Host Seth Myers and others skewer sports oddities from James’ special to Paul the octopus. By Kyle Anderson Landon Donovan at the ESPY Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images The worlds of sports, movies, music and television came together under one roof on Wednesday, the quietest sports day of the year, for ESPN’s annual ESPY Awards. Dozens of stars — including Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant, American World Cup hero Landon Donovan, New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees and Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn — gathered at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles for a night of sports highlights and wacky comedy, orchestrated by host Seth Myers. Bryant, Donovan, Brees and Vonn each won some of the night’s biggest awards. Kobe, fresh off the Lakers’ latest championship and his second Finals MVP, scored the prize for Best NBA Player. Donovan won two trophies, one each for Best MLS Player and Best Moment in Sports (his game-winning goal against Algeria in the World Cup beat out the New Orleans’ Saints Super Bowl victory, Phil Mickelson’s win at the 2009 Masters and Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette’s performance at the Winter Olympics). Brees was voted Best Male Athlete, Best NFL Player and Best Championship Performance, while Vonn took home the prizes for Best Female Athlete and Best Female Olympian. Much of the humor during the evening — provided by the likes of Will Ferrell, Jon Hamm, Andy Samberg, Tracy Morgan, Zac Efron, Mark Wahlberg and Luke Wilson — was directed at LeBron James (who was also in attendance) and his recent one-hour special, “The Decision,” which ESPN aired last week. “Did it really need to be an hour?” Myers asked. “Somebody time me: ‘Miami.’ How long did that take? A second!” The 2010 FIFA World Cup was also the source of much humor. Ferrell came out for some vuvuzela-related jokes and Samberg appeared on the show as Paul, the German octopus who correctly predicted the winners of a handful of matches. But the highlight of the night was the surprise award given to President Barack Obama. His presence in the building was kept a secret, but he received a standing ovation when he approached the stage to accept his Lifetime Achievement ESPY, given for his “contributions and commitment to American sport.” What was your favorite moment from the 2010 ESPY Awards? Olympic speed skater catapults into a pool of green goo during Nickelodeon awards show. By Amy Wilkinson Apolo Ohno breaks the world slime record at the 2010 Kids’ Choice Awards Photo: Charley Gallay/KCA2010/Getty Images As an Olympic speed skater, Apolo Anton Ohno is no stranger to setting records. The eight-time medalist became the Winter Olympics’ most decorated athlete during the 2010 games. But Ohno set a new gold standard at Saturday’s (March 27) 23rd annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards , catapulting into the slime world-record books. For the show’s grand finale, the “Dancing With the Stars” champ strapped himself into the Slime Slingshot, a human catapult that would sling him 60 yards in the air, through a goal post and into a small pool of gooey, green slime. Giving the thumbs-up sign to Slime Stunt Correspondent John Cena, Ohno “flew” through the air, cannon-balling into the waiting vat. Submerged for several seconds, Ohno rose, splashing slime on the onlookers surrounding the pool. Following the stunt, Ohno gave this detailed play-by-play: “Right here, I start peeing my pants,” he joked, reliving climbing into the catapult. “Then I’m thinking, ‘I can see my house from here.’ Finally, I’m thinking, ‘Would it have killed them to heat up the slime pool a little bit?’ ” Ohno was one of several famous faces to be doused in Nickelodeon’s signature green slime, including “Twilight” star Jackson Rathbone, singer Katy Perry and “Date Night” co-stars Tina Fey and Steve Carell. Despite his messy appearance, Ohno tweeted, “That was fun … KCA is the place to be!!” following the ceremony. What did you think of Apolo’s stunt? Let us know in the comments below! MC suffered heart attack over the weekend. By Jayson Rodriguez Guru Photo: Virgin Gang Starr MC Guru suffered a cardiac episode over the weekend and is currently in a coma, according to multiple reports. Details were unavailable at press time about the rapper’s condition and when the incident occurred. Hot 97’s News Director Miss Info reported that Guru is currently in a New York-area hospital where he’s expected to undergo surgery. Gang Starr’s was scheduled to appear on Sirius XM’s Hip-Hop Nation satellite radio station late Sunday night to speak about Guru’s condition. At press time the status of that interview was unclear, but according to the producer’s blog, the sensitivity of the situation prevented him from speaking publicly. In the same post, Guru was described as “fighting for his life.” Comprised of Guru (born Keith Elam in Massachusetts) and Premier (born Christopher Martin in Texas), Gang Starr teamed together to help define the New York underground rap sound in the early ’90s. Premier’s production palette featured sampled jazz records and scratched vocals on the choruses, complimented Guru’s uncompromising rhymes. Although the pair would work separately as often as they did together — Guru’s Jazzmatazz series of albums and Premier’s work with Nas, Jay-Z, and underground act Group Home — Gang Starr continued to release critically acclaimed material throughout the late ’90s and early 2000s. Their 1998 album Moment of Truth was among their most critically lauded collections and Gangstarr’s biggest selling project to date. Gang Starr’s last group project, The Ownerz, was released in 2003. Guru recently re-released his 2005 solo debut as a digital download and re-christened it Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures . Guru spoke with MTV News at the time, noting the pair’s penchant for working on outside projects, but ultimately continuing to stoke the Gang Starr flames. “You went on your little vacation, but you come back home with a bunch of skills and other things to add to the table,” he said. “When we do Gang Starr it always gets more and more intense.” Related Artists Gang Starr

‘Cody rules,’ Bieber tweets about his encounter with the YouTube celeb. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Getty Images Monday (March 1) is Justin Bieber’s 16th birthday, but before he opened his own presents, he gave a huge gift to one of his youngest, but most enthusiastic, fans. Last week, 3-year-old Cody became an Internet sensation when her sister posted a video of her crying over the teen heartthrob on YouTube. In a pretaped segment for Monday night’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Bieber came face to face with the toddler. And in a fortunate turn of events, the encounter didn’t make Cody cry at all. Bieber posted a photo of their meeting and wrote, “Makin faces with Cody, Ciera, and @chynanny325 !! Awesome family and Cody isn’t crying..haha. Happy to surprise them.” He later tweeted about how much he loved meeting his little fan. “I met Cody. She is even cuter in person,” he wrote in response to Perez Hilton. And he wrote to Joe Jonas that the meeting occurred last Thursday. “Yep, Cody rules. Actually met her yesterday.” Cody’s older sister, Cheyenne, also wrote about the meeting on the Twitter account she started in response to Cody’s fame. “Hey guys watch us meet Justin on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ on Monday night…At midnight… He kissed me BTW… ahhh.” Related Videos 2010 Winter Olympics: From The Athletes’ Perspectives Related Artists Justin Bieber

J. Lo’s television blitz continues with ‘How I Met Your Mother’ cameo, rumored ‘Glee’ appearance. By Hillary Crosley Jennifer Lopez spoofs “We are the World” on SNL on Febuary 27 Photo: NBC Jennifer Lopez might be between record labels , but her television appearances have been fast and frequent. After filming an episode of CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” last month, playing a sexy self-help guru who seduces Neil Patrick Harris’ character, Lopez hit “Saturday Night Live” for the first time in almost a decade. “The first time I was on this show was 10 years ago. … Back then I was single and traveling around with a big entourage,” Lopez said, opening the show in a form-fitting black leather dress. “But people grow up; now I’m married with two beautiful children.” The singer/actress went on to have an awkward conversation with comedian and “SNL” cast member Kenan Thompson, who was posing as a discarded member of her 1990s entourage, flanked by two drag queens wearing her infamous green barely-there dress and a denim bodysuit. All ended well as Thompson left the stage with the drag queens in tow and J. Lo began the show. Another skit portrayed “We Are the World 3,” a spoof of the recent remake. Lopez played Rihanna , wearing a black and white Balmain-inspired leather jacket with gold hoops, hipster sunglasses and a blond cropped wig. “There comes a time, eh!, when we heed a certain call, eh!” Lopez sang, poking fun at the “Rude Boy” singer. In the next skit, Lopez was part of a Winter Olympics curling team. She played a confused Telemundo reporter covering the Winter Olympics in another. “We don’t understand these, es loca!” said Lopez, wearing an orange blazer. The strangest clip had to be a mock celebrity news interview in which Lopez was questioned by Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader, leading the Bronx native to scream “paciencia y fe” (“patience and faith”) like a madwoman before stomping out of view. Lopez also performed two guiter-led songs including the Danja-produced, Wynter Gordon-written “Starting Over” from her forthcoming album, Love? Her LP is slated to hit stores this summer. Lopez still has not specified what label she has signed to, but Deadline Hollywood , the blog that originally broke the story of the Sony split, reported that she is in talks with Island Def Jam. Neither she nor her former label, Sony Records, has discussed what precipitated the split, but Deadline speculated that it might have been a response to the poor critical and commercial reception to the album’s first official single, “Louboutins,” which failed to light up the charts. Lopez’s episode of “How I Met Your Mother” airs March 8, and she is rumored to be in talks for an appearance on the Golden Globe-winning show “Glee.” Related Artists Jennifer Lopez
