Michigan Dept. Of Corrections Ex Inkster Cop William Melendez Get Sentence Overturned In Appeals Court An ex-cop who beat motorist Floyd Dent in the head and choked him during a traffic stop was convicted back in November, but this week an appeals court has overturned his sentence. Originally, William Melendez was serving 13 months to 10 years for beating Dent. The appeals court ruled this week that Melendez can now serve half of his sentence in a boot camp facility where he will train military style for 90 days then move into a halfway house. According to The Root , after 13 months, he is eligible for parole. Talk about adding insult to injury! Dent said he’s suffered memory loss from the incident and has fear for his life.
