‘Dark Knight Rises’ Takes Over Manhattan in New Set Photos

Batman makes an appearance in the cockpit of the Batwing in new pics. By Kevin P. Sullivan Joseph Gordon-Levitt films a scene of “Dark Knight Rises” in Manhattan in front of the Stock Exchange on Sunday Photo: Getty Images Batman has returned to Gotham — New York City, that is — to film scenes from “The Dark Knight Rises” and he arrived in style. More set photos hit the Web on Monday (October 31), mostly depicting the same scenes featured in online images from last week, but with one big change. (Fans should be forewarned: there are spoilers ahead .) For photos from the set, click here. In one of the pictures published last week, Joseph Gordon-Levitt ‘s character, a beat cop named John Blake, escorts Christian Bale ‘s Batman, who’s dressed in business attire; in another, the beat cop fires a gun at some fleeing bikers. Gordon-Levitt’s character has been the center of much discussion about the “Rises” plot and who the character may end up being. One rumor that continues to circulate is that John Blake may end up being Robin, the Boy Wonder, something Gordon-Levitt has remained quiet about. The latest crop of pictures follows what is presumably the same scene but further along in the action. The riders on the motocross bikes are still driving away and jumping over cop cars, but this time the Batwing is visible . Although the Batwing has been featured in dozens of leaked set photos, the pictures posted by a user to the Superhero Hype forum are particularly interesting because they clearly show Batman in the cockpit. If that wasn’t enough, he seems to be hovering above a large explosive device in the middle of the street. It’s unclear who ends up on the back of the motorcycles or what they’re doing on them. Matthew Modine was on set, but there are conflicting reports on what role his character, Nixon, is playing and whether it was actually Modine’s stunt double on the back of the bike. ‘Dark Knight Rises’: Batwing First Look!

Photos from the Pittsburgh set continue to reveal new bits of the Christopher Nolan flick. By Eric Ditzian The Batwing on the set of “Dark Knight Rises” Ultra-secretive “Dark Knight Rises” director Christopher Nolan has met his match in the city of Pittsburgh. The filmmaker is famous for keeping his actors on spoiler-dishing lockdown, with “Inception” star Joseph Gordon-Levitt once telling us how his boss “very specifically asked [him] not to talk about” the mind-bending thriller and Anne Hathaway joking about taking a blood oath not to reveal anything about her role of Catwoman. Check out photos of the Batwing on the set of “Dark Knight Rises”! But as “Rises” continues to shoot on location in Pittsburgh, almost every day brings a fresh batch of spoiler-filled photos and videos about the comic-book flick. The latest is the first glimpse of what appears to be the Batwing, the Caped Crusader’s signature aircraft. The aircraft appears to utilize fan-driven engines and be made of a series of interlocking plates, indicating that the ship may have some sort of shape-shifting quality. Such a transformational vehicle wouldn’t be out of place in Nolan’s Gotham City; in the “Dark Knight,” part of Batman’s Tumbler turned out to contain a hidden Batpod. A YouTube video from set shows the Batwing being driven down a street during the shoot, its massive body gyrating back and forth, a Batman dummy placed in the cockpit. In his many comic book, TV and film incarnations, Batman has long had an aerial vehicle. Tim Burton, in 1989’s “Batman,” introduced the idea of (and the name for) the Batwing. Nolan thus far has not delivered anything of the sort. “Dark Knight Rises,” however, seems to be utilizing a slew of vehicles for the film, from a bunch of camouflaged Tumblers to Hathaway’s Catwoman on the Batpod itself to this new aircraft. And while we know far more at this point about “Dark Knight Rises” than we ever could have expected, and certainly more than Nolan would likely prefer, there remains much we don’t know. Even what we have seen, Hathaway let MTV News know, doesn’t give everything away. “What I am happy to say is: If you didn’t like the photo,” she said of the first look at her in character as Catwoman , “you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .
