Diana Nyad Ends Bid to Swim Really, Really Far

Diana Nyad gave it an incredible shot, but the 62-year old endurance swimmer has been forced to get out of the water. Nyad was attempting to swim from Cuba to Florida, a 102-mile distance she first tried to navigate in 1978 and then again in August of this year. Diana Nyad News Report The motivational speaker’s latest effort was her best, at least, as Nyad made it about two-thirds of the way before being pulled at around 11 a.m. yesterday due to strong currents and jellyfish stings. Nyad says she grew motivated to try the Havana-to-Key-West route again after turning 60 because she wanted to feel young again. It’s an admirable idea, but she may wanna find a safer hobby.
