‘We couldn’t be happier than to celebrate our engagement over the holidays with our families,’ actors tells People. By Aly Semigran Ginnifer Goodwin and Joey Kern Photo: Jeff Vespa/ Getty Ginnifer Goodwin has had to endure love the hard way on the big and small screen (“He’s Just Not That Into You,” “Big Love”), but now the actress is getting to enjoy the real deal offscreen with the announcement of her engagement to actor Joey Kern. Goodwin, 32, and Kern, 34, confirmed to People magazine that they got engaged on Christmas Eve. “We couldn’t be happier than to celebrate our engagement over the holidays with our families,” they said in a statement. The pair began dating in 2008 after being set up by a mutual friend. Kern (best known for roles in movies such as “Cabin Fever” and “Super Troopers”) asked for Goodwin’s hand earlier in December. An unnamed source told Us Weekly, “Joey emailed all his friends back on the 12th and gave them the good news.” According to E! News , Kern made the engagement even more notable by popping the question with a ring that he had designed himself. In addition to getting ready for their impending nuptials (the two are planning a fall 2011 wedding), Goodwin, who previously dated “American Pie” actor Chris Klein, will head back to work to begin filming the fifth, and final, season of “Big Love,” as well as promoting her upcoming romantic comedy “Something Borrowed.” In the adaptation of Emily Giffin’s chick-lit novel, Goodwin plays a woman who falls for her best friend’s fianc
