Ray Harryhausen, a pioneer of stop-motion animation and visual effects, has died at the age of 92. Harryhausen, inspired by the 1933 film King Kong , began working with stop-motion and visual effects in the 1940’s. He is best known for creating the skeleton sword fight in 1963’s Jason and the Argonauts . Other works include C lash of the Titans , It Came from Beneath the Sea, and Mysterious Island . Harryhausen has inspired generations of filmmakers, including George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, and Terry Gilliam. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and colleagues.
