In a new interview with Parade magazine, Elton John says he doesn’t wish to be famous. How come? “Princess Diana, Gianni Versace, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, all dead. Two of them shot outside their houses. None of this would have happened if they hadn’t been famous. Fame attracts lunatics. I never had a bodyguard until Gianni died. I don’t like celebrity anymore.” That’s all well and good, but it then makes the singer’s subsequent comments about Jesus Christ – yes, that Jesus Christ – all the more unusual. If you don’t wish to be in the news, Elton, you probably shouldn’t say that Jesus was a homosexual. “I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems,” John said. “On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don’t know what makes people so cruel.” Come to think of it, Jesus was really into fashion. You could argue that he started the crucifix-wearing trend that continues to this day. He’s also well-remembered for eating dinner with 12 other men. Hmmm…. Was Jesus Christ the Adam Lambert of his era? Discuss!
