. Fortunately for you, Movieline has compiled a multimedia round-up of everything you missed, including videos, jokes, and the A-list guest list.

Conan O’Brien Brings Out Jim Carrey, More Celeb Pals At L.A. Show

Aziz Ansari, Jonah Hill and Jon Hamm also join Team Coco for the Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour. By Katie Byrne Conan O’Brien on stage during his “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Televison Tour” Photo: Noel Vasquez/ Getty UNIVERSAL CITY, California — For seven short months, Conan O’Brien hosted “The Tonight Show” on the Universal Studios back lot. In a full-circle moment on Saturday night, the comedian brought his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour to Universal Studios’ Gibson Amphitheatre, a mere 400 yards from his old stage. “This is my first time back at Universal Studios since I lost my job,” O’Brien announced to the sold-out crowd, causing the Conan-crazy fans to boo his former employer, NBC. “Don’t boo too loudly. If you listen very carefully, you can hear bad ideas being green-lit.” Aside from occasional jabs at O’Brien’s old network, the traveling variety show was nothing but a love-fest between TBS’ newest late-night host and his devoted fanbase. O’Brien even brought a few extra-special treats to L.A. (since his celeb pals didn’t have to travel too far to join him onstage), including appearances by Jonah Hill, 2010 MTV Movie Awards host Aziz Ansari and Jim Carrey as Superman. Conan O’Brien’s ‘Legally Prohibited’ Tour Invades L.A. After lamenting how tough it is to be Conan O’Brien, the funnyman launched into Five for Fighting’s “Superman (It’s Not Easy)” only to be joined in the second verse by Carrey, who emerged from the crowd in red-and-blue tights. The pair hammed it up during the duet, trading over-the-top vocal runs and awkward dance moves. The real guest-star cavalcade came during the “Walker, Texas Ranger” Lever , a staple from Conan’s late-night shows that (for legal reasons) will now be known as the Chuck Norris Rural Policeman Handle. Ansari, Hill, “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm and “30 Rock” page Jack MacBrayer all took turns pulling the handle to activate ridiculous (and completely real) “Walker” scenes. “I’m just glad I’m not one of the guys who works for NBC pulling the handle,” Hamm quipped, pointing out Ansari’s and MacBrayer’s day jobs on Peacock comedies. Conan bestie Andy Richter, former “Tonight Show” writer Deon Cole and Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog also got in on the action with bits throughout the two-hour show. Comedian Reggie Watts kick-started the night with 20 ridiculous minutes of accents, beatboxing and unintelligible lyrics. O’Brien will be back on the Gibson stage Sunday night (April 25) before heading to San Diego on Thursday. Are you planning to see Conan’s tour? Are you looking forward to his TBS show?
