To FREEDOM: Nicki Minaj Is Reportedly Demanding Tracy Chapman Throw Out Lawsuit Over Uncleared Sample

Source: Stephane Cardinale – Corbis / Getty Nicki Minaj Demands Tracy Chapman Throw Out Lawsuit Nicki Minaj is trying to bring her beef with folk singer Tracy Chapman to an end. According to reports from The Blast , Minaj is demanding that the judge throw out Chapman’s lawsuit against her. The rapper is claiming that she did absolutely nothing wrong and does not owe the singer any damages. If you’ll recall, this lawsuit comes following Chapman filed a case against the Queens native for leaking the track “Sorry,” which features an uncleared sample of Chapman’s song “Baby Can I Hold You.” Nicki was very vocal about wanting the song–which features her former love interest Nas–to be on her album Queen , but Chapman continually refused to clear it. Minaj loved that specific record so much that she was considering pushing the entire album back in hopes of coming to some sort of agreement with Chapman–but that never ended up happening. The two parties weren’t able to come to an agreement, which left the record on the cutting room floor–that is, until the song “somehow” got into the hands of Funkmaster Flex, who premiered it without permission or clearance from Chapman. That is what led to Tracy’s lawyers to hit Nicki Minaj with a lawsuit that alleges she’s the one at fault for the radio leak. Tracy Chapman is seeking unspecified damages and an injunction prohibiting Minaj from using her music in the future. Nicki, on the other hand, is arguing that the song was fair use and alleges that Chapman doesn’t even own the copyrights to the sample. She stands firm in her allegations that this case has no merit and is demanding that the entire lawsuit be thrown out.

2019 Oscars Will Have No Host After Kevin Hart Scandal

Source: Ethan Miller / Getty Well, that’s one way to handle it. I guess! Check this out! Via | HotNewHipHop The 2019 Academy Awards will make history. The debacle surrounding Kevin Hart and the 2019 Oscars reached a peak last week when Ellen DeGeneres seemingly  made a few calls for the Academy Awards to take back the comedian  as their host. He had stepped down after old homophobic tweets resurfaced and after thinking his decision over, Hart decided that resigning from the position was the  right choice . He seems fed up of even bringing up the tweets and he surely would have had to address the scandal during his gig so he would rather just step down. READ MORE

A Black Man Has Been Found Dead Inside The Home Of Democratic Donor Ed Buck For The Second Time Since 2017

Second Black Man Dies At Prominent Political Donor’s Home This one has the makings of a Law & Order: SVU episode written all over it… A Black man has died of an alleged drug overdose inside the Hollywood apartment of Ed Buck, a wealthy and prominent donor to the Democratic party, for the second time within the last 18 months. The as-yet-unidentified man has only been described as a Black man in his 50’s according to KTLA , and at this time is believed to have passed due to a drug overdose. The circumstances of his death possibly signify a disturbing and dangerous habit on the part of Buck, one which has seemingly been costing Black men their lives for the sake of his own pleasure and entertainment. The prior death at his home, that of 26-year-old Gemmel Moore, was also the result of an overdose of methamphetamines that may have been ingested at Buck’s home. Family and friends of Moore claim that he was working as an escort when he visited Buck’s home back in July 2017. Moore’s mother Latisha Nixon claims that she has spoken to other escorts since her son’s death and has discovered that Buck frequently invites young gay Black men to his home and has them ingest near-lethal amounts of narcotics for his own enjoyment. “Ed Buck has been soliciting young gay black men. He has them wear these long white ‘under-johns.’ He takes pictures of them. He hits them up with meth. The more meth that they smoke and inject, the more money that he gives them.” Moore’s death was ultimately ruled accidental and Buck has not been named a suspect in the latest drug-overdose death at his home, as his attorneys claim the man in question was already in a drug-induced state when he arrived at Buck’s home. SMH. We wonder how many more Black men have to die for this man’s alleged sick enjoyment before law enforcement decides to get involved? Kevork Djansezian/Getty/KTLA

Just yesterday, I said I can’t stand when Bella Thorne talks and here I found a video of her doing that. I believe she is orating her song Pussy Mine that she released not long ago. How edgy! Anyway, it’s not funny, the song sucks and her friend is nothing to write home about. Bella can do better.

Jordan Peele’s “Us” Trailer Has Triggered A Ton Of Think Pieces

Read the original here:

Source: Paras Griffin / Getty On Christmas day, Jordan Peele unveiled the trailer for “Us”, the upcoming psychological horror film starring former Black Panther co-stars Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke. The film is about a husband and wife, Gabe and Adelaide Wilson, who take their children to their beach house in the Bay Area on a family vacation. Unfortunately, things turn spooky fast when the family is approached by their psychotic doppelgängers who attempt to kill them. The trailer, which is about two and a half minutes long, leaves a lot to the imagination but one thing is for certain, when the film hits theaters in March, everyone will be there to see it. Here we go. #WatchYourself #UsMovie @UsMovie pic.twitter.com/rWev0UjgEv — Jordan Peele (@JordanPeele) December 25, 2018 While the trailer leaves a lot to interpretation, Jordan Peele tells EW what the film is essentially about. “I think the main idea that went into writing this film is that we’re our own worst enemy, and that idea created this monster, The Tethered. I wanted to forge this new mythology that explored our duality and the duality of the characters.” The best part of the trailer has to be the use of the iconic Bay Area hip hop classic “I Got 5 On It” by Luniz. For the first time ever, “I Got 5 On It” has been seen as eerie and creepy. It’s been used in a way no one has ever thought to use the song before. In literally no time at all, social media has already broken down the “Us” trailer and its use of “I Got 5 On It”. Twitter user Greg Carr (@AfricanaCarr) said of the song’s usage in the trailer: “ Not just a song. Or now a movie anthem. A diaspora expression that speaks to a basic African principle. Nobody rides for free. It ain’t about what you got “five on” It’s about you putting your resources in on whatever we fixing to do. “Us” indeed. Word. #IGotFiveOnIt #UsMovie “ Jordan Peele spoke on using the song for the trailer and as you can imagine, in contrast, it had nothing to do with African proverbs. In fact, Peele says, “That song, it came pretty simple, I’m making a movie in Northern California, that’s a bay area hip-hop classic and I wanted to explore this very relatable journey of being a parent [and] maybe some of the songs you listened to back in the day aren’t appropriate for your kids. So that was one level, and another part was, I love songs that have a great feeling but also have a haunting element to them and I feel like the beat in that song has this inherent cryptic energy, almost reminiscent of the Nightmare on Elm Street soundtrack. So those were the ideas that that song hit the bullseye on for me, and also, it’s just a dope track.” Besides the use of the Oakland classic, other fan theories have popped up online. ‘Forever My Lady’: One Of The Most Iconic R&B Slow Jams Was Written For Kim Porter

View original post here:

A little-known fact about Kim Porter was reverberating across social media in the hours after the sudden death of the model, actress and doting mother was announced Thursday afternoon. One of the most iconic ’90s R&B jams was reportedly not only written with her in mind, but it was written by an iconic R&B singer in his own right. “Forever My Lady,” a chart-topping single released from Jodeci’s smash, multi-platinum debut album of the same name, was written by singer Al B. Sure!, who fathered a child with Porter in June of 1991. Less than a month later, Jodeci released their album and put out their signature single two months later. Al B Sure! reportedly wrote the song about Porter and dedicated it to their son, Quincy. Al B. Sure discussed his role in creating the song during an episode of “Unsung” on TVOne.
