Melissa McCarthy Slammed as "Tractor-Sized Hippo" in Identity Theft Review

Rex Reed of The New York Observer made his feelings very clear this week in an Identity Theft review : the critic is not a fan of the comedy. That’s perfectly reasonable, of course, but Reed is receiving major backlash at the moment due to his personal attack against actress Melissa McCarthy. In his critique, Reed refers to the star as a “female hippo,” adding that she is “cacophonous” and tractor-sized.” “Melissa McCarthy ( Bridesmaids ) is a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success,” writes Reed. “Poor Jason Bateman. How did an actor so charming, talented, attractive and versatile get stuck in so much dreck?” Ouch. Damn. Are these fair criticisms for a movie critic to make? You tell us: Referring to McCarthy’s weight is…   Fair game! Totally out of bounds! View Poll »

Emma Watson Defends Kristen Stewart: No One is Perfect

In a new interview with Vanity Fair Italia, Emma Watson steps up for Kristen Stewart, telling the magazine that cheating on Robert Pattinson was a mistake… … but who among us has not made mistakes? “Those who criticized her are the same people that think that being rich and famous is like being covered in some kind of magic powder that makes life perfect: Nothing can go wrong in your wonderful world,” Watson explained. “For these people, Kristen deserves all the bad things that have been thrown at her because she had an amazing life and she ruined it.” Wait… so being a famous actress does NOT mean one’s life is perfect? Nor does it mean one is an angel who can never stray from what is right? “I thought that the media picked on her in a very horrible way,” the Harry Potter star continued. “Kristen is human, just like everybody else, and she’s so young. Everyone makes mistakes… “On one hand, I can understand why it happened: people felt really involved in her relationship with Robert Pattinson. “But it’s also true that they both have done everything in their power to keep their relationship as far from the public eye as possible.” Where do you stand, readers? Kristen and Rob have advanced to the our THG Couples Championship . But some insiders claim the couple is about to split .

Lady Gaga on ARTPOP: It’s What You Want

Will Lady Gaga’s new album mark a resurgence for the songstress? It’s hard to believe, but it’s been two years since Born This Way dropped. Since then, the 26-year-old has dropped out of the public consciousness a bit. Her forthcoming record ARTPOP should chance that … right? Gaga, who made news last week by f-bombing former assistant Jennifer O’Neill in a deposition, called BTW “a form of therapy” and “a movement.” How does she view ARTPOP? Apparently it’s a happier album , first off, and she “knows what we want, and that’s fun, dirty, dance music, and there’s no shortage of it on ARTPOP.” Lady Gaga reportedly considers ARTPOP her first “real” album and is worried if she’ll ever be able to top it because she knows it’s that good. She doesn’t lack for confidence or self-esteem, that’s for sure. You excited for her new album? Or are you over Gaga?
