Justin Bieber visited the “Today” on Friday morning for a free concert outside NBC studios in New York’s Rockefeller Plaza, where the teen sensation played a mini-concert featuring five of his most popular songs. The epidemic wasn’t confined to kids: As the show’s Al Roker pointed out, it wasn’t even above the law. “One question,” Roker asked a policeman. “Sergeant, do you have Bieber fever?” “Yes,” the officer answered with a smirk. “It’s official: The NYPD has Bieber fever,” Roker said. An army of Bieber fans from all over the country filled up the plaza with high-pitched voices and brightly-colored posters. “This may be the biggest crowd we’ve had for days, the show’s Matt Lauer said, to which Meredith Vierra replied, “It reminds me of Paul — Paul McCartney. So, I get it.” The broadcast was taken over by Bieber fever, with almost every segment, from the weather to interviews with celebrities, being “Bieberized.” Roker’s forecast could barely be heard above the fans’ screams, and his signature sign-off was tweaked to say, “Here’s what’s happening in your neck of the Bieberwoods!” “Get Him to the Greek” star Jonah Hill was there to promote the film, and his interview was also obscured by the teen screams. “I have Bieber fever all over my body right now,” Hill joked. Bieber rushed down from his pre-performance rehearsal and interrupted the interview to give Hill a fist-pound for his comments. Before his performance, Bieber told Lauer how much his life has changed since becoming famous. “It’s pretty crazy that now I go out and, you know, I’m always asked for autographs and stuff, but that’s kind of what I signed up for,” Bieber said. He added that his career goal is longevity. “I want to, you know, be an artist that doesn’t just come out with one song and you know, then they’re done,” Bieber said. As he performed in the humid morning air, Bieber bounced around with his background dancers through “Baby” and “One Time” and others without missing a beat, with some of his dance moves seemingly inspired by mentor Usher — he chest pumped and moon-walked across the stage. After the performance, Bieber stuck around to sign some autographs, but not before talking about his upcoming tour. “It starts in like a couple of weeks, so I’m really excited,” he said. “There’s going to be a lot of lights and a lot of, like, magic stuff, which is going to be cool.” What did you think of Justin Bieber’s appearance on the “Today” show?
