R. Kelly To Drop Write Me Back Album In June

Pied Piper of R&B will roll out his 11th album on June 26. By Nadeska Alexis R. Kelly’s Write Me Back album cover Photo: RCA Records After taking a break from singing to undergo emergency throat surgery last year, R. Kelly is making an official return with his 11th studio album, Write Me Back, set for release on June 26. “Share My Love,” the lead single from Write Me Back, was released in February and has already made waves on radio. The latest cut, “Feelin’ Single” will be available digitally on May 29. The new LP is a follow-up to R. Kelly’s 2010 release Love Letter, which was an ode to music from the ’50s and ’60s. Back in December, Kells shocked fans when he announced that he would be adding 32 chapters to his popular “Trapped in the Closet” series , and in March it was confirmed that the series would be aired on IFC later this year. Twenty-two chapters exist thus far in the soap opera series that begins with a one-night stand and weaves into an extended tale of sex and lies, starring Kelly’s alter ego, Sylvester. “When I first began experiencing the unknown journey of writing ‘Trapped in the Closet,’ I knew after the first chapter that I had tapped into something that was not of this earth,” R. Kelly said in a statement at the time of the IFC announcement. “Being the nosy person that I am, I more than anyone wanted to know what the second chapter would be. And now here we are at chapter 23, trapped in the million dollar question — what the hell is the package? Well, ladies and gentlemen, not only am I ready to reveal what the package is, but I have many more chapters to share.” It’s set to be a pretty eventful year for the Pied Piper. In February, he was one of the entertainers at Whitney Houston’s funeral, performing a moving rendition of the late singer’s hit “I Look to You,” which he also wrote. Related Artists R. Kelly

Usher ‘Trained Hard’ For ‘Fuerza Bruta’: Watch A Sneak Peek!

‘Climax’ singer sits down for an intimate chat with fans during ‘MTV First’ tomorrow at 7:54 p.m. ET on MTV! By Jocelyn Vena Usher’s “Fuerza Bruta” performance Photo: MTV News Don’t get it twisted: Just because Usher is known for smooth dance moves and rock-hard abs, it doesn’t mean he didn’t have to push himself for his short run in the trippy, off-Broadway show “Fuerza Bruta.” For one night last month, Ush played the show’s lead, Running Man, and offered lucky attendees an advance listen to his June 12 album release, Looking 4 Myself. As fans will see in the exclusive clip — and on Wednesday night’s “MTV First: Usher” at 7:54 p.m. ET — “Fuerza” required Usher to use every muscle of his body as he danced, ran, jumped and tumbled his way through the show, where no one speaks, instead telling the story through bright lights, music and dance. MTV News had a front seat as Usher rehearsed for his onstage appearance in April, and when we chatted with him on set, he opened up about using the physicality of the show to tell the story of his album. “It’s not often that you’re able to give somewhat of a visual or an emotional kind of basis of what your songs mean,” he said. “A lot of times we’re running thorough life and were trying to find ourselves, and I feel like that was somewhat of what the messaging was with the show, but it was really artistic. “This is more artistic an album than I’ve had in history and I felt like, yeah, it would be a physical challenge, yeah it would be a lot for me, but [I want to] at least try it,” he added. “There are many times I’d seen the show and I’d only hoped that I would make it happen. It looked it really hard, they made it look easy, but it was obviously hard. But, of course, I’ve been training and it came at a perfect time.” Watching Usher do all those acrobatics may have had fans wondering whether it was all that difficult for him since he makes it look so easy. He joked, “I work hard, baby.” Usher will dish on the show, his album and more during “MTV First: Usher,” all set to take place on Wednesday at 7:54 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. He will introduce exclusive footage and his new single, the Pharrell-produced “Twisted,” and will stick around for a meaty interview with MTV News’ Sway Calloway to discuss his new album and more on MTV.com. The performances featured in “MTV First: Usher” were shot exclusively by MTV News during a special album-listening experience with the off-Broadway show “Fuerza Bruta” in New York City. Be sure to catch “MTV First: Usher” tomorrow at 7:54 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com! Related Videos Get Ready For ‘MTV First: Usher’! Related Artists Usher

Usher To Preview Looking For Myself At Off-Broadway Show

Singer tells MTV News ‘Fuerza Bruta’ matches the ‘more artistic’ music on his upcoming album. By Jocelyn Vena Usher Photo: Todd Williamson/ WireImage This Saturday (and this Saturday only), Usher will appear in New York City’s “Fuerza Bruta,” an off-Broadway show where no one speaks, but the story is told through bright lights, music and dancing. In the lead role of Running Man, Usher will also use the show to preview his June album release, Looking for Myself. Fans in the audience will likely get closer than they’ve ever been to the singer, as the audience stands during the performance, becoming another member of the company. With several weeks until his album release, Usher explained to MTV News at a rehearsal why he wanted to use this show to preview tracks. “I felt like the natural elements as well as the emotion of ‘Fuerza Bruta’ would definitely speak or be significant to some of the stories and I guess hopefully a connection [was there],” he explained of tying this performance to his album. “When we began to explore different directions [for the performance like] maybe we use some of their music, maybe we use some of mine … and before you knew it the idea came together. We tried it, I got on Running Man and it worked.” The show will stream his entire album, which drops June 12, and he thinks the mind-bending artistry of “Fuerza Bruta” works with the sound he’s created on it. “This is more artistic of an album than I’ve had in history,” he said. “And I felt like yeah, it would be a lot for me, but I was willing to at least try it. There were many times I had seen the show and I only hoped that I would be able to make it happen.” Related Artists Usher
