Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN In case you’ve been living under a rock, our favorite “ Hot Girl ” and her former makeup artist Akil McCoy aka @akilaface have been going back and forth via Instagram. And things may have escalated with the possibility of the two heading to court. See, this whole situation started when Teen Vogue released their video of following the Houston native around for 24 hours. In the video, Meg gave fans an inside look in her new life as one of the hottest femcee’s in the game. Ps. they caught Johnathan being the charger thief he really is A post shared by Hot Girl Meg (@theestallion) on Oct 22, 2019 at 9:40am PDT In a portion of the video, Megan get candid with Vogue about her love for makeup and hair , her late mother’s influence and crafting makeup looks on her own. And that’s when things took a turn. Her former makeup artist Akil commented under the post saying, “Makeup By Akilaface.” Once Megan got wind, an argument via Instagram ensued. Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN Akil stands by the fact that he should have been credited in the Vogue video as her makeup artist, whereas Meg was fired back saying that she indeed does her own makeup and that of he had a problem he should have contacted her directly. While it seemed as if words were continued to be exchanged between the two, Megan has clearly had enough. According to TMZ , Megan’s lawyer sent Akil a cease and desist letter. In other words, Akil needs to delete his comments on Meg’s page and stop speaking about their former professional relationship. A clear violation of their nondisclosure agreement, it’s said that if Akil doesn’t take the appropriate actions, he may be heading to court. View this post on Instagram @ejking21 and @akilaface got me together today for Beautycon A post shared by Hot Girl Meg (@theestallion) on Aug 11, 2019 at 4:53pm PDT While the whole fiasco had social media taking sides on the matter, the truth is, Megan has said multiple times that she has done her own makeup. On the occasions, Akil hasn’t said a word to counteract what she’s said. Many people believe that he wanted the notoriety of being mentioned in Vogue , while others agree that he should be credited for his work. So far, there is no word on whether or not the two will meet in court, but things can change. What say you? Do you think Megan should take Akil to court? Should she just leave the situation alone? #MeToo Founder Tarana Burke Has A Message For Comedians Trying To Return After Sexual Misconduct

Read the original:

Source: Bennett Raglin / Getty Tuesday marks the two year anniversary #MeToo went viral bringing wider attention to victims of sexual assault and misconduct. Though 2017 was the viral moment, the #MeToo work has been carrying on since before 2017 thanks to founder Tarana Burke . For the movement’s two year anniversary, Burke is reflecting on its impact and how it’s shifted the ways people talk about sexual violence. In an interview with Teen Vogue , one standout moment came when Burke was asked about the “gray areas” of sexual assault and misconduct. One person who came to mind was Aziz Ansari , who was accused of sexual misconduct for repeatedly pressuring a woman to have sex. Eventually, Ansari issued a statement saying he took time to “process” the woman’s side of the story, and he also addressed the incident in his Netflix stand-up special “Aziz Ansari: Right Now”. Burke spoke on this and even brought up Dave Chappelle , who notoriously made jokes about Michael Jackson and child molestation in his latest Netflix special “Stick & Stones”. “Can I say something about that in terms of accountability,” Burke started. “I have been thinking a lot about Dave Chappelle and Aziz Ansari because they both have these comedy specials, right? And I know Dave Chappelle wasn’t accused of anything, whatever, but he decided he was just going to go down this road….But some people are not going to be comfortable with what I’m going to say. I’ve said this in places where people are like, ‘I don’t agree with you,’ but I think Aziz Ansari’s response… has anybody seen his stand-up? He didn‘t act like it didn’t happen. He talked very clearly about what his year’s been like, and not from a like, ‘Yo, this has been a really messed up year,’ but like, ‘what did I learn? What did I do? How did I try to make this situation, turn this situation around?’ He was humble.” Burke then went on to compare him to fellow comedian Louis C.K.   who was also accused of sexual misconduct and is now trying to make a comeback. “And I said, you know, ‘Why can’t these other folks at least have some lessons,” Burke said. “I’m just so angry at the folks who kind of hide for six months, and then peek their head, like Louis C.K . Louis C.K. is an assh*le.” She continued: “And I’m going to tell you, he was one of my favorite comedians, right? I loved his show, I love Louis C.K., but you going to come back and start talking about transphobes, and children getting shot, what are we supposed to do?” Finally, Burke asserted: “And this is the thing about accountability with these public figures that I think they don’t get. You want my support, right? I don’t tell anybody what it should look like, but for me, when I think about accountability, you start with the person you harmed first. So before you bring your face out into the public or whatever, did you go to the people who you caused harm to and ask them what they need? Did you try to have a process, any kind of process, restorative process, with them? And they may say, “I don’t want that. I don’t want anything to do with you,” which is their right. But you have to start there. The second layer of that is, you want me to laugh at your jokes, buy your tickets, watch your specials, and you think you’re not accountable to me, and my values are not supposed to come into play on how I spend my money and my time? You are mistaken.” SEE ALSO: Questlove Clears Up Comments He Made About Iggy Azalea And Cultural Appropriation Police Interrogation Firm Sues Ava DuVernay And Netflix Over ‘When They See Us’

“Girl, You’re Gangster”: Rihanna Defends The ‘Vogue’ Writer Who Got Major Backlash For Winging Their Interview

Source: James Devaney / Getty Rihanna Stands Behind The Writer Who Interviewed Her For Vogue Rihanna is a woman of the people, so she’s not here for all of the slander Abby Aguirre–the writer behind her latest Vogue cover story–is facing. After the profile was published, the reporter was bombarded with backlash over her confession that she had gone into the interview without any questions prepared. Here’s the excerpt from the story that had everyone up in arms: ‘Normally I bring a list of questions, but I didn’t have time to prepare one, which I make a split-second decision to confess. “I’m winging it, so you have to help me,” I say nervously. Rihanna flashes a grin that is somehow both reassuring and mischievous. “Aren’t we all?” she says.’ When reading this sentence out of context, it’s easy to see why people are upset: How could you NOT be prepared for an interview with Rihanna? And better yet, why would you ADMIT that to her…and then, on top of it, publish that admission within the article?! Here’s what Aguirre had to say when the backlash initially started pouring in: GUYS. I was driving to Trader Joe's in sweatpants when I got the call and literally had to flip a bitch. I research my subjects to death. *Especially* Rihanna. I appreciate the anger behind the reaction. But this is a misunderstanding, for which I take full responsibility. — Abby Aguirre (@abby_aguirre) October 9, 2019 I had literally no notice. The point was to convey how nerve-wracking this was, given my deep, bordering-on-psychotic reverence for Rihanna. — Abby Aguirre (@abby_aguirre) October 9, 2019 There are still a lot of folks who aren’t okay with her explanation, for a lot of reasons, but as for Rihanna, she came to the writer’s defense once she was alerted of the goings on. “Wait, wait, what?” Rih told WWD   when asked about the criticism of Aguirre’s interview. “No, no, no, no. That’s gangster. For you to get a call the day before being like, ‘Hey, Rihanna’s in L.A., you wanna do this?’ And show up on the dime and write an incredible article that I’m really proud of and enjoyed reading? She’s badass for that.” The mogul went on to say, “If you don’t have to prepare, girl, you’re gangster.”

Fashioning A Wedding? Rihanna Reveals To Anna Wintour What Designer She Will Work With For Her Big Day

Source: Han Myung-Gu / Getty Rihanna has been with her billionaire boyfriend, Hassan Jameel, for over two years now. The Saudi businessman is heir to the Toyota Motors fortune in Saudia Arabia and the Middle East. She recently admitted in an Interview Magazine  interview with Sarah Paulson that she’s in love and in her recent Vogue interview , she added that she’s in a exclusive relationship. She revealed, “I’m actually in an exclusive relationship for quite some time, and it’s going really well, so I’m happy.” And while fans have been (im)patiently waiting for R9 , it seems that the Fenty Beauty and Fenty Maison founder may have wedding bells instead of beats, on her mind. She appeared in a Go Ask Anna video, where Rihanna and Anna Wintour ask each other questions, the singer was very quick to discuss what her dream wedding dress would be. She gushes to Wintour, “A collaboration between myself and [John] Galliano, off course,” she says. We would love to see Rihanna the bride! She has publicly discussed wanting children on numerous occasions; however, rarely discusses weddings and a marriage. Could this be a hint that the two are thinking of tying the knot? If a Rihanna Savage x Fenty fashion show is a production…imagine what the style icons’ wedding would be like! We can only hope and wish. Beauties, do you think we’re getting closer to a Mrs. Fenty? Will she be taking some time out of empire building to start a family? Sound off in the comment section. Jason Weaver Turned Down $2M For OG ‘The Lion King’ To Collect Future Royalties

Source: Leon Bennett / Getty Jason Weaver’s career might not be today what it was back in the 90’s when he was popping up on shows like Smart Guy and films like Drumline (crazy underappreciated joint). But fret not for he’s still collecting bread from one of his greatest performances ever, Simba in The Lion King . That’s right, the same guy who played a young Michael Jackson in the 1992 mini-series, The Jacksons: An American Dream, also voiced your favorite cartoon lion from the early 90’s not named Tony. Luckily Weaver’s mother was showing and proving that she wasn’t raising no fool and instead of taking a $2 million payday from Disney, she felt it better if they negotiated a contract which included future royalties from the upcoming film even though “this was definitely at a time when Disney wasn’t doing those kind of deals.” In an interview on Vlad TV, Jason revealed that thanks to his mama he’s still getting checks cut by Disney whose The Lion King seems to be on TV every damn weekend. “Disney had a reputation of that, for like re-releasing stuff. I think at that time they had put out  Sleeping Beauty  and some of their old catalog from when Walt Disney was alive. They were releasing that stuff when they were releasing the new Disney stuff, so [Weaver’s mother] was able to see the playing field and go, ‘Wait a minute, this is going to make a lot of money over time, so what happens when my son turns 40? Is he going to be able to get a check for this when they eventually re-release this.” Talk about motherly instincts. After negotiating a new deal for his role in the animated film, Jason walked away with a cool $100K and future royalties for his work. Of course he eventually made back the $2 million that was originally turned down but none of this would’ve been made possible without some good ol’ motherly advice. Mama definitely knows best. Check out the interview below and never forget when you see The Lion King playing on TV, Jason Weaver getting paaaiiiid.

She’s With Kap: Rihanna Says She Curved Super Bowl Because Of Colin Kaepernick

Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN Rihanna is still a real one. In a recent interview, the Bajan singer and mogul confirmed that she passed on performing at the 2019 Super Bowl specifically and unequivocally because of Colin Kaepernick. By now you should know, Kap has been essentially blackballed by the NFL as a consequence of protesting injustice by kneeling while the National Anthem was played before football games. Many have shown support for Kaepernick for sacrificing his career, including Rihanna. In a new cover story with Vogue for its November 2019 issue, Rihanna let her rationale for curving the NFL be known. “I couldn’t dare do that. For what? Who gains from that? Not my people,” Rihanna told the publication. “I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler.” She added, “There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.” Nevertheless, her buddy JAY-Z has teamed with the NFL . But don’t bank on Rihanna being one of the acts Roc Nation books for an NFL performance in the name of social justice. Salute this Queen. Peep what more of what she had to say on variety of topics right here . Let us know what you think of Rih Rih’s decision in the comments.

Justin Bieber Defends Buying Exotic Cats from Breeders: Suck It, PETA!

“Newly” married man Justin Bieber has been drooling over his gorgeous bride on social media, and you can’t really blame him. But he also purchased two very expensive, somewhat exotic cats — and the ever-controversial PETA absolutely can blame him for that. The Biebs is hitting back with a lengthy message explaining his reasoning. But he’s also telling PETA to “suck it.” Okay, so first up, the cats — the real heroes and possibly the only innocents in this story. Justin has acquired two kittens, whom he has named Sushi and Tuna. (One assumes that he tells them apart because Tuna is the one with more mercury content) The two kittens are Savannahs, which are part domestic cat and part African Serval. These cats are restricted in thirteen out of fifty states because they are considered “living room leopards.” The Biebs purchased the pair from a breeder for a combined $35,000. “Baby, baby, baby, nooooooo.,” PETA’s President said in a truly cringe-worthy statement to People which made us physically recoil. “Justin Bieber could inspire his fans around the world to save a life by adopting a cat from a local animal shelter,” the statement suggested. PETA continued: “rather than fueling the dangerous demand for hybrid cats.” The controversial organization accused the Biebs of “contributing to the animal overpopulation crisis.” “And proving that when it comes to helping animals,” PETA declared. “His stance so far is ‘I don’t care.” “PETA can suck it,” Justin Bieber announced. No, that’s not a literal invitation, so please do not show up at his house in PETA merch ready to take him up on it. He’s married , folks. “PETA go focus on real problems,” the Biebs then demanded in his Instagram Story. “Like poaching, and animal brutality.” “Ur tripping because I want a specific kind of cat?” he wrote in astonishment. “U weren’t tripping when I got my dog Oscar and he wasn’t a rescue,” Justin accuses. “Every pet we get must be a rescue?” he asks. The answer to that is 100% yes, by the way. “I believe in adopting rescues,” Justin expresses. “But also think there are preferences” “And that’s what breeders are for,” he surmises. “PETA go help with all of the plastic in the ocean,” Justin suggests. “And leave my beautiful cats alone.” “Sorry, Justin, but you must think more deeply about this issue,” PETA fired back. The new statement noted: “When millions of animals are losing their lives every year because not enough people adopt — choosing instead to shop.” “The animal overpopulation crisis is a ‘real problem,'” PETA argued. “That’s what ‘sucks.'” “PETA urges you to spend just one hour in a municipal animal shelter with us,” the statement continued. “We think you’ll understand how hard it is to look into the animals’ eyes,” PETA added. “And know that because people pay breeders, many of them will pay with their lives,” PETA pointed out. “You have the power to be a great role model on this issue,” the statement continued. “Your behavior guides that of tons of your fans,” PETA concluded. “So please put that to good use.” PETA is known for off-putting campaigns that are pointlessly controversial and deeply misleading, possibly doing harm to animal rights causes. They are technically right here, but is challening the Biebs on the issue the right way to change hearts and minds? View Slideshow: Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber: Married! Again! Cross Colours: Black Fashion In The 20th Century Exhibition Comes To The CAAM Museum

Visit link:

Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty The 90’s produced an era of African American brands that revolutionized fashion and left a long lasting affect on Black culture . From Baby Phat to Karl Kani, creative expression through fashion was widely practiced and supported. Among the many brands to leave a dent in Black culture was Cross Colours. Not only was their bright color-blocking aesthetic fueled with political messaging, it was also everything we didn’t know we needed at the time. Carl Jones and TJ Walker founded Cross Colours back in 1989. Their clothing line was a testament to the carefree feeling of the 90’s. Back then, women wore baggy clothes like the men so in some ways, they presented as gender neutral brand. It was a rebellious, fun, colorful way to express yourself and represent the culture, hence their tag line “Clothing without Prejudice”. Cross Colours aimed to have an open dialog on police brutality, drugs, and the educational gap by projecting the positive attributes of black and urban culture. https://www.instagram.com/p/B29oJ_ngIS7/?igshid=15ve8ud4gynva https://www.instagram.com/p/B2otX9ego8S/?igshid=w726t7jcv9ap With such a rich history contributed to the urban community, it is great to see that Cross Colours now has an exhibition at The California African American Museum called, “Cross Colours: Black Fashion in the 20th Century.” The exhibit shows the history of brand from it’s birth in 1989 to current day trends. In an interview with Vogue , Co-curator Tyree Boyd-Pates says the exhibition, “is organized as a visual roadmap of the African America social movements that inspired the brand, both thematically and historically.” He adds, “in particular, it shows how Cross Colours modeled Black pride, community responsibility, and solidarity in the early 1990s.” The messaging of the brand is something that rings very true today. “I can’t believe that the slogan we printed on our T-shirts, ‘Clothing Without Prejudice,’ is something that still needs to be said today,” Jones says. “That was in the ’90s, and I think it’s as relevant today as it was then, maybe even more so.” This exhibition couldn’t have come at a better time. It is a great way of showcasing how fashion can make a statement beyond the clothes you wear. There is a lack of Black designers producing affordable, urban street wear like there was in the 90’s. This exhibition in some ways pays homage to the innovators who used fabric as a way to unite an entire community of people. Personally speaking, I’m jealous of the L.A. residents who get to witness the history of Cross Colors at the California African American Museum. From now until March 1, 2020, you can experience the Black Fashion in the 20th Century exhibit. Nah Bruh: A$AP Rocky Encourages Men To Wear Nail Art

Let’s face it— A$AP Rocky gets away with wearing a lot of weird stuff in the name of high fashion. Pretty Flacko is trying to start a new wave but we are super good. Page Six is reporting that the Harlem native feels very strongly about the male population sporting color on their hands. In a recent interview with Vogue he discussed a myriad of topics including his AGWE brand, eating habits, masculinity and more. While talking about his influence on fashion he made it clear he hopes to inspire men to paint their nails. Yes, paint their nails—not that there’s anything wrong with that. “I feel like men should be able to do nail art without feeling feminine” the Babushka Boi said as he shows the writer his nails which have been painted with Prada branding. “Yeah! This lady who is really, really good drew Prada on my nails when I was shooting my Prada collaboration, and she did my nails for the photos.” For the last couple of years the “Peso” rapper has been sporting illustrations on his nails. Naturally, the art on his hands typically slants towards his love of fashion but he recently used his nails to protest his infamous arrest in Sweden. Shortly after his release from the jail he posted a photo with “Love” and the American flag painted on his nails. View this post on Instagram I AM OF COURSE DISAPPOINTED BY TODAY’S VERDICT. I WANT TO SAY THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF MY FANS, FRIENDS, AND EVERYONE WHO SHOWED ME LOVE DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME. IMMA KEEP MOVING FORWARD. THANK YOU TO MY TEAM, MY MANAGEMENT, ATTORNEYS, LABEL AND EVERYONE WHO ADVOCATED FOR JUSTICE. A post shared by PRETTY FLACKO (@asaprocky) on Aug 14, 2019 at 12:33pm PDT Photo: Adriana M.
