Man Finds $98K in Desk Bought on Craigslist, Returns it to Original Owner

Noah Muroff, a rabbi in New Haven, Conn., bought a desk he found listed on Craigslist and ended up discovering a bag filled $98,000 cash inside. He then returned it to the woman he bought it from. Man Finds 98K In Desk Bought on Craigslist “The desk didn’t fit into this office by fraction of an inch,” Muroff said, explaining that he’d unscrewed the desktop to make it fit and made the discovery. “Behind the drawers there is this plastic bag … in that bag, I could already see through the bag, there’s it looks like a hundred dollar bill,” he recalled. “We open it up and it’s full of cash … $98,000 in the bag . Right away my wife and I sort of looked at each other and said, ‘We can’t keep this money.’” The Muroffs knew that the money belonged to the original desk owner, who said that she bought the piece from Staples and assembled it herself. So he called her and explained his find. The original owner, identified only as “Patty,” was speechless on the other end of the phone, only saying: “Oh my gosh, because I… oh my God.” Patty said that she knew she stored the money she inherited in the desk, but she was unable to find it when it fell behind the desk’s filing drawer. She assumed that the money was somewhere else in her home when she couldn’t locate it and sold the desk, never thinking it was still in there. Rabbi Noah, a father of four young children and also a ninth grade Rabbi at Yeshiva of New Haven, brought his entire family along when he returned it. It was an opportunity, he said, to teach his kids a lesson about honesty and truth. When they arrived, Patty refunded the $150 price of the desk. She was overwhelmed with the family’s good deed and wrote them a note saying, “I can’t thank you enough for your honesty and integrity.” “I do not think there are too many people in this world that would have done what you did by calling me,” ending the note, “I will be forever grateful.”

Mom Finds Son More Than 30 Years After He Went Missing

A woman whose son was abducted by her estranged husband and taken to Mexico three decades ago recently learned her son is back in the U.S. Kathy Amaya told NBC 7 San Diego that she hasn’t seen her son David since he was just a toddler. Her husband at the time took the boy to Mexico. She says she’s been looking for the child, who she tried to report missing, ever since. Mother Finds Son 30 Years After He Went Missing David Amaya was raised by his grandparents in Mexico and doesn’t speak English. His father told David he was American , but didn’t tell him he was taken from the country without his mom’s permission. David said via an interpreter: “My father told me my mother had left me abandoned and orphaned.” “I don’t know my mother, and now I find out she’s been looking for me for 30 years, and I have the longing to meet her for the first time.” David’s father and aunt reportely took him to Mexico under a one-month permit to visit his grandparents. However, he said his father left him there. He only visited handful of times over the last three decades. On October 30, David tried crossing the U.S./Mexico border without documents. U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents detained him for two days. “They did not believe me that I was an American,” David said. Border Patrol agents say they actually did, which led them to investigate and find a birth certificate showing the 37-year-old was born in Chicago in 1976. That’s when Kathy got a call from Border Patrol in San Diego. “They told me that they had someone detained that was crossing the border and he said his name was David Amaya,” she said. “I wasn’t sure if it was him.” “We did some research and found out it was.” A San Diego ministry is providing food and shelter for David as the ministry tries to raise the funds to get him to Wisconsin to he can see his family. The ministry’s pastor arranged a call between David and his mother. Even though the two don’t speak the same language, the reunion was emotional. “He just told me that he doesn’t hold anything against me,” said Kathy, who has four other kids in addition to David. “So that makes me happy.”

Miss Teen USA Sextortion Plot: Jared James Abrahams Guilty of Cassidy Wolf Blackmail

Jared James Abrahams, a 19-year-old Southern California computer student, is facing federal prison for hacking the webcam of Miss Teen USA Cassidy Wolf. Wolf and a dozen other young women worldwide were hacked and blackmailed with the threat of going public with naked pictured he secretly took. Abrahams pleaded guilty to four counts of extortion and one count of unauthorized access of a computer. He will serve 27-33 months in federal prison. Court records show that his victims, which included some minors, were located in Southern California, Maryland, Ireland, Canada, Russia and Moldova. The plot lasted from early 2012 until June 2013. Cassidy Wolf was the most famous, given her high profile, but Abrahams threatened to post the illegally obtained photos of at least 12 others as well. If his targets did not send him more nude images or strip for him on camera, he said he would out them. At least two complied with his demands. “I hacked [the] girls’ computers and, using webcams, took photos of them when they weren’t aware,” Abrahams said in court, admitting his misdeeds. Jared James Abrahams knew some of his victims, including Wolf, a high school classmate. She exposed the “sextortion” plot earlier this year. Wolf, who was crowned in August, went public when she received an e-mail containing nude pics of her that were taken by the camera on her laptop. “Here’s what’s going to happen!” the e-mailer wrote. “Either you do one of the things listed below or I upload these pics and a lot more … on all your accounts.” “Your dream of being a model will be transformed into a pornstar,” he threatened. The FBI raided Abrahams’ home in June and arrested him in September. Wolf tweeted, “Happy to know that this nightmare is coming to an end.”
