Source: Splash / Splash News Earlier this month it was reported that Kanye West had put down a King Kong grip on 4,500 acres of land in Cody,Wyoming where he and Kim Kardashian found themselves harassing innocent wildlife who clearly didn’t sign up for that ish. Still, Kanye West is all about that “love thy neighbor” life these days and decided to throw one of his signature Sunday Service sermons at the Buffalo Bill Center of The West and invited his new neighbors to bare witness to the hottest ticket in town. Needless to say people showed up in droves to turn up and take in the gospel of Yeezus in all it’s musical glory. According to TMZ some 700+ people attended the Sunday gathering at BBCW’s Powwow Garden where aside from the typical Kanye inspired tunes the crowd rocked out to renditions of classic Nirvana songs “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and “Come As You Are” amongst other joints. Kanye really knows how to endear himself to them white folks in the Midwest. Check out videos of Kanye’s Sunday Service show in Wyoming below and let us know your thoughts. Source: John Shearer / Getty Anyone not following Jidenna’s travels through the Motherland on Instagram really needs to do so now! Our well-traveled Pan-African bae recently posted a video of himself at a market in Senegal haggling with a vendor over a hat. The 85 to Africa -rapper positioned the video as a tutorial on how to negotiate prices when you go to the market. In the video, we see him going back and forth with the vendor and bluffing as if he was going to walk away before the vendor caves and gives him the price he deems more fair. Jidenna’s travel videos come at a really good time, especially since it’s the Year Of Return, a concept that has been trending all year. And honestly, we just need for Jidenna to get a travel show already! View this post on Instagram For the hundreds of thousands of you in the Diaspora who are returning to Africa in December, this is how you don’t get ripped off as a “Yankee”. The strategy is usually the same but the style and intensity of your voice will vary from country to country (Dakar markets are more calm than Lagos markets, so I’m far less agressive here than I usually am ). A post shared by Jidenna (@jidenna) on Sep 22, 2019 at 5:34am PDT Anyway, don’t be fooled by how cool Jidenna makes it look. The market experience in the Motherland is a serious part of the culture. It’s something that you will probably want to put on your to do list, no matter what country your visit, but there are unspoken rules you should follow, and haggling is one of them. I have been to Ghana twice, as well as Togo, and the markets I experienced were sensory overload. I mean, people were selling literally some of anything and they have no qualms about getting all up in your face with the things they have to offer. However, while I did participate in haggling with vendors, I must admit, I was filled with anxiety, especially because you have to get really aggressive sometimes and I prefer to be laid back. Ideally, I just preferred that they would set one fair price and let me be great, but nope. Haggling is what they do, and if you are a Yankee aka an outsider, best believe they are going to jack up the price 5-fold in some cases. I traveled solo during my first trip to Ghana, and my driver was nice enough to accompany me to the market. I had a moment where I was so overwhelmed — because people will be trying to sell me things while I was still in the middle of another transaction — that I was going to just make the purchase at whatever the price was and my driver said absolutely not! He said that I was about to pay way too much money and that the vendor was a crook. It was a $20 Kente cloth clutch that I had talked down from $40, so I thought that was good. I was okay with paying the $20 but my driver demanded that we leave because he didn’t like the price. We got that down to $15. I had something similar happen during my second trip to Ghana. My friend’s mother, a native Ghanaian, scolded me and the vendor. She told me that the price was way too high for a shirt that I wanted, and that I should never settle because they always try to get over on foreigners. She then told the vendor, in Twi (Ghanians speak English, but prefer their native languages, and if you can speak their native tongues then you will yield better results), that she was being ridiculous. It took that moment for the vendor to relent and give me a price that was slashed by at least a quarter. Every time I went to the market after that I made sure to have a local person with me. In Togo, my group was hosted by an influential businessman from the country, and he was the only one who spoke the language (In Togo it’s French as well as various native tongues, including Ewe, and Kabiy é, among over 40 more depending on region). He made sure that we got what we needed without the smoke. So, the more connections you have, the better. That’s my advice to you if you ever find yourself in an African market! Go with a local, stand your ground, and don’t be afraid to walk away if you don’t like the price, which will probably be marked up by quadruple. Nine times out of 10, vendors won’t let you walk away without making a sale so they will meet you in the middle. Now, go forth and get your Year of Return on! 42 Dead In Islamic Terrorist Attack On Nigerian College Another day, another deadly terrorist attack . Via Fox News: Islamic terrorists dressed in Nigerian military uniforms assaulted a college inside the country Sunday, gunning down dozens of students as they slept in their dorms and shot others trying to flee, witnesses say. “They started gathering students into groups outside, then they opened fire and killed one group and then moved onto the next group and killed them. It was so terrible,” one surviving student, who would only give his first name of Idris, told Reuters. The siege began at about 1 a.m. in rural Gujba. “They attacked our students while they were sleeping in their hostels, they opened fire at them,” Provost Molima Idi Mato of Yobe State College of Agriculture, told The Associated Press. The extremists also torched classrooms. Nigeria State Police Commissioner Sanusi Rufai told Reutersthat he suspected that the terrorist group Boko Haram was behind the attack, but declined to elaborate. Idi Mato said he could not give an exact death toll as security forces still are recovering bodies of students mostly aged between 18 and 22, but he said as many as 50 may have been killed. The Nigerian military has already collected 42 bodies and transported 18 wounded students to Damaturu Specialist Hospital, 25 miles north, said a military intelligence official, who insisted on anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press. Two of the wounded later died, said Adamu Usman, a survivor from Gujba who was helping at the hospital. Boko Haram is aiming to establish an Islamic state in northern Nigeria and has intensified attacks on civilians in revenge for a Nigerian military offensive against the group, Reuters reports. Most schools in the area closed after militants on July 6 killed 29 pupils and a teacher, burning some alive in their hostels, at Mamudo outside Damaturu. Northeastern Nigeria is under a military state of emergency to battle an Islamic uprising prosecuted by Boko Haram militants who have killed more than 1,700 people since 2010 in their quest to install an Islamic state, though half the country’s 160 million citizens are Christian. Boko Haram means Western education is forbidden in the local Hausa language. More than 30,000 people have fled the terrorist attacks to neighboring Cameroon and Chad and the uprising combined with the military emergency has forced farmers from their fields and vendors from their markets. The attacks come as Nigeria prepares to celebrate 52 years of independence from Britain on Tuesday and amid political jockeying in the run up to presidential elections next year with many northern Muslim politicians saying they do not want another term for Jonathan, who is from the predominantly Christian south. Damn, the dead body count keeps rising and it’s just so sad that innocent lives are taken each week with these attacks. SMH.
So sad … Teenage Girl Commits Suicide Because Of Online Bullies Jessica Laney, 16, of Hudson, Florida, was a popular soccer-playing high schooler in her real-life, but when she got home to the privacy of her computer she had a busy social media alter-ego on sites such as Tumblr, and Ask.fm, where people can ask questions and make anonymous comments… Via RadarOnline reports: The student at Fivay High School bantered with other users on the site under the name Jessica Marieee1, and while many posts were about boys, songs and make-up, some took on a much more sinister tone, calling her fat and a loser. One visitor asked her, “Can you kill yourself already?” and another commented “nobody even cares about you.” While many of her real friends believe that the taunts from Internet trolls are to blame for Jessica’s death by hanging, an official from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office says neither Laney’s parents nor Laney’s boyfriend were aware of any bullying in her life. “Our thoughts and prayers go to the Jessica Marie Laney’s family as they deal with their loss. (Pasco County Sheriff’s Office) is not aware of any formal complaint to the Pasco School District or PSO about her being bullied,” said Doug Tobin, Public Information Officer for the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. However, some telling online comments from Jessica herself on Ask.fm hint at deep rifts in her home-life and trouble with her family. “I miss so many people, but honestly I miss my brother, not the person he is now, but the one he use to be,” she wrote two days before her death. “I know he doesn’t miss me, but it still hurts to know he will never come back and more than likely never talk to me again.” Many of Jessica’s friends are now campaigning to have the controversial website taken down and have launched a petition on Change.org, that has already garnered thousands of signatures. “After I saw that, I thought they should just delete the website. Nobody should have that, to have people say stuff like that on there,” said school pal Laney Torres. The old adage “sticks and stones will break bones, but words will never hurt” is so far from the truth. Parents need to be into their kids business, all of it. Our deepest sympathies to this young girl’s family.
This may sound like great news… but don’t be fooled by Ben Bernanke’s azz dressed in sheep’s’ clothing. According to The Huffington Post , the hold on rates may help stimulate the economy, but it’s going to hurt millions who are retired and others who live off of savings. The Federal Reserve said Wednesday that it plans to keep interest rates ultra-low even after unemployment falls close to a normal level – which it thinks could take three more years. For the first time, the Fed made clear to investors and consumers that it will link its actions to specific economic markers. As long as inflation remains tame, the central bank said it could keep key short-term rates near zero, even after unemployment returns to a more typical rate. Previously, the Fed said it expected to keep interest rates at record lows at least through mid-2015. Now it expects rates to stay low at least until unemployment drops below 6.5 percent – a threshold the bank believes may not be crossed until the end of 2015. Analysts said the Fed’s new guidance will make it easier for companies, investors and consumers to make financial decisions because they will have a clearer grasp of when borrowing costs will begin to rise. “This approach is superior” to setting a timetable for a possible rate increase, Chairman Ben Bernanke said at a news conference after the Fed held a two-day policy meeting and issued a statement. “It is more transparent and will allow the markets to respond quickly and promptly to changes” in the Fed’s economic outlook. Though the Fed’s low interest-rate policies are intended to boost borrowing, spending and stock prices, they also hurt millions of retirees and others who depend on income from savings. Bernanke made clear that even after unemployment falls below 6.5 percent, the Fed might decide that it needs to keep stimulating the economy. Other economic factors will also shape its policy decisions, he said. Economists regard a normal unemployment rate as 6 percent or less. “The Fed has become more explicit and more transparent,” said Steven Wood, chief economist at Insight Economics. “This should provide the markets with much more clarity around monetary policy action in the upcoming year.” Still, Bernanke warned that none of the Fed’s actions could outweigh the economic pain that would be caused by sharp tax increases and government spending cuts that are set to kick in next month. The standoff between President Barack Obama and Republican lawmakers over how to resolve the “fiscal cliff” is already hurting the economy, in part by reducing consumer and business confidence, he said. We’re not surprised that some people are blaming Barack on this one…even though he doesn’t control the Federal Reserve. While Bernanke holds rates so low, older working folks aren’t earning any interest on their 401k’s and, IF the unemployment rate ever drops below 6.5%, that 3% interest everyone’s been enjoying in the housing market is going to jump up to ‘normal’ again and then what?? Another real estate collapse? Watch out folks! Images via tumblr

Miami’s Mekka hosts 12th Planet, Pendulum, Drop the Lime and more. By Akshay Bhansali 12th Planet Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images MIAMI — Nestled in a series of rooms at Mekka downtown, Smog vs. Basshead, a party conceived by bass-music champions from L.A. and Miami, on Thursday night again realized a frenzied hands-in-the-air steamfest. For the third year in a row, hundreds of partygoers screamed their lungs out, pumping their arms to the warbles and drum and bass. For all the talk of dubstep and drum and bass being mostly underground, judging by the event’s attendance, the genre is booming — and pioneers like 12th Planet (born John Dadzie), a 13-year California bass veteran and Smog label head, couldn’t be prouder. “It started off as a party at the White Room, and Basshead is a label based out of Miami,” 12th explained to MTV News after his set. “The label actually put out my first dubstep release, so we were kind of always routed together, and we just decided to join forces because, being from California, it’s hard to break into other markets. “We got the opportunity to work in Miami, and the first show was a hit. And the second show, last year, was the biggest Smog vs. Basshead. And then this year, just as many people. So, I’m totally excited — totally stoked.” The world SVB creates bears a comparison to the large-scale EDM event taking place a few blocks away. While the bass get-together might not reach the scale of the Ultra Music Festival , a variety of artists gathered for a series of fiery performances, taking fans into day-break. “It’s just five room of bass — straight up!” 12th proclaimed. SVB featured 16bit, Noah D, Flinch, Jaun Basshead and more. U.K. bass aggregator, feeder and video-sharing community UKF boasted a Pendulum DJ set, Zeds Dead and Kaon Sound. The Trouble & Bass room had Drop the Lime, AC Slater and Toddla T. The Metalheadz room was headlined by Goldie & Bailey. “All these guys making great, great music. We even had Foreign Beggars come down,” 12th said about his former tourmates, an electronic hip-hop collective that recently caught the eye of deadmau5. “They’ve never even played in Florida. I think that is the appeal of this party: You are going to hear the best of bass music.” Miami Music Week is going down, and MTV News is on the ground!
