Reign aired the most controversial scene on network television last week, leaving many to wonder how the rape storyline would be followed up on Reign Season 2 Episode 10 . How would the series both respect Mary’s traumatic experience … while also providing storyline fodder across the board on a winter finale meant to leave viewers hanging off a cliff in anticipation of the show’s 2015 return? She has been tremendous all season long, capping that run with her best performance to date last night. Consider: Mary’s eyes widening as Louis stepped towards her, symbolic her new instinct to fear. Then, of course, there was the anger and fury and pain when Mary douses her rapist in fire.. only for her to then realize this suffering did not ease her own. Great stuff. Emotional stuff. In all of these ways, Reign ensured that Mary’s experience was taken very seriously. As for Francis? He took another step toward becoming his father this week. We saw him lean down towards a shackled Narcisse, lock eyes with him and tell imprisoned noble that a single wrong move will get him “slaughtered in the dead of night.” Could anyone have imagined these words of actions coming from the Francis of Reign Season 1 ? We were left mostly confused about Catherine de Medici, however, and we didn’t receive an answer about whether or not Claude is dead. (So we’re gonna assume Claude is not dead.) So there’s something to look forward to when Reign returns on January 22.
