The quake struck at 18:03 p.m. Jakarta time (1103 GMT) with the epicenter at 163 km northwest Ambon, the capital city of Maluku province, and with the depth at 10 km under sea bed, an official of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency told Xinhua. A shallow undersea quake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale jolted eastern parts of Indonesia on Tuesday, but no tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate report of damage and casualties, officials said.
