Black Politicians Are Trying To Save The Democratic Party From Itself

View original post here:

W hile Democrats made some noteworthy strides in last week’s midterm elections, the consensus seemed to be that the party has been going down the wrong path of politics as of late. And nowhere has that been more clear than among its leadership, which has suffered a series of missteps and blunders that may have contributed to Democrats not being as successful as they had hoped in the crucial elections. All of which likely explains the apparent internal revolution going on with the Democratic Party, which could emerge post-elections with new leadership. Ohio’s Rep. Marcia Fudge , a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), is one of the latest to hint at plans to compete for the coveted House Speaker post, telling the Huffington Post on Thursday that she’s “overwhelmed” by all the folks who want to see her challenge Pelosi’s leadership. “I don’t hate Nancy. I think Nancy has been a very good leader. I just think it’s time for a new one,” she said, adding that there are far more lawmakers who oppose Pelosi’s leadership than the 17 who signed a letter saying they won’t vote for her to continue as speaker in 2019. “I've not made a decision, I'm still thinking about it,” Rep. Marcia Fudge tells @ElizLanders tonight, adding she's been “overwhelmed” by people urging her to run. pic.twitter.com/0vP9686qZ7 — Ashley Killough (@KilloughCNN) November 15, 2018 Fudge dismissed the narrative that Pelosi led the party back to power in the House and criticized the California Democrat for failing to advocate for Black lawmakers in Congress. Perhaps most troubling to Black Democrats is Pelosi’s eagerness to make peace with President Trump , who brought his long history of racism with him to the White House. Shortly after Democrats won control of the House, the speaker began talking about the same bipartisanship that the Trump-led Republicans have avoided like the plague. Meanwhile, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez also came under fire from the CBC. Caucus members passed a vote of no confidence on Wednesday against Perez who took over the DNC in February 2017. Perez praised Black women for leading the party to victory last year in key races in Virginia and Alabama. However, when it came to several Black women candidates in 2018 races, the party showed little support initially, like in the case of Ayanna Pressley . Yet those same Black women stepped up as voters and candidates alike to help the party regain control of the House. Lincoln Adim is a Liar, Bachelorette Producers Harshly Allege!

Becca Kurfin claims she fell in love with two men on her current season of The Bachelorette. But that predicament is nothing compared to the one producers of this show now find themselves in after word spread on Wednesday of Lincoln Adim’s past run-in with the law. Lincoln is a suitor on Season 14 and, as of this past Monday’s episode, is still in the running for Becca’s heart. You’ll need to visit our section of The Bachelorette spoilers in order to learn just how far he advances in the weeks ahead – but you only need to scroll down a little bit in order to learn the trouble Lincoln has gotten into. In May of 2016, Adim sexually accosted a woman on board a cruise ship. We don’t even need to use the word allegedly in this case because he was actually convicted of this illegal action two years later, just a few days before The Bachelorette premiered. Press Secretary Jake Wark of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office has said that Lincoln has to register as a sex offender for his behavior, while stating the following in regard to his conviction: The judge ordered him to stay away from the victim and attend three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings per week during those two years. If he complies with the judge’s orders, he will not have to serve out his term, but if he fails to comply with those orders or re-offends, he could be ordered to serve out the year behind bars. This was and is clearly a pretty big deal. So the natural next question to ask is this: How the heck did Lincoln get approved for the show?!? How were producers unaware of his assault charge and subsequent conviction? Simple, they now say in response: Because Lincoln is a liar! In a statement released by the press in response to this new Bachelorette scandal, the studio behind the ABC reality series says the following: “No one on The Bachelorette production had any knowledge about the incident or charges when Lincoln Adim was cast, and he himself denied ever having engaged in or having been charged with any sexual misconduct.” Well… yeah, right? No d’uh! Of course Lincoln would deny this. Why didn’t the team behind The Bachelorette use all the resources at their disposal to find the truth themselves?  Continues this production company statement: “We employ a well-respected and highly experienced third party who has done thousands of background checks consistent with industry standards to do a nationwide background check in this case. “The report we received did not reference any incident or charge relating to the recent conviction – or any other charges relating to sexual misconduct. The statement concludes: “We are currently investigating why the report did not contain this information, which we will share when we have it.” Fair enough. We’ll be curious to read it. Kellyanne Conway on Fox News: Go Buy Ivanka Trump’s Stuff!

Last week, high-end department store chain Nordstrom cut business ties with Ivanka Trump . The retailer stated that it would no longer stock clothing, shoes, and accessories branded by the president's daughter due to steadily declining sales. Nordstrom's response seems to be a perfectly reasonable business decision based on sales data, so naturally our level-headed and business-minded president took the diplomatic approach and wished the company success in its future endeavors. Just kidding, he went off in a childish Twitter rant because being the western world apparently leaves plenty of time for petty social media feuds. Fortunately, Trump has slightly less psychotic surrogates who are paid to assure the American people that the president isn't quite as unhinged as he seems to be online. The task seems have driven White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer to the brink of intestinal blockage by way of stress-gorging on cinnamon Orbitz, but fortunately for him, Kellyanne Conway lives for this sh-t. If you thought ” alternative facts ” and made-up terrorist attacks were bold, just wait until you see Conway brazenly flout federal ethics laws barring the use of public office for private gain. Conway appeared on Fox & Friends this morning, where she openly shilled for Ivanka's fashion line: “It’s a wonderful line. I own some of it,” Conway said. “I fully — I’m going to give a free commercial here. Go buy it today, everybody. You can find it online.” Considering conlifcts of interest due to the Trump family's business ties were a top concern for many voters, you would think the president's TV surrogate would avoid… … Ah, we're over expecting this administration to make sense. And hey, it's not every day you get to watch a democracy crumble in real time.

Kellyanne Conway shocked the world on Sunday, January 22, 2017.  How so? Obama Gun Photo Released Amid Call For Stronger Regulations

A photo of President Barack Obama skeet shooting at Camp David has been released following a claim last week that he engages in the activity regularly. It is the only known photo of Obama with a gun, and also comes amid a White House-backed push for stronger gun control regulations in the U.S. The photo shows Obama targeting clay pigeons at the presidential retreat last August, which he said he does “all the time” during stays at the compound. The comment, in an interview last Sunday, was a response to a question of whether he had ever held a firearm . Obama told the New Republic: “Not the girls, but oftentimes guests of mine go up there. I have a profound respect for the traditions of hunting that trace back in this country for generations.” “And I think those who dismiss that out of hand make a big mistake.” Given the current political atmosphere and polarizing gun control debate , some questioned whether the claim was an embellishment or even true at all. Politicians who use firearms often advertise that fact to gun owners, but in four years in office and two national campaigns, Obama has never brought it up. “If he is a skeet shooter, why have we not heard of this?” asked Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN). “Why has he not referenced it at any point [during this] gun debate?” “Why have we not seen photos?” Asked about the president’s interview, Press Secretary Jay Carney responded “I would refer you simply to his comments,” he said. “I don’t know how often.” Carney noted that when Obama travels to “Camp David, he goes to spend time with his family and friends and relax, not to produce photographs.” Some Obama supporters have already brushed off critics as “skeeters,” a play on the “birthers” like Donald Trump who doubted he was a U.S. citizen. “Attn skeet birthers. Make our day – let the photoshop conspiracies begin!” senior adviser and 2008 campaign manager David Plouffe wrote on Twitter. Conspiracy or not, and no matter how curiously timed the photo’s release may be, what can’t be refuted is the President’s commitment to reform. Obama signed several executive orders strengthening regulations of guns and revealed proposals to ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines. The gun control push began in response to the December mass-shooting of 20 first graders and six adults at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school. What do you think? Do you support tougher gun laws?   YES. Fewer guns, fewer tragedies! NO. It’s unconstitutional and won’t stop anything! View Poll »

This is a really interesting exchange from today’s briefing with White House Press Secretary Jay Carney. This is one of those “process” things. Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Truth Wins Out Blog Discovery Date : 12/04/2012 20:05 Number of articles : 2

REVIEW: Gosling and Clooney Bring Movie-Star Chops, and Movie-Star Stubble, to The Ides of March

George Clooney’s The Ides of March is an actors’ movie, a picture that gives performers some provocative things to do without necessarily providing a great story for them to hang onto. It’s also a movie made for grown-ups, and Lord knows there are few enough of those around today. But this story of an idealistic young press secretary who finds his principles eroded at the hands of a corrupt Democratic presidential candidate keeps getting in the way of its own chin-stroking: It’s carefully designed to make us think it’s making us think, but in the end, what’s it really telling us? That politics — and politicians — can be dishonest and ugly? Please don’t stop the presses for that one.
