An upcoming episode of National Geographic’s Taboo series features the latest body modification trend, one that’s already sweeping Japan and beyond: Bagel heads. It’s what it sounds like. The long and short of it: A somehow willing recipient gets a bagel-shaped knot on his or her forehead by injecting saline solution into the skin, which causes it to swell. After reaching maximum puffiness, the injector uses his thumb to create an indention – kind of like a thumb-print cookie – for the bagel effect. You may vomit on cue.
