The latest adidas x Star Wars collaboration will be paying homage to everyone’s favorite astromech droid, R2-D2 as adidas will be remixing their Nite Jogger silhouette with the familiar colors of the classic Star Wars character. featuring a white and blue colorway, the sneakers will also be sporting a metallic silver overlay while a R2-D2 adidas patch sits atop the tongue. These go hard, b. No word yet on the retail for these babies but you’ll soon be finding out as they have a release date of December 2, 2019. It’s been over a week since Cody Simpson and Miley Cyrus were spotted kissing . Since then, Miley put slut-shamers on blast , but that’s not quite the same as officially, officially confirming that they’re an item. Now, the two are sharing cutesy (and steamy) photos, touching tongues in bed, and yes, confirming that they’re dating. Cody Simpson opened up to In Touch Weekly and other tabloids about his happy new relationship with Miley Cyrus. “I’m very happy. Yeah, I’m very, very happy, so,” Cody began. “She’s creative, she’s very passionate about what she does, and I’m very similar in that sense,” he observes. In 2017, only 7% of children’s books were published by Black, LatinX or indigenous authors. As we move towards a more diverse population, the lack of representation across the diaspora in books is appalling. Non-profit organization NABU saw this inconsistency and decided to help close the diversity gap with NABU Publishing. Together these women are making sure that reading is not only accessible but also representative of marginalized communities. Benedict who is the Director of Global Operations and Programs shared, “The significance of seeing one’s reality in a storybook, should not be taken lightly. When you grow up reading in your mother-tongue, and actively seeing yourself represented in illustrations, you develop self-confidence that is unbound and powerful. You begin to believe that you are the creator of your own destiny, and this intrinsic belief ultimately leads to self-actualization.” Currently, only 13% of children’s books published in the US in the last 25 years contain any kind of multicultural content. NABU publishing is actively changing this. The publishing company was birthed when the co-creators of NABU realized how much talent was in Haiti and Rwanda. They created a network of authors and illustrators who are creating engaging children’s stories for their respective local markets (and in their local languages) to help increase and encourage literacy amongst children. NABU Publishing is helping to take this a step further by translating the stories into bilingual English editions for the US children’s book market. This is incredible for second generation children and parents who want to make sure their children have diverse books or books with characters represented from their home country. To launch their program, today, on International Day Of The Girl, NABU Publishing chose two stories from their Haitian collection: Princess Maniya and Lila Plays Soccer. The books feature the original Haitian Creole and English translation side by side and strong girl protagonists. What a way to promote and encourage bilingual behavior amongst children! Given that NABU is a non-profit, the proceed from the books will fund NABU’s early childhood literacy work in Haiti as well as enable them to commission more creatives to create books in their language. For each book that is sold, NABU will give a free digital copy to children in Haiti who are reading on tablets and smartphones. If you look on the back of each book, you’ll find a QR code and readers can see a live tracking of how many pages children in the NABU programs have read! So cool. There are over 7,000 languages spoken in the world today and almost half of them are in danger of extinction. For Black communities, story telling has often been a way of passing down traditions, history and more. This is the direct way that culture survives. By creating NABU Publishing, the organization is encouraging the preservation of languages, traditions, and overall culture so that the next generation can benefit and thrive. While your children may have access to books, there are many that do not. Purchase a copy for your child here and a digital copy will be sent to a child in Haiti. So much for the rumor that Miley Cyrus likes the single life , huh? According to some rather clear photographic evidence, there’s at least one thing this artist likes more than not being tied down by a man or a woman: Cody Simpson’s tongue in her mouth! On Thursday afternoon, Cyrus and Simpson were spotted at a Los Angeles grocery store …where an eyewitness told E! News the stars went inside to grab a drink and some sushi. No big deal, right? But this isn’t all the eyewitness saw: According to this onloooker, the two singers also shared a ” quick kiss ” while perusing their food options. WHOA THERE! Not long after the spit was swapped, the onlooker said Miley, who was “dressed casually in a tank top,” and Cody “noticed people seeing them so they tried to rush out of there.” Sounds like an attempt at a covert romance, doesn’t it? For the record, People Magazine and Us Weekly have also published reports of Simpson and Cyrus making out. These are all reputable celebrity gossip sources. It is now official: Not only is Justin Bieber a married man, but Justin Bieber is a happily married man. That much is now evident. The singer and Hailey Baldwin got married on September 13, 2018 in a courthouse in New York City. But they didn’t get a chance to celebrate with any family members or friends at the time; nor did they get a chance to express their love for each other in a religious sense, considering this was a brief civil ceremony. Therefore, on Monday evening in South Carolina, Bieber and Baldwin went ahead and exchanged vows for a second time. Several hours after multiple outlets reported on the couple’s second wedding, Bieber shared a handful of images from the celebratory event on his Instagram account. Our well-traveled Pan-African bae recently posted a video of himself at a market in Senegal haggling with a vendor over a hat. The 85 to Africa -rapper positioned the video as a tutorial on how to negotiate prices when you go to the market. In the video, we see him going back and forth with the vendor and bluffing as if he was going to walk away before the vendor caves and gives him the price he deems more fair. Jidenna’s travel videos come at a really good time, especially since it’s the Year Of Return, a concept that has been trending all year. And honestly, we just need for Jidenna to get a travel show already! It’s something that you will probably want to put on your to do list, no matter what country your visit, but there are unspoken rules you should follow, and haggling is one of them. I have been to Ghana twice, as well as Togo, and the markets I experienced were sensory overload. I mean, people were selling literally some of anything and they have no qualms about getting all up in your face with the things they have to offer. However, while I did participate in haggling with vendors, I must admit, I was filled with anxiety, especially because you have to get really aggressive sometimes and I prefer to be laid back. Ideally, I just preferred that they would set one fair price and let me be great, but nope. Haggling is what they do, and if you are a Yankee aka an outsider, best believe they are going to jack up the price 5-fold in some cases. I traveled solo during my first trip to Ghana, and my driver was nice enough to accompany me to the market. I had a moment where I was so overwhelmed — because people will be trying to sell me things while I was still in the middle of another transaction — that I was going to just make the purchase at whatever the price was and my driver said absolutely not! He said that I was about to pay way too much money and that the vendor was a crook. It was a $20 Kente cloth clutch that I had talked down from $40, so I thought that was good. I was okay with paying the $20 but my driver demanded that we leave because he didn’t like the price. We got that down to $15. I had something similar happen during my second trip to Ghana. My friend’s mother, a native Ghanaian, scolded me and the vendor. She told me that the price was way too high for a shirt that I wanted, and that I should never settle because they always try to get over on foreigners. She then told the vendor, in Twi (Ghanians speak English, but prefer their native languages, and if you can speak their native tongues then you will yield better results), that she was being ridiculous. It took that moment for the vendor to relent and give me a price that was slashed by at least a quarter. Every time I went to the market after that I made sure to have a local person with me. In Togo, my group was hosted by an influential businessman from the country, and he was the only one who spoke the language (In Togo it’s French as well as various native tongues, including Ewe, and Kabiy é, among over 40 more depending on region). He made sure that we got what we needed without the smoke. So, the more connections you have, the better. That’s my advice to you if you ever find yourself in an African market! Go with a local, stand your ground, and don’t be afraid to walk away if you don’t like the price, which will probably be marked up by quadruple. Nine times out of 10, vendors won’t let you walk away without making a sale so they will meet you in the middle. Now, go forth and get your Year of Return on!
