Legendary New York Giants wide receiver and longtime sports journalist Frank Gifford has passed away at the age of 84. His family broke the news with a statement issued this morning: ” It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and friend, Frank Gifford. Frank died suddenly this beautiful Sunday morning of natural causes at his Connecticut home. “We rejoice in the extraordinary life he was privileged to live, and we feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an amazing human being. We ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time and we thank you for your prayers .” Gifford played for the Giants for his entire 12-year NFL career. He was selected for the Pro Bowl eight times, and was named NFL MVP in 1956. That same year, he led his team to an NFL championship. After he retired, Gifford became a respected play-by-play announcer and commentator. He served as one of the voices of Monday Night Football from 1971 to 1997. In 1986, he married beloved television personality Kathie Lee Gifford.
