Sadly, the number of unexpected sequels that did nothing more than tarnish the reputation of their predecessor far outweighs the number that worked. Sequels are almost always a step down from the first film but when that first film is an unexpected hit, that’s a reaction that’s nearly impossible to recreate. You can’t surprise an audience twice
