I Am Cait Season 1 Episode 6 aired Sunday, and this week, Caitlyn Jenner fans learned a lot more about her friend and confidant, Candis Cayne. For weeks, we’ve heard talk of Caitlyn Jenner and Candis Cayne dating. While that talk is, by all accounts, false, we do sort of get it now. She’s great. And their relationship is outstanding. More than anyone, the transgender actress has been Caitlyn’s rock throughout her transition, and I Am Cait Season 1 Episode 6 was no different. She’s supporting and loving Cait for exactly who she is, but like any real friend, is also not afraid to ask the tough questions or push her a bit as well. Going out of one’s comfort zone can mean deep soul searching introspectively, or it can just mean getting out and experiencing trans nightlife . Or discussing dating in the trans community. The conversation of sexual identity and wondering is Caitlyn Jenner gay is a tough one. Candis is determined not to put any labels on such things. Candis believes Caitlyn is attracted to women but … “your sexuality and your gender are two completely different things … and it’s no one’s business.” Cayne also reveals that she’s a survivor of domestic violence, and sometimes severe domestic violence. Currently, she’s single … and giving up? “I just don’t think it’s ever going to happen in the love department,” she laments, and while we doubt that’s true, herein lies what makes her great: Candis is a human being with real struggles we can relate to even if we don’t know what it’s like to be trans, and her attitude is earnest and uplifting. Now it’s Caitlyn’s turn to lift up her friend, though, and she invites her Cait to a camp designed for trans youth. Turns out to be the perfect move. The camp offers an escape for a world that looks at them as outsiders, but just as significantly, lets them focus on being them and just have fun. “Being around friends is really nice when you haven’t been around friends for most of your life,” one of the campers says in a touching moment.
