Excuse us if we call this video “the most disgusting thing we’ve seen all year.” Or hey – maybe all decade. PETA released an an anti-dairy meat ad – as per normal – but this time, they took it too far, and cast women reading lines as if they’d been raped. Spoiler? They weren’t. PETA’s New Video is Simple Rape-Shaming In the video, women were featured talking about rape . They detailed the horror and feelings that go along with sexual assault, and some of them even cry. But the sick thing is, the video isn’t actually about human rape – it’s about “forced” insemination of dairy animals “requiring” them to reproduce when, who knows, maybe that one cow wants to be celibate. The women said things like, “One man held me down, while another man touched me.” Another woman said, “I was so scared. I didn’t know what I had done wrong.” The video continued, but the conclusion was the icing on the vegan, cruelty-free cake. After the women finished their bizarre, rape-mocking tirade, PETA wrote, “Every year, billions of animals are born into the meat, egg and dairy industries.” “Almost all of them are a result of forcible artificial insemination. Almost all of them are a result of rape. Don’t participate, go vegan.” Are you picking your jaw up from the floor yet? Because if you aren’t, you had better get a head start on it. Some errant cow might saunter through wearing her feminist badge and passing out free birth control. Naturally, PETA caught tons of flak from all over the internet. One Twitter user wrote, “No survivor of sexual assault should have to go through their trauma being compared to an animal’s when we’ve already been dehumanized.” Another penned, “This is awful, and insensitive. You continue to spit in the faces of marginalized and victimized groups to push your message.” Even more came forward (surprise, surprise). One user said, “Apparently PETA’s new ad campaign is ‘if we trigger rape & sexual assault victims , maybe they’ll become vegans!” PETA however, didn’t back down. They responded to one of the many tweets with this gem, “Acknowledging that animals are sexually abused for meat & dairy doesn’t take away from seriousness of sexual abuse of humans.” OH OKAY. Later, the PETA president released an official statement, which read, “It is rape when someone sticks their hand into a vagina or rectum without permission.” “Every decent person abhors and denounces sexual abuse of women but we cannot blithely accept the sexual abuse of other females who happen not to be human but have the same vulnerability to pain.” Good. GRIEF.
