Rapper was arrested last year at the Los Angeles airport for crack cocaine possession. By Shawn Adler Coolio Photo: Phillip Massey/ Getty Images A bench warrant was issued Monday (April 5) for rapper Coolio’s arrest after he failed to show up to court for a legally mandated progress report, according to TMZ.com . The rapper (born Artis Leon Ivey Jr.) was arrested last year and pleaded guilty to possession of narcotics, specifically crack cocaine. He is currently on probation. Coolio’s lawyer tried but was unable to get in touch with the now-fugitive rapper, the Web site reported. Best known for his “Dangerous Minds”-inspired 1995 hit “Gangsta’s Paradise,” Coolio was arrested last March after a Los Angeles airport screener found crack in the rapper’s possession. The arrest was the nadir in a series of low points for Coolio, who just weeks previous to the incident was robbed of shoes and jewels while stage-diving during a performance at Staffordshire University in England. The singer, without a single chart hit in nearly 10 years, has more recently transitioned to acting, appearing on “Charmed” and “Futurama,” as well as a number of reality shows, including “Celebrity Fear Factor,” “Celebrity Bootcamp” and the recent online cooking show, “Cookin’ With Coolio.” The Compton, California-born 46-year-old also starred in the Oxygen network show “Coolio’s Rules” and Britain’s “Celebrity Big Brother.” A bench warrant allows for any individual to be immediately taken into custody and brought before a judge. Bench warrants are typically issued when offending parties do not show up for scheduled court appearances. Related Artists Coolio
