Tommy Ramone, the last surviving member of iconic punk rock group The Ramones, died on Friday, a business associate has confirmed. He was 62 years old. No further details on Ramone’s death have been released, but his passing was announced by Dave Frey, who works for Ramones Productions and Silent Partner Management. A drummer, Tommy Ramone co-founded the Ramones in 1974 in New York along with singer Joey Ramone; bassist DeeDee Ramone. and guitarist Johnny Ramone. All four band members were born different last names, but took the common name Ramone as part of their image. The group’s biggest hits included, “I Wanna Be Sedated,” “Blitzkrieg Bop,” and “Beat on the Brat.” The Ramones were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Joey Ramone passed way in 2001 from lymphatic cancer, while Dee Dee Ramone died the following year from a drug overdose and Johnny Ramone succumbed to prostate cancer on 2004.
