‘We always pick the right songs to do together,’ the Atlanta MC says of ‘Ride’ and other collabos. By Jayson Rodriguez, with additional reporting by Matt Elias Ludacris Photo: MTV News The formula is simple enough: Ludacris plus Ciara on the same track equals a hit. “Man, we always pick the right songs to do together,” Luda told MTV News over the weekend in Los Angeles, where he performed at KIIS-FM’s annual Wango Tango festival. “She always gives me the right songs; I always give her the right songs. We were actually just talking about that today. So I’m just glad that we have that many collaborations under our belts … we’ll continue to make history.” The two Atlanta residents recently reconnected on Ciara’s latest single, the steamy “Ride,” which is the first offering from her forthcoming album, tentatively titled Basic Instinct. The project is being helmed by The-Dream and Christopher “Tricky” Stewart, who oversaw her last effort, 2009’s Fantasy Ride. Last year, Ciara explained to MTV News how she sought out Stewart, whom she’d known for a long time prior to their collaborating. “I learned a lot from him, but one thing I never did was work with him,” she said. “So now, on this record, before I started the process, I said, ‘I always wanted to work with him but never got around to him.’ And it was gonna happen this time. Right away, I set up a meeting. I sat down with Tricky and his manager, and we all talked about working, and I was so excited about it. It’s been something I had been really, really wanting to do.” At press time, Ciara’s Basic Instinct had yet to be assigned a release date. But in another interview with us, the singer promised her next effort would be “hot,” which “Ride” and its Diane Martel-directed video certainly are. “Well, I have to tell you the new record is going to be pretty hot,” she laughed. “No, it’s gonna be fun. I’m going to have a good time. I don’t want to say too much about it, but I’m very proud of what’s happening right now. I’m working hard. I want to make sure I give my fans what they want, and I want to give them more. So I’m just taking my time and just trying to create something that just really feels good to the masses.” What’s your favorite Ciara and Ludacris collabo? Tell us in the comments!
