Girl, Gross: Woman Runs London Marathon WITHOUT Wearing This…

Runner Completes Marathon While Menstruating Without A Tampon A musician in the UK decided she wasn’t going to let her period stop her from completing the London marathon. But to make a statement…the woman decided to take on the course without a tampon or any other sort of sanitary protection — in light colored pants to boot. Uh…you go girl?? Via HollywoodLife : After training for a year to run her first marathon in April, Kiran Gandhi certainly wasn’t going to let her period stop her. The 26-year old, who has played drums for singer M.I.A. and Thievery Corporation, decided that running the London Marathon with a tampon in would not be comfortable — so she instead decided to embrace her womanhood and bleed freely during the race. “I ran the whole marathon with my period blood running down my legs,” Kiran, a Harvard Business School graduate, wrote of the 26.2 mile-long race on her personal website. “I ran with blood dripping down my legs for sisters who don’t have access to tampons and sisters who, despite cramping and pain, hide it away and pretend like it doesn’t exist. I ran to say, it does exist, and we overcome it everyday.” After hard work and training, the drummer ended up finishing the race in four hours, 49 minutes and 11 seconds. She posed for pics where she confidently showed the blood running freely down her legs. “I felt kind of like, Yeah! F–k you! I felt very empowered by that. I did, ” Kiran told Cosmopolitan of her decision to run without a tampon. In fact, she believes by doing something like this, sexism can be overcome. “If there’s one way to transcend oppression, it’s to run a marathon in whatever way you want,” Kiran wrote. “Where the stigma of a woman’s period is irrelevant, and we can re-write the rules as we choose.” Hey — we’re all for erasing stigmas and whatnot…but we’re not quite sure how making bleeding all over the place the new wave will help women out in the long run.

Race Matters: Black Unemployment Falls Below 10% Yet Still Twice The Rate For Whites

Black Unemployment Falls Below 10% Yet Still Higher Than Whites We know that the economic recovery’s effects have been unevenly felt. The recovery has been kind to those who invested in certain stocks or whose title begins with the word “chief.” It’s been less charitable to certain groups, like African American workers , whose unemployment rates have lingered in the double-digits for most of the past eight years. Wall Street Journal : For the first time since 2007, the national unemployment rate for African Americans dipped below 10 percent in the second quarter of 2015, according to the Labor Department. Despite that improvement, at 9.5 percent, it’s still nearly twice the national average of 5.3%, and more than double the 4.6% rate for whites. Overall, only 11 states had African American unemployment rates below 10%, according to an analysis by Valerie Wilson, director of the Economic Policy Institute’s Program on Race, Ethnicity, and the Economy. Only eight states have seen unemployment rates for black workers fall below pre-recession levels. In Alabama, the African unemployment rate is more than twice what it was pre-recession: 10.9%, compared with less than 5% throughout 2007. The nationwide average masks wide variations between states and between races. For example, Tennessee has the lowest unemployment rate for black workers, at 6.9%. But that’s about the same rate as the state with the highest unemployment rate for whites, West Virginia, where unemployment stood at around 7% for the quarter. Similarly, the ratio of unemployment rates for black and white workers swings from the low end in Tennessee, where the black unemployment is 1.2 times that of whites, to a ratio of 5.1 in Washington, D.C. Dr. Wilson attributes the especially high rate of black unemployment to the District’s concentrated urban population, which she said is not entirely comparable to state populations. Why the gap? Dr. Wilson points to education and work experience as two major factors. Twenty-two percent of blacks had completed four years of college in 2014, versus 32% of whites, according to the Census Bureau. However, as researchers at the Center for Economic Policy Research have pointed out, that piece of paper is no hedge against unemployment: a 2014 analysis found that 12.4% of black college graduates aged 22 to 27 were unemployed, compared with 5.6% of all college graduates in the same age group. Discuss.

Did You Know? Fed Announces Big Hold On Rates Until The Shady GOP Stops Hatin’ On POTUS’ Stimulus Plans!

This may sound like great news… but don’t be fooled by Ben Bernanke’s azz dressed in sheep’s’ clothing. According to The Huffington Post , the hold on rates may help stimulate the economy, but it’s going to hurt millions who are retired and others who live off of savings. The Federal Reserve said Wednesday that it plans to keep interest rates ultra-low even after unemployment falls close to a normal level – which it thinks could take three more years. For the first time, the Fed made clear to investors and consumers that it will link its actions to specific economic markers. As long as inflation remains tame, the central bank said it could keep key short-term rates near zero, even after unemployment returns to a more typical rate. Previously, the Fed said it expected to keep interest rates at record lows at least through mid-2015. Now it expects rates to stay low at least until unemployment drops below 6.5 percent – a threshold the bank believes may not be crossed until the end of 2015. Analysts said the Fed’s new guidance will make it easier for companies, investors and consumers to make financial decisions because they will have a clearer grasp of when borrowing costs will begin to rise. “This approach is superior” to setting a timetable for a possible rate increase, Chairman Ben Bernanke said at a news conference after the Fed held a two-day policy meeting and issued a statement. “It is more transparent and will allow the markets to respond quickly and promptly to changes” in the Fed’s economic outlook. Though the Fed’s low interest-rate policies are intended to boost borrowing, spending and stock prices, they also hurt millions of retirees and others who depend on income from savings. Bernanke made clear that even after unemployment falls below 6.5 percent, the Fed might decide that it needs to keep stimulating the economy. Other economic factors will also shape its policy decisions, he said. Economists regard a normal unemployment rate as 6 percent or less. “The Fed has become more explicit and more transparent,” said Steven Wood, chief economist at Insight Economics. “This should provide the markets with much more clarity around monetary policy action in the upcoming year.” Still, Bernanke warned that none of the Fed’s actions could outweigh the economic pain that would be caused by sharp tax increases and government spending cuts that are set to kick in next month. The standoff between President Barack Obama and Republican lawmakers over how to resolve the “fiscal cliff” is already hurting the economy, in part by reducing consumer and business confidence, he said. We’re not surprised that some people are blaming Barack on this one…even though he doesn’t control the Federal Reserve. While Bernanke holds rates so low, older working folks aren’t earning any interest on their 401k’s and, IF the unemployment rate ever drops below 6.5%, that 3% interest everyone’s been enjoying in the housing market is going to jump up to ‘normal’ again and then what?? Another real estate collapse? Watch out folks! Images via tumblr

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Sentencing Delayed, Boxer Free to Fight

Ah, the life of a famous person. You can pretty much admit that you beat up the mother of your children… and then make a deal with a judge that allows you to fight for millions. Such is the case for Floyd Mayweather Jr., who was sentenced to 90 days in prison last month on a domestic violence charge , but has now successfully postponed his jail time until June. This means he’ll be free to fight in Nevada on May 5. “We are pleased that the judge granted postponement of Floyd’s surrender date so that he can fulfill his commitment to Las Vegas to deliver his promised mega-fight and the economic benefits it provides to the community,” said Leonard Ellerbe, a representative of the fighter. No opponent has yet been named for the May 5 fight. Mayweather will then begin serving his prison term on June 1. He must also complete 100 hours of community service and pay a $2,500 fine. TeenNick’s ‘ ’90s Are All That’ Frenzy Is ‘Crazy,’ Kenan Thompson Says

Former ‘All That’ and ‘Kenan & Kel’ star talks about block, also featuring ‘Clarissa Explains It All’ and ‘Doug.’ By Jocelyn Vena Kenan Thompson in an episode of “All That” Photo: Nickelodeon The world was feeling nostalgic this week when a block of ’90s Nickelodeon series debuted on TeenNick. “All That,” “Clarissa Explains It All,” “Kenan & Kel” and “Doug” hit the airwaves Monday night at midnight, and for two hours, everyone was transported back to a wackier time in TV history during the aptly titled “The ’90s Are All That.” Former “All That” and “Kenan & Kel” star Kenan Thompson told MTV News the incredible public response is “very exciting.” Of his initial reaction to the news that his old shows would find a new home on the air, he said, “I thought it was crazy. It was very complimentary and felt really nice of them to do that, and it’s all fan requested and then that made it even better.” The shows are getting the late-night treatment, and Thompson said it’s the perfect time for 20-something’s to feel nostalgic. “We’re all at that age now where we’re night owls; everybody’s up anyway,” he said. “It’s a good idea for a spot. It’s crazy that it’s working because it’s like 10-year-old material that’s holding up against these shows.” The shows might be a fun trip back in time for adults now, but the “Saturday Night Live” actor said that back then, the content was all about “kids rule.” “That’s always made kids feel good watching it,” he said. “We were doing relatable material, and it wasn’t so forced. We just happened to be kids doing stuff.” The airing of the four shows, which all pre-date social networking, became such an overnight sensation that it caused an uproar on Twitter with various memes related to the shows (such as character names) all becoming Twitter trends. The ratings have also held their own against staple late-night talk shows. The idea is a hit , and Thompson is grateful for all the love. It’s a feeling he also had back in the day when he was busy working on both “All That” and “Kenan & Kel.” “Me, personally, I was just happy to be there. I wanted to be an actor from a very young age, and it was just an awesome time,” he explained. “It was my first TV gig. It was like a very, very cherished moment in life. “I have tons [of memories]. It’s funny to see everyone all grown up now,” he added. “It’s crazy. It’s funny to watch life progress and then to be thrown back into the mid-’90s, it’s cool.” Which is your favorite ’90s Nick series? Tell us in the comments below!

Young Jeezy Changes His Thug Motivation With The Times

The Snowman explains how his TM 103 reflects the economic hardships of the day. By Rob Markman, with reporting by James Smith Young Jeezy Photo: Monica Morgan/ WireImage The folks on Capitol Hill aren’t the only ones focused on the world financial crisis. Young Jeezy is well aware of the economic woes of the day, which play a role in his upcoming album TM 103. Starting with his 2005 debut album, Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101, Jeezy stood as a voice of the streets his entire career. In 2006, he dropped The Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102 and two years after he dropped his third LP, The Recession. On September 20, the Snowman will return to motivate the thugs on his oft-delayed TM 103, and for him the evolution of the TM album reflects the hard times that many Americans have fallen upon. ” TM 101 dropped at a time when money was so plentiful that you could’ve had too much of it at some point, and everybody was happy,” Jeezy told MTV News on Tuesday while backstage in Atlanta at the second of his Thug Motivation 101 six-year anniversary concerts . “Everybody was flamboyant, everybody was living, and nowadays it ain’t like that. So when I dropped TM 101, my whole focus was, we’re gonna get this money and that’s what it’s about. We’re gonna get this money, we’re gonna live life, we’re gonna have fun.” In 2011, people can’t spend money as frivolously as they once did, so Jeezy wasn’t about to stick to the old topics. “The evolution of that, 103 is more sort of like situations, like, OK, yeah we got to the money, we lost it two or three times, but what are we gonna do to maintain?” Jizzle asked before rattling off a few more hypothetical questions. “Are we gonna maintain? Are we gonna get back? Are we gonna stay focused on the get back, or we gonna get off track? Are we gonna pay attention to what they’re talkin’ about, or pay attention to what we need to do? That’s what the evolution is about.” The Georgia rapper has seen his music labeled as trap rap — a brand of hip-hop that focuses primarily on the Southern drug dealer. While that is a fair assessment of Young Jeezy’s sound on the surface, the rapper also believes that he is spreading a motivational message that can help his fans make it through their own trials and tribulations. It’s a musical tactic that he credits to the late Tupac Shakur. “It’s about knowing what to do. When I was growin’ up and I was listening to ‘Pac, all his situations apply to me today. I never knew that, I was just listening to the music and I thought it was good music,” Jeezy said. “Everything that he said applies to me today. Keep ya enemies close, money over bitches — that’s real talk.” Related Artists Young Jeezy
