Japan has not restricted its workers to have a leave after a child birth. Nevertheless, they were reluctant in doing so. In the Japanese law, it allows either parent to have up to a year off whenever there is a childbirth in the family. Hironobu Narisawa, a district mayor in Tokyo has been in the headlines of Japanese Newspapers for setting an example to everyone and having a paternal leave. He said he is aiming to change attitudes. For the record, no other local government leader, male or female, has taken time off after the birth of a child. Nationwide, just one in 100 fathers takes any paternity leave.
