My Chemical Romance ‘A Month Away’ From Recording New Album

Guitarist Frank Iero also has kind words for new drummer Jarrod Alexander during interview with New Jersey’s Aquarian Weekly. By James Montgomery My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero Photo: Gary Miller/ FilmMagic My Chemical Romance are set to return to the studio and begin work on the follow-up to 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, though they’re keeping details of the project close to whatever kind of vest (Studded? Bandolier-ed? DayGlo?) they’re wearing these days. That’s according to guitarist Frank Iero, who revealed the info earlier this week in an interview with New Jersey’s The Aquarian Weekly (MCR are one of the headliners at this weekend’s Bamboozle fest in Asbury Park, New Jersey, replacing Blink-182) but was tight-lipped about pretty much everything else. “It’s going really well, I’m really excited,” Iero said of the new album. “I can’t wait to start tracking. I think we’re maybe a month away from the record button lighting up.” When asked what fans can expect on the new album (perhaps another conceptual turn?), Iero jokingly responded, “No f—ing way.” He provided a similar answer when asked when the album would be hitting stores, though he did say that MCR — who have built their own studio for the new album — will once again working with longtime engineer Doug McKean. “Doug is a special human being. He’s a f—ing genius when it comes to making records and he’s f—ing rotten, just like us,” Iero said. “When you find someone just as rotten as you are, you shouldn’t let them go.” And while Iero wasn’t exactly forthcoming with details about My Chem’s new album, he had no problem praising new drummer Jarrod Alexander (who will play on the upcoming disc) or taking shots at former kit-minder Michael Pedicone, whom the band fired in 2011 amid accusations of theft. “Jarrod is a rad guy and a fantastic player. It’s been really fun making music with him these past few months. He loves coffee and hitting drums super-hard,” Iero said. “And the fact that he’s not a thieving piece of garbage is a breath of fresh air.” What are you expecting from new MCR music? Katy Perry to Perform at Grammy Awards, Super Bowl Pre-Party

Katy Perry has booked her first U.S. performances since breaking up with Russell Brand late last year. It looks like she’s got a busy week ahead of her, too. The 27-year-old hits the stage at a private pre-Super Bowl party in Indianapolis Saturday, then will do double duty on Grammy weekend in Los Angeles. On February 10, she’ll be among the headliners honoring Paul McCartney at the MusiCares benefit. Then it’s on to the 2012 Grammy Awards February 12! Perry is a nominee for Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Solo Performance, and has enjoyed a record-setting year, making the Grammys a fitting return spot. Katy has performed abroad as a single woman, just not in the U.S. In her first show since Russell Brand filed for divorce , Perry planted a kiss on a lucky fan’s cheek. A pic of Perry smooching the surprised, shirtless male onstage caused quite a stir on the Internet. Katy set the record straight on Twitter afterward, though: “I have *kissed* 1 boy, picked randomly out of the audience, on the cheek as part of my show for all 125 tour dates,” she tweeted. “Simmer down now.” LOL. Sure … but were you single then, Katy?! [Photo: WENN.com]

Raekwon Remembers ODB Before Rock The Bells Tour Launch

Wu-Tang’s Chef expects crowd to fill in late MC’s verses as they perform 36 Chambers. By Shaheem Reid Wu-Tang Clan Photo: LOUD For fans of the architects of hip-hop, the countdown is almost over, and the annual fest that mixes hot newcomers with rap trailblazers is almost upon us. Guerilla Union’s annual Rock the Bells Tour starts Saturday at L.A.’s NOS Center with a historic lineup that includes Snoop Dogg, Slick Rick, the Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, KRS-One and Rakim. Each of the headliners will perform a classic album from their catalog, and special guest Lauryn Hill will be igniting the stage with a bevy of her hits as well. Wu-Tang has chosen Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) as the LP for their set . The Clan’s Raekwon calls Rock the Bells the “royal rumble of hip-hop.” And while the Chef said he’s excited about revisiting the Clan’s breathtaking debut, he’ll definitely miss the show-stealing presence of late comrade Ol’ Dirty Bastard. “Dirty had given us the energy booster that we need to believe that we are the best,” Rae told MTV News recently in New York. “I still think about him. … I think as I’m getting a little older, I’m getting a little more sensitive in certain places when it comes to my brother being gone. “It’s gonna be fun to get out here and represent and talk about him and see all them fans go crazy because they love Dirty,” he continued. “They love Dirty so much, I know for a fact that when them records come on, they’re gonna go crazy.” Rae expects the crowd to fill in verses for their beloved brother during records such as “Shame on a N—a,” “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’ ” and, of course, “Protect Ya Neck.” “That’s a beautiful thing,” Rae said about crowd participation. “When I think about my brother not being here, it still keeps me wanting to keep that Wu-Tang flag as high as it can be. He was the one that really gave us all the spirit.” Will you be checking Wu-Tang out at Rock the Bells? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Ol’ Dirty Bastard Raekwon
