Locked Out Abroad: Mos Def (Yasiin Bey) Not Allowed To Re-Enter USA Due To Immigration Issues

Mos might have to get used to South African living… Mos Def Barred From Returning To The US Due To Unspecified Immigration Issues What immigration issues could a United States-born citizen have? Something in the milk ain’t quite clean. NY Daily News reports: You really can’t go home again. Yasiin Bey, the artist formerly known Mos Def, has canceled his U.S. tour after being denied entry into the country of his birth. The “Mathematics” rapper, who has been living in South Africa for the past year, has been barred by “immigration/legal issues,” according to a statement on the Boston Together Music Festival site flagged by London’s The Guardian. Central America. North America. Europe for a while. “And I came to Cape Town in 2009, and it just hit me. I was like, ‘Yeah.’ I know when a good vibe gets to you. And, you know, I thought about this place every day from when I left. I was like, ‘I’m comin’ back.’” “For a guy like me, who had five or six generations not just in America but in one town in America, to leave America, things gotta be not so good with America,” he added. Could these “mystery issues” keeping him out be his very public criticism of the US government? Hmmm…
