The value of human life in “Chiraq” is little to nothing…so sad Violence In Chicago Continues With 6 Dead And 17 Shot This Weekend Via NYDailyNews Chicago’s summer of violence continues to heat up as shooting continue to plague the metropolis. The latest tally: Six dead, 17 injured in several shootings Friday and Saturday into Sunday morning. “Please, we gotta stop the killing, we have to stop, we have to stop!” Juannake Kenney said Saturday during a press conference, one day after her 6-year-old daughter was shot and seriously injured. “My child loves life, she enjoys it,” her father Kenneth Tompkins added. “She really gets it. To rob her of that, to attempt to rob her of that, is ridiculous. Something needs to be done about this before somebody else’s child gets shot for no reason.” Sadly, in the time it took to make the statement, someone else’s child probably WAS shot for no reason… That Friday night shooting came while the girl, Quianna Tompkins, and 40 other people were at a candlelight vigil marking five years since the killing of a 24-year-old man. A 52-year-old woman was shot as well when police say a man walked up and started firing. The girl was hit in the chest as she rode a scooter while the woman, her aunt, the Chicago Tribune reported, was shot in the thigh. The shooting may have stemmed from an earlier altercation, NBC Chicago reported. “She ran from the sidewalk up to the grass and she collapsed,” Vanessa Ross, who hosted the memorial, said of Quianna. “She just laid there.” The bloodshed spilled over into Saturday. One man was fatally shot after a suspect fired six rounds into his car, which sat at a gas station. Then, early Sunday, a group shot up a birthday party where wounding three and killing one. That same day a 17-year-old girl was shot in the foot and later in the early morning Sunday, two men were shot, including another fatally. A gunman also opened fire at a birthday party, shooting four people; one 28-year-old victim died. The weekend violence didn’t end there however… About 10:30 a.m., a 14-year-old boy was gunned down in broad daylight, the most recent in the spate of shootings. The six killed marked yet another busy weekend for Chicago shooters. This year, 232 people have been killed in the city, about 9% below the 10-year average for this time of year, according to a Tribune calculation of the killings. A total of 507 people were killed last year, the newspaper reported. We can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to live everyday in constant fear of your life. To our Chicago readers, be careful out there. Image via Shutterstock
