Today, TIDAL announced TIDAL Unplugged, “an unprecedented million dollar artist grant program dedicated to building emerging artists’ careers,” funded by Mark Lampert (BVF Partners L.P.) & Robert Nelsen (ARCH Venture Partners). While the first go ’round will only accommodate local Detroit artists , TIDAL plans to expand the program into other markets moving forward. So, what are the details? “TIDAL Unplugged will kick off in Detroit, where Lampert’s grandfather started his musical career. Meet The Four Black Finalists Competing To Become PETA’s Sexiest Vegan

Help PETA Choose The Sexiest Vegan Next Door If you need another reason to go meat free, you may want to consider it now so you can have a chance in this contest next year! PETA is preparing to crown this year’s Sexiest Vegan Next Door—and four African-American vegans are all vying for the title. They beat out hundreds of other entrants from across the nation to advance to the final round of 10 male and 10 female contestants. Visitors to PETA.org can now help PETA select the two lucky winners—one man and one woman—who will each receive a free vacation for two to Maui, Hawaii, courtesy of Humane Travel. Here’s the details of the four African-American candidates (there are also several Latino and Asian candidates as well!). PETA Police officer Michael Baysmore of Baltimore (left) went vegan five years ago to improve his health and his physique—and he says that, since then, he’s had more energy, a more robust immune system, and a quicker recovery time after each workout. PETA Natasha James owns and operates Rawcells, a Los Angeles delivery tricycle full of healthy, organic vegan treats such as “twinkies,” “snickers,” and doughnuts. Her goal is to inspire nonvegan Los Angelenos to try plant-based food options beyond salads—and she’s scoring big among diners looking for something novel and sweet. Remote train conductor Arnisha Keaton (middle-right) is based in Atlanta and travels a lot for her work as a chemist in the Army Reserve—and she loves sharing her passion for helping animals with everyone she meets. PETA Makeup artist Niyah Byrd (right) is based in Knoxville, Tennessee, and uses only cruelty-free products in her makeup work and, in her work as a model, has proudly turned down offers from companies that test on animals. “Whether you’re a police officer, a food bike–riding entrepreneur, a member of the Army Reserve, or a makeup artist, vibrant plant-based meals can give you the energy that you need in order to keep up with the action,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Each one of the finalists in PETA’s contest is a testament to how sexy vegans are—inside and out.” Voting for the finalists to help PETA determine whom it should select as the winners ends at 12 noon EDT on June 21. PETA will select the winners based on several factors, including vote count. See the full contest details here. Winners will be notified and announced on June 28. It’s the most intense, riveting show on television. But what if Breaking Bad were instead filmed as a romantic comedy? From the writers of Brokeback Mountain ? But they weren’t enough to save the following two dancers: Nico Greetham and Makenzie Dustman were eliminated. Tucker Knox and Jenna Johnson also landed in the bottom four this week but were saved by the votes of a group of 15 judges and choreographers. Nigel Lythgoe said the voters were unanimous in wanting Tucker to stay over Nico, while the Jenna vs. Makenzie vote was closer: 9 votes to 6. Do you agree with this week’s SYTYCD results?

Should the Judges Have Saved Casey Abrams?

Casey Abrams saw his life flash before his eyes last night. His American Idol life, that is. The bearded singer was surprisingly voted out by fans , following a lackluster Motown cover on Wednesday. Like the finalists before him, Casey was then given the chance to sing one more time in front of the judges in order to convince them to use their one-time “save” and keep him around. And it worked! In a decision that left Abrams visibly stunned – and audibly cursing at one point, watch the clip below – J. Lo, Randy and Steven told the contestant he was safe. Casey Abrams Sings for His Spot Two finalists will now be voted off next Thursday, and this summer’s Idol Live tour will include 11 singers instead of the customary 10. Did the judges make the right decision?

‘American Idol’ Season 10 Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

New judges, new set, new rules — we break down the major changes before new season kicks off Wednesday. By Gil Kaufman “American Idol” Photo: FOX Like a high school girlfriend who comes back from her first semester at college looking totally different, no matter how much you think you knew her, the 10th season of “American Idol” will feel brand new . After a tumultuous off season that saw a nearly wholesale remake of the judging panel, the new season will launch Wednesday with the first of the beloved audition episodes, which always bring the promise of new talent and a fresh crop of delusional weirdos to mock. After Wednesday night’s premiere, head back here to MTV.com at 10 p.m. ET for “Judging the Judges: An ‘Idol’ Without Simon,” a live stream featuring post-show analysis from Jim Cantiello and special guests. What can we expect this season? Here are the major changes in store:

‘American Idol’ Incorporates Even More Changes

Show plans a sudden-death top 20 and eliminates having equal numbers of men and women. By Gil Kaufman Photo: FOX You could see an all-male or all-female top 12 this year on “American Idol.” And instead of viewers at home whittling down the final 24 contestants over three weeks, this year’s show will featuring a single, 20-singer “sudden-death” round that will determine the season 10 finalists. Those are just a few of the additional tweaks “Idol” producers have in store for the upcoming season of the reality singing competition. When “Idol” returns on January 19, viewers will definitely notice the shake-up, according to Entertainment Weekly . “We’re going ahead with a whole fresh change,” executive producer Ken Warwick told the magazine. “Simply because we never thought in our wildest dreams that any show would last 10 years on American television.” You already knew there was a fresh judging panel anchored by newbies Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler and that Interscope Geffen A&M boss Jimmy Iovine will be acting as the in-house mentor. But contrary to earlier reports, contestants will not participate in a video-making challenge after the idea was floated and then abandoned. Another change will also challenge singers who come in with a particular style that they intend to stick with the whole way through. “If you do Motown, then I’m not sure [how] you’re going to sing an R&B song and give it your country flavor,” returning executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said. “You can’t suddenly go [in a painful country twang] ‘Staaaaap! In the naaeeemeee of loooaahve’ — so it’s not going to be like that. They’ve got to be clever with it.” Replacing the old three-week top 24 round in which viewers whittled down the semi-finalists to a top 12, Lythgoe said the top 60 singers were flown to Las Vegas, where they performed on the same stage as the Cirque du Soleil Beatles show “Love.” After 20 were booted, another trimming round in Hollywood will take their numbers down to 20, at which point viewers will vote in a single sudden-death round that will select the finalists from two groups of 10. But, unlike past seasons in which producers split the boys and girls up into equal groups, the final group — which could number 12 or 10, depending on the talent — will not necessarily be evenly balanced. “If I’ve got six fantastic boys and four average girls, I’m certainly not going to throw out a fantastic boy to put in another average girl, or vice versa,” Warwick said. Other notable changes, according to The Hollywood Reporter , include a “substantial modification” to the set, which will be home to new musical director Ray Chew, formerly of the “Saturday Night Live” band, as well as the return of the “Idol” mansion, where the finalists will live during their run on the show. Iovine has hand-picked major producers such as Rodney Jerkins (Janet Jackson, Britney Spears), Ron Fair (Christina Aguilera, Pussycat Dolls), Timbaland (Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado) and Alex Da Kid (Rihanna, Eminem) to help the singers with song selection and provide help with arrangements. In an effort to avoid the loss of headline heat the contestants face when their albums drop later in the year, nearly six months after the show is over, Geffen Records chairman Ron Fair said finalists will start releasing music as the season progresses. “The sands of time are slipping through the hour glass and you want to capitalize while the public is so engaged in the story of winning or losing,” Fair said. “Normally with a new artist, the world isn’t waiting. In ‘American Idol”s case, the public is — they want to hear something great. With a big tail wind like that, you want to set sail.” While many ideas were tossed up against the wall, one that was considered and abandoned was having “Idol” winners face off against former finalists who may have deserved another chance, such as Fantasia taking on Jennifer Hudson or David Cook taking on Adam Lambert. The idea didn’t get very far since few past winners and finalists were keen on it.
