Future Fulfills Demand With Streetz Calling Mixtape

‘If the streets callin’, I’m answering on the first ring,’ Future tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Steven Roberts Future Photo: MTV News Main Pick Headliner : Future Representing : Atlanta Mixtape : Streetz Calling Real Spit : These days the demand for Future is pretty high. Just when it seemed folks were getting caught up with his June tape True Story , the “Tony Montana” rapper hooked up with Gucci Mane to drop Free Bricks in July and then returned again in September with Streetz Calling . The rookie may be moving at an accelerated pace, but if you let Future tell it, he doesn’t have much of a choice. “The reason I named the mixtape Streetz Calling is because I had did so many mixtapes and I felt like everybody always say, ‘Future, when you gonna drop a new mixtape? You need to drop another one, you need to drop another one,’ ” he told Mixtape Daily. After building a buzz with his 2010 appearance on YC’s hit single “Racks” and a pair of tapes ( 1000 and Dirty Sprite ), Future now stands as one of rap’s top prospects. It’s a position that he fully embraces on the opening track of Streetz Calling . “Made Myself a Boss” is a self-assuring tale of the rapper’s come-up. The Sonny Digital-produced “Same Damn Time” is just as cocky, as it finds Future bragging on his multi-tasking abilities, while “If You Knew What It Took” is a little more heartfelt. “I’m standing in the middle of the rain, trying wash out this pain,” he sings of his problems on the track’s first verse. Gucci Mane lends some bars on “The Way It Go,” and Duct Tape Entertainment’s Trouble helps out on “E,” but for the most part Future holds his own. With his latest, the “Magic” MC is simply supplying the demand. “I felt like this mixtape, the streets callin’ me to do it,” he said. “If the streets callin’, I’m answering on the first ring.” Joints to Check For

Future Declares His Debut Album ‘Timeless’

‘ Pluto is like I’m bridging the gap from my first mixtape to my last mixtape so all the fans can just buy into me,’ ATL rapper tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman Future Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Future is hot at the moment, but the Atlanta rap newcomer is looking beyond the present as he prepares his debut, Pluto, on Epic Label Group . “The album is timeless. They might not get it the first time they listen to it. That’s why it’s called Pluto — it’s so far out of here, it’s out the box,” he told Mixtape Daily on the black carpet for the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards, which air Tuesday. “So the first time you listen to it, the second time you might not get it, a year later you might have to go back and listen to it and be like, ‘Damn.’ You’ll finally get it.” The Zone 6 representative has been on a tear with his string of street-bred mixtapes. The Astronaut Kid established his sound on 1000, Dirty Sprite and True Story. His recently released Streetz Calling tape is filled with bangers like “Made Myself a Boss,” the codeine-inspired “Easter Pink” and the chest-pounding “Name Hold Weight,” but right now, his Drake-assisted remix of “Tony Montana” is one of rap’s hottest tracks. ” Pluto is like I’m bridging the gap from my first mixtape to my last mixtape so all the fans can just buy into me, the whole movement,” he said. “They’ll see the growth, they’ll understand it when they listen to it.” “Magic” is another banger from the True Story tape that has the hip-hop world in a frenzy. Upon his release from prison, T.I. quickly hopped on a remix of “Magic,” giving Future a major co-sign. “It’s always a good thing when people stamp you and say, ‘Hey, I salute you on your hard work, ’cause all the hard work payin’ off,’ ” Future said. “So when that happens, it’s always a plus, make you wanna go back in.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Future Says Streetz Calling Will Be His Last Mixtape

Up-and-coming rapper says debut album is on the way, in Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Steven Roberts Future Photo: MTV News Mixtape Daily Main Pick Artist : Future Representing : Atlanta Mixtape : Streetz Calling Real Spit : There’s no question that when it comes to rap, Future is among the hottest up-and-comers. So fans of the Atlanta rapper’s mixtapes may be sad to learn that his recently released Streetz Calling will be his last solo tape. Not to worry, though, an album is on the way. “My mixtape, which will probably be my last solo mixtape, is 9/11: Streetz Calling, ” said Future, who recently announced his deal with L.A. Reid on Epic Label Group. ” 9/11: Streetz Calling with DJ Drama is supposed to be my last mixtape before I put my album out. My album is gonna be [titled] Pluto. ” Though he originally planned to release his mixtape on 9/11, Future had to instead drop Streetz Calling on Friday after the tape began to leak early. Tracks like “Made Myself a Boss,” the codeine-inspired “Easter Pink” and the chest-pounding “Name Hold Weight” exemplify Future’s penchant for spitting catchy hooks and relatable rhymes. The 2011 MTV Jams’ Fab Five inductee has earned many fans; even some of the game’s top rappers recognize his pedigree. “I wasn’t even ready for Drake to get on it, but when he called I was like, man, I was acceptin’ it with open arms,” Future said about Drizzy’s contribution to his “Tony Montana (Remix).” “He was just so far from where I’m at now, he’s so far [from] me, so for him to reach back down like, ‘Hey I want to get on your song,’ it was big on him. It just showed that he’s not out of the loop and I was in the loop.” Though Drake doesn’t actually appear on Streetz Calling, Future did manage to round up Gucci Mane and his A1/Free Bandz partner Rocko on a tape otherwise navigated by Future himself.
