Salty CEO Talk: Vice’s New CEO Doesn’t Have High Expectations For Desus & Mero’s Upcoming Show

Source: Charley Gallay / Getty Vice ‘s New CEO Has Some Choice Words For Desus & Mero You never know what you got ’til it’s gone–but in Nancy Dubuc’s case, it looks like she still doesn’t know what VICELAND had with Desus & Mero ; The new CEO of Vice seems to think the network’s formerly highest rated program won’t last at their new network, Showtime . In a recent interview with Elle , Dubuc expressed some disbelief in the brand, saying that Desus Nice and The Kid Mero’s fanbase isn’t in line with the group of people willing to pay for a platform like Showtime. How VICE's new CEO Nancy Dubuc plans to turn the historically male, historically dysfunctional company around. https://t.co/9nwdQ8LtTS — ELLE Magazine (US) (@ELLEmagazine) December 17, 2018 She is trying to fill up airtime on Vice’s television channel with high-quality content; later this year, she will introduce a two-hour nightly live broadcast in place of the former talk show hosted by Desus and Mero, whose departure to Showtime marked a major loss for the brand. “They’re going to a platform that their audience doesn’t pay for,” she tells me. “I told them, ‘You can always come back.’ ” Though accessibility is something that Bodega Boys fans were initially worried about as well, Desus and Mero know their fanbase–and as they expressed to Bossip in an interview following their live show in Atlanta this past summer, the new show (which starts February 21) will be available in more ways than one: Mero resumed, “people are scared because they think it’s gonna be wild inaccessible, and it’s not gonna be wild inaccessible.” “You don’t have to have a Showtime login to watch what we’re gonna put out,” Desus assured.  “ Bodega Hive  is something very personal to us…we cannot just sh*t on this f**king fanbase.” So, after ending their show 2 months early following the exciting announcement of a new Showtime gig, it looks like Vice still isn’t done taking shots at the most notable show to grace their own network. If Dubuc is still open to welcoming Desus and Mero back after the grief they expressed about the network following their departure, it seems pretty clear who needs who more. See you on February 21, ballbags.

Black Politicians Are Trying To Save The Democratic Party From Itself

The rest is here:

W hile Democrats made some noteworthy strides in last week’s midterm elections, the consensus seemed to be that the party has been going down the wrong path of politics as of late. And nowhere has that been more clear than among its leadership, which has suffered a series of missteps and blunders that may have contributed to Democrats not being as successful as they had hoped in the crucial elections. All of which likely explains the apparent internal revolution going on with the Democratic Party, which could emerge post-elections with new leadership. See Also: Black Women Call Out DNC And Ask For Meeting: ‘Organizing Without Black Women Will Prove To Be A Losing Strategy’ With the party struggling to recover from a political retreat for several election cycles, Speaker of the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been in the political crosshairs of Democrats who are eager to take her position . Ohio’s Rep. Marcia Fudge , a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), is one of the latest to hint at plans to compete for the coveted House Speaker post, telling the Huffington Post on Thursday that she’s “overwhelmed” by all the folks who want to see her challenge Pelosi’s leadership. “I don’t hate Nancy. I think Nancy has been a very good leader. I just think it’s time for a new one,” she said, adding that there are far more lawmakers who oppose Pelosi’s leadership than the 17 who signed a letter saying they won’t vote for her to continue as speaker in 2019. “I've not made a decision, I'm still thinking about it,” Rep. Marcia Fudge tells @ElizLanders tonight, adding she's been “overwhelmed” by people urging her to run. pic.twitter.com/0vP9686qZ7 — Ashley Killough (@KilloughCNN) November 15, 2018 Fudge dismissed the narrative that Pelosi led the party back to power in the House and criticized the California Democrat for failing to advocate for Black lawmakers in Congress. Perhaps most troubling to Black Democrats is Pelosi’s eagerness to make peace with President Trump , who brought his long history of racism with him to the White House. Shortly after Democrats won control of the House, the speaker began talking about the same bipartisanship that the Trump-led Republicans have avoided like the plague. Meanwhile, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez also came under fire from the CBC. Caucus members passed a vote of no confidence on Wednesday against Perez who took over the DNC in February 2017. Perez praised Black women for leading the party to victory last year in key races in Virginia and Alabama. However, when it came to several Black women candidates in 2018 races, the party showed little support initially, like in the case of Ayanna Pressley . Yet those same Black women stepped up as voters and candidates alike to help the party regain control of the House. Jeremy London Kidnapped, ‘Forced’ To Smoke Drugs

‘Party of Five’ star escaped bizarre kidnapping last week; alleged kidnapper is in custody. By MTV News staff Jeremy London Photo: Charley Gallay/WireImage Jeremy London — the actor best known for his roles in “Party of Five” and Kevin Smith’s “Mallrats” — was robbed and abducted by a man in Palm Springs, California, on Thursday night, beginning a five-hour ordeal in which he was held at gunpoint and forced to smoke drugs. Palm Springs police told RadarOnline that London, 37, was attempting to change a flat tire on his vehicle when several men stopped to help him. After London offered to drive the men home, one of them — a man identified as Palm Springs resident Brandon Adams — pulled a gun on the actor, then forced him to drive his own vehicle, smoke drugs and buy alcohol. “[During the kidnapping] he was forced to smoke dope [crack cocaine or amphetamines] and then purchase booze and hand it out in a gang area of Palm Springs,” Sergeant Steve Douglas told Radar. London managed to escape around 3 a.m. Friday, Douglas added. The actor’s vehicle was later recovered in the Palm Springs neighborhood where Adams lived. Adams was arrested and charged with several felonies, including kidnapping for ransom with injury, strong arm robbery, carjacking, receiving stolen property and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent. Adams pleaded not guilty, The Associated Press reported Thursday, but remains in custody with bail set at slightly more than $500,000. A publicist for London confirmed to the AP that the actor was indeed the kidnapping victim and that he is working closely with police in their investigation, adding that he is currently at “an undisclosed location with family and friends.” In the past, London has struggled with drug abuse. In an April interview with People magazine , he said he had spent time in a rehabilitation center due to a prescription drug addiction. In 2004, he was arrested for allegedly driving with a suspended license and carrying controlled substances.

Apolo Anton Ohno Sets Slime World Record At Kids’ Choice Awards

Olympic speed skater catapults into a pool of green goo during Nickelodeon awards show. By Amy Wilkinson Apolo Ohno breaks the world slime record at the 2010 Kids’ Choice Awards Photo: Charley Gallay/KCA2010/Getty Images As an Olympic speed skater, Apolo Anton Ohno is no stranger to setting records. The eight-time medalist became the Winter Olympics’ most decorated athlete during the 2010 games. But Ohno set a new gold standard at Saturday’s (March 27) 23rd annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards , catapulting into the slime world-record books. For the show’s grand finale, the “Dancing With the Stars” champ strapped himself into the Slime Slingshot, a human catapult that would sling him 60 yards in the air, through a goal post and into a small pool of gooey, green slime. Giving the thumbs-up sign to Slime Stunt Correspondent John Cena, Ohno “flew” through the air, cannon-balling into the waiting vat. Submerged for several seconds, Ohno rose, splashing slime on the onlookers surrounding the pool. Following the stunt, Ohno gave this detailed play-by-play: “Right here, I start peeing my pants,” he joked, reliving climbing into the catapult. “Then I’m thinking, ‘I can see my house from here.’ Finally, I’m thinking, ‘Would it have killed them to heat up the slime pool a little bit?’ ” Ohno was one of several famous faces to be doused in Nickelodeon’s signature green slime, including “Twilight” star Jackson Rathbone, singer Katy Perry and “Date Night” co-stars Tina Fey and Steve Carell. Despite his messy appearance, Ohno tweeted, “That was fun … KCA is the place to be!!” following the ceremony. What did you think of Apolo’s stunt? Let us know in the comments below!
