Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Culture War Update: Director Speaks Out, Title Cut in Half

After begging and pleading with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan community to please, please not engage in preemptive flame warfare over the rumors and vagaries surrounding the reboot of their beloved franchise, I now recognize the futility of my attempts at diplomacy. This comes after the film’s attached director Jonathan Liebesman — also of this week’s Wrath of the Titans and last year’s eminently regarded ( ahem ) Battle: Los Angeles — only complicated matters with his comments about the kerfuffle. And then there’s the movie’s reported name change. Liebesman toed the company line at last weekend’s Titans junket, urging TMNT devotees to calm down about producer Michael Bay’s proposed alien-turtle-ooze influence — which apparently “comes straight from the series.” I can’t believe I just wrote that, or this: “Look, it’s so funny — if everyone was such a die-hard fan, they would know that the TCRI canisters where the ooze comes from. That is alien ooze. Now I’m not saying what Michael said is exactly what the movie is, because we’re sitting in a room now figuring everything out. So we don’t know, but we are like Michael said: we’re expanding it, and the expansion will be true to the mythology. I promise you: fans will love it.” Even if those fans are to take Liebesman at his word, there’s also this reported nugget that no doubt have them soiling their Donatello jammies: Bleeding Cool has verified that the working title of the upcoming Paramount-Nickelodeon Turtle movie from producer Michael Bay and director Jonathan Libesman is going by the working title of Ninja Turtles . We know all too well where the “Mutant” bit went, but now it seems we’re also losing “Teenage.” We haven’t been able to get a definite statement as to why this title change is occurring, and our sources are not 100% clear on whether or not the Turtles will indeed be adolescents. One of our sources has said: “It seems to be driven by marketing. Think of John Carter and how Disney wouldn’t allow for a title with either ‘Princess’ or ‘Mars.'” Whatever. See you at the refugee camp! I hope they have wi-fi. [ Collider , Bleeding Cool via AICN ] Follow S.T. VanAirsdale on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

‘Breaking Dawn’ DVD Sells 3.2 Million In Two Days

‘Part 1’ of ‘Twilight’ finale also racks up 50,000 downloads and 80,000 video-on-demand transactions. By Jocelyn Vena Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1” DVD is, unsurprisingly, flying off the shelves. After the film was released to disc at midnight Saturday morning, it reportedly sold 3.2 million discs over the course of two days. But, that’s not all: The flick also snagged 50,000 downloads and 80,000 video-on-demand transactions during the two-day period when the sales were tracked, according to The Hollywood Reporter . The numbers make “Breaking Dawn” the top-selling release of the year. It bows at #1 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert overall disc sales chart, followed by “Lady and the Tramp” and “A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas.” Now that it can be played on repeat, Twihards are certain to be memorizing every sweet and saucy moment of “Part 1,” before the final installment hits theaters this November. A scene from the Bill Condon-directed “Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” played at a special Target in-store event just before “Part 1” dropped. Fans were treated to five minutes of footage , including behind-the-scenes shots of “Twilight” hunks Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner preparing for battle in the woods. The exclusive scene followed Bella as she finds a note in a book with instructions from Alice, explaining what to do to get new passports. The clip then cut to an emotional conversation between Edward and Bella, who share a juicy kiss. But, perhaps the scene fans most wanted to sink their teeth into was the first shot of vampire Bella, which included those famous red eyes and special-effects-aided speed. Eminem Overtakes Lady Gaga As Facebook’s Most ‘Liked’ Living Artist

He could soon surpass the late Michael Jackson as the site’s overall most liked. By James Montgomery Eminem Photo: John Shearer/ WireImage By his own admission, Eminem “doesn’t know how to work a computer” , but that hasn’t stopped him from overtaking Lady Gaga as the most “liked” living artist on Facebook. Earlier this week, Em eclipsed Gaga to claim the title of Facebook’s most-liked, as he currently counts more than 28,975,000 fans to LG’s 28,926,000, according to Billboard . Eminem is currently averaging more than 500,000 Facebook “likes” a day, and could soon surpass none other than Michael Jackson to become the site’s overall most-liked artist, according to Famecount , a site that tallies the “top social network stars worldwide.” The late King of Pop currently has more than 29,183,000 Facebook fans, giving him a slight edge over the hard-charging Em. Of course, when it comes to overall social influence, Eminem still trails both Gaga and Justin Bieber in total YouTube views — though he recently became the third artist to crack the 1-billion-view mark — and when it comes to total Twitter followers, his 3 million are barely enough to crack Famecount’s top 20 musicians: Gaga is #1, followed by the likes of Bieber, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Rihanna and, uh, Jessica Simpson. Then again, all signs seem to point to Eminem’s social media profile only increasing. He shows up in Dr. Dre’s much-anticipated “I Need a Doctor” video , which premiered on Thursday, and just last week, he grabbed headlines when on-set photos from his upcoming “Space Bound” video — featuring porn star Sasha Grey — began making the rounds … and just in case you were wondering, Grey has more than 110,000 Twitter followers of her own. New ‘Never Say Never’ Clip Shows Justin Bieber Singing With Fan

The ‘Director’s Fan Cut’ teaser captures the teen sensation performing an acoustic version of ‘Baby’ with a young girl. By Eric Ditzian Justin Bieber in the new “Never Say Never” clip Photo: Paramount Earlier this week, “Never Say Never” director Jon Chu promised MTV News that his new “Director’s Fan Cut” of Justin Bieber’s 3-D flick would deliver 40 minutes of fresh footage, including different songs (such as “Favorite Girl”), some more shirtless shots of the teen singer (“Maybe some abs!”) and extra scenes of him interacting with fans. video platform video management video solutions video player With the recut movie hitting theaters on Friday (February 25), Paramount Pictures has released a clip showing just that: the Biebs hanging out with some of his young fanatical followers. The 71-second promo shows Bieber — pre-haircut, of course — at an intimate gathering in Phoenix. While the pop star gives an acoustic performance on a small stage, his fans beg him to play “Baby,” but he jokes, “I don’t know that song.” He then declares to a very young fan, “I’ll only sing ‘Baby’ if you come up here and sing it with me.” Cue the cuteness. The girl sits on his lap and together they belt out the hit single. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Bieber show off an easy, breezy way with his youngest fans. Last year, he popped up on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to surprise a 3-year-old Belieber named Cody who’d become an Internet sensation after her sister posted a video of her crying over the teen heartthrob on YouTube. As he tweeted later, “Makin faces with Cody!” The re-released “Never Say Never” represents an effort both to goose box-office receipts three weeks after the film’s initial opening and to feed the Beliebers’ seemingly insatiable appetite for anything and everything connected to the star. “We originally had a two-and-a-half-hour version of the movie, which we obviously couldn’t release,” Chu explained to us. “So we started to think about putting stuff back in that didn’t have to do with our story but that we knew people would love.” Are you planning to go see the “Director’s Fan Cut” of “Never Say Never”?
