50 Cent Clears Up Twitter Label Drama

Fif also reveals that he is on Dr. Dre’s next single, ‘The Psycho.’ By Rob Markman 50 Cent Photo: Michael Tran/ FilmMagic 50 Cent went into renegade mode Thursday, blasting his label on Twitter and releasing his new single “Outlaw” independently of Interscope. Don’t get it twisted, however: The G-Unit General isn’t just acting off of emotion. This is all part of his plan to light a fire under the label in preparation of his fifth, yet-untitled album. (50 confirmed to MTV News that this is not the Black Magic album he had announced in 2010.) On April 18, Fif announced via Twitter that he was going to be dropping a single from his new album, but never did. When MTV News caught up with him a few days later on the L.A. set of Nicole Scherzinger’s “Right There” video, 50 backtracked , saying that instead, he opted to work in conjunction with Interscope on the release. “So I had the record I was ready to launch, and we sat down and everybody talked,” Fif told MTV News in an interview Friday (June 17). “What happens is, there are a lot of people involved in my actual launch, because its three parties; it’s Shady, then you got Aftermath, then you got Interscope, and then you got me on my end. So by the time we got to go sit down with [Interscope chairman] Jimmy [Iovine], we talked a little bit, and then I ended up having to go see Dre, because we had the issue, the confusion about the Twitter stuff.” The “Twitter stuff” the Southside Jamaica, Queens, rapper is referencing is when he charged on the social-networking site that Dre and Jimmy Iovine were “mad” because Fif announced that he was developing his own brand of high-end head headphones to rival the Good Doctor’s Beats by Dre. “We sat down, we cleared that up, me and Dre, and then we said, ‘Let’s just get back to the music and do what we do,’ ” Curtis said before revealing his and Dre’s next move. “Immediately after, we wrote a song together called ‘The Psycho’; it’s Dre’s next single.” After making peace with his partners, it was 50’s intention to release his own single with his label’s support and have a record that would impact radio so he could perform at Hot 97’s annual Summer Jam concert at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. There was no single and, subsequently, no 50 Cent at the show, which took place June 5. “Why would I be going to Summer Jam to perform a bunch of feature songs?” the rapper asked rhetorically. “That’s not for me. I rather not be there than to go through that.” Things took a turn Thursday when the MC tweeted: “Ok I tried to be cool with my record company. I went to the meeting talk to everyone and sh– feels like there moving in slow motion,” adding that he wouldn’t drop an album in 2011 unless Interscope got “on the same page.” Then he premiered his new song “Outlaw” later that evening in an effort to cause excitement for his upcoming LP, which will be his last on Interscope. Though he is visibly concerned about how the rollout of his album is being handled, Fif wants to be clear about where he places the blame. “It’s not necessarily Dre or Jimmy; it’s more the guys that they pass the responsibilities on to. It takes longer for people, because they’ll be like, ‘OK, we’re gonna do this and we’re gonna do that,’ and the building will start having those conversations, but they’re not actually moving at that point.” What do you think of 50 Cent’s label drama? Maino, N.O.R.E. Laugh Over Summer Jam Fly Incident

N.O.R.E. tells Mixtape Daily about being interrupted by a fly while performing ‘Banned From TV’ with D-Block in 2008. By Rob Markman, with reporting Ade Mangum Maino Photo: MTV News Celebrity Favorites: Maino Hot 97’s Summer Jam has provided the tri-state area with a number of memorable moments. Who could forget when Jay-Z brought out Michael Jackson, or when he clowned Prodigy by putting an embarrassing picture of the Mobb Deep rapper on the Giants Stadium screen? 50 Cent mocked R. Kelly onstage in 2004, and Swizz Beatz and Kanye West had an old-fashioned sound clash in 2007. For Brooklyn rapper Maino , his favorite Summer Jam moment took place backstage, away from the crowd’s gaze. While the “Hi Hater” rapper was small on the specifics, he told Mixtape Daily that it involved rapper N.O.R.E. , an insect and vomit. “I saw N.O.R.E. throw up. He said, ‘Yo, a fly went in my mouth,’ ” Maino recalled before laughing uncontrollably about the 2008 incident. “We were backstage and they was doin’ ‘Banned From TV,’ and this was the first year that I was there. I had just got off the stage with Alicia Keys, and he came out with D-Block and he did ‘Banned From TV.’ It was crazy.” N.O.R.E. confirmed the story: “Yeah, I threw up, yo. A fly flew in my mouth. This was my first Summer Jam in four or five years, so I’m rhyming. As I’m rhyming a f—ing fly goes in my throat.” Appearing as a guest on D-Block’s set, N.O.R.E. came out to perform his classic posse cut “Banned From TV.” As the Queens rapper recited his verse, he swallowed the insect, causing him to vomit as soon as he got backstage. “I was fiendin’ so much for the look, I just kept going,” he recalled. “Then I got off the stage and I threw up.” N.O.R.E., who is currently on a mission to lose weight, said that if he had been in better shape, he might have been able to avoid the fly: “I’m not saying that I threw up because I was big, I threw up because a fly went in my mouth, but my recovery time wasn’t that quick.” No matter the reason, fans can file this one under “Funny, but true”: “He is absolutely telling the truth,” N.O.R.E. said. “Maino is not lying.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .

50 Cent Explains G-Unit’s LED-Lit Outfits At Jay-Z/Eminem Show

‘Michael Jackson used to do that back in the day,’ 50 says. By Shaheem Reid 50 Cent Photo: MTV News Welcome back to Tri-State Stadium Status 50 Cent . The leader of the G-Unit hasn’t been seen in a major stadium in his hometown area since Hot 97’s 2004 Summer Jam at Giants Stadium , where he was involved in the infamous chair-throwing incident with some rivals from Queens. For years, fans have missed Fif and the Unit at the annual mega-concert. Well, last night, the Unit returned in their entirety during Eminem and Jay-Z’s Home and Home concert at Yankee Stadium . 50 Cent , Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo appeared onstage together during the first of two stadium shows on two consecutive nights. Although later in the night, Drake and Jay-Z performed “Light Up,” it was the collective from Queens who literally lit up onstage, not just with “I Get Money,” “In Da Club” and “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” but with their illuminated clothes. “It’s at ease,” 50 said about coming out as Eminem’s special guest. The Unit also appeared at Jay and Shady’s shows in Detroit at Comerica Park. “I’m at ease. Before it’s time for us to go onstage, you’re watching a cool 35 minutes of the building being torn apart. You come out, the pressure is not there. The excitement of you coming out in the middle of that, you see the audience. You see the whole thing changes. I knew what kind of event it was. I made my vocations. I had them put lights on us and do different things you probably would only see … the last time I seen the LED lights was Chris Brown’s performance. [We perform in] different styles of clothes. It’s not like the suits he had on. Michael Jackson used to do that back in the day. So I just made it more hip-hop and brought that to the actual shows.” “It was crazy, man,” Tony Yayo said about his crew’s outfits. “Especially when the lights go off. LED lights on the jackets.” “It’s fun,” 50 chimed back in. “I’mma start doing different things performance-wise. Come outside of the box. Do different things that look like a show. Ninety percent of the time you’re watching hip-hop, you see a guy sings a song where … you can see him in that same outfit another day onstage. We can dress it up from time to time and do different things.” While Jay-Z brought out Drake, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Beyonc
