Mike Nichols Passes Away; Celebrities Pay Tribute on Twitter

Hollywood woke up this morning very sad news: Director  Mike Nichols is dead at the age of 83. In response to Nichols’ passing, celebrities took to Twitter and mourned the man who helmed such beloved filmed as The Graduate, Working Girl, Angels in America, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolff and The Birdcage. Katerina Netolicka Dead: Czech Model, Face of Prada and L’Oreal, Was 26

Katerina Netolicka, a Czech model who has appeared as a cover girl for Prada and L’Oreal, among other high profile brands, has been found dead. She was 26. Her two dogs were also found dead along with her in the model’s apartment in the Czech Republic. She was discovered by her brother, reports indicate. Katerina Netolicka shared the apartment with ice hockey player boyfriend of five years Jakub Petruzalek, 29, who was out of the country at the time. The model’s body was discovered after she failed to answer her brother’s calls and he became increasing worried. He decided to go over in person. After going to the apartment and failing to get an answer when he knocked, he broke the door down and found the model and her two pets also dead. The model, who began her career ten years ago, was a woman of many talents and also known for winning this year’s Czech Championships in kickboxing. She was also prone to depression and had a history of self-harm, however. A fellow model who lived with her in New York seven years ago said of Katerina: “Sometimes she acted like two totally different people lived inside her.” 23 Shocking Celebrity Deaths 1. Paul Walker Paul Walker died in a car accident on November 30, 2013. He left behind a daughter and a burgeoning film career. “One minute she was very happy, almost ecstatic. Then sometimes depressed and used to self-harm. I really don’t know what could have happened.” “Maybe she got a spasm after kickbox training, maybe it was a stroke. I know she had stopped self-harming and was very happy with her boyfriend.” In any case, her family, friends and fans are in mourning Friday. Her official Facebook post was updated by someone who broke the bad news: “I’m sorry to let you know this terrible news. Kate has left this world.” “Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends.” Police spokeswoman Lumila Svetlakova said the cause of death is unknown but an autopsy has been requested. In a brief statement, the police said: “The body of young woman was found in Litvinov’s district of Hamr. The cause of death is at this moment unknown and we have requested an autopsy.” R.I.P. Tom Magliozzi Dies: Car Talk Host Was 77

Tom Magliozzi – one of public radio’s most beloved figures – passed away today at 77.  From 1977 to 2012, Magliozzi and his brother Ray hosted the peabody Award-winning Car Talk on NPR. Much more than a simple auto repair call-in show, Car Talk was enlivened by Ray and Tom’s razor-sharp banter and incredible wit. Tom worked as an engineer after graduating from MIT in 1958 before a near-fatal car accident during his lengthy commute prompted him to choose a new career. He described the incident during a 1999 commencement speech at his alma mater: “I quit my job,” Magliozzi said. “I became a bum. I spent two years sitting in Harvard Square drinking coffee. I invented the concept of the do-it-yourself auto repair shop, and I met my lovely wife.” That period led to the creation of Car Talk, which started off on local Boston radio, and soon became a favorite amongst gear-heads and casual NPR listeners alike. Tom and Ray retired from the show in 2012 after Tom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Magliozzi is the second beloved son that the city of Boston has lost in les than a week, following the death of Thomas Menino last week this past Thursday.  Celebrities We Lost in 2014 1. Brittany Maynard Ends Own Life; Cancer Patient Was 29 Years Old

Brittany Maynard chose to end her own life today. The 29-year old has made headlines over the past few months for taking advantage of Oregon’s Death with Dignity Act, which allows one to take a fatal dose of barbiturates (prescribed by a doctor) in the case of a life-threatening disease. Maynard was told by physicians last spring that she had Stage 4 glioblastoma and would likely pass away within six months. Wrote Maynard in a Facebook post today before making her fatal decision: “Goodbye to all my dear friends and family that I love. Today is the day I have chosen to pass away with dignity in the face of my terminal illness, this terrible brain cancer that has taken so much from me … but would have taken so much more. “The world is a beautiful place, travel has been my greatest teacher, my close friends and folks are the greatest givers. I even have a ring of support around my bed as I type … Goodbye world. Spread good energy. Pay it forward!” On October 6, Maynard launched an online video campaign with Compassion & Choices, an end-of-life choice advocacy organization, to fight for expanding death with dignity laws around the country. Maynard spent the final months traveling to Alaska, British Colombia and Yellowstone National Park with her loved ones. “For me what matters most is the way I’m remembered by my family and my husband as a good woman who did my best to be a good wife and a good daughter,” Maynard told People last month, adding: “Beyond that, getting involved with this campaign, I hope to be making a difference here. If I’m leaving a legacy, it’s to change this health-care policy or be a part of this change of this health care policy so it becomes available to all Americans. Jay Adams, an iconic skate boarder who was portrayed by Emile Hirsch in the movie Lords of Dogtown, died late last night in Mexico. He was 53 years old. Insiders tell TMZ that Adams passed away of an apparent heart attack while on vacation with his wife and two children. They had been on an extended three-month holiday when the tragedy struck. Adams had reportedly been sober for months and had no history of heart problems. The extreme athlete had been in and out of prison since the early 1980s on a variety of drug charges. Lauren Bacall Dies; Legendary Actress Was 89

Lauren Bacall, a legendary actress who got her start back in 1944 and worked for six decades in cinema, has passed away. She was 89 years old. Bacall’s death was confirmed by the Humphrey Bogart Estate via Facebook. “With deep sorrow for the magnitude of our loss, yet with great gratitude for her amazing life, we confirm the passing of Lauren Bacall,” read the online message posted this evening. Bacall appeared in the Harper’s Bazaar cover when she was 19 and was signed by Warner Bros. in 1943. She appeared in a Hemingway novel adaption (To Have and Have Not) in 1944 and married Humphrey Bogart a year later. She and the famous actor were parents to a son (Stephen) and a daughter (Leslie), though Bogat died in 1957. Bacall admittedly had an affair with Frank Sinatra and also had a son with Jason Robards, her husband of 12 years. Celebrities We Lost in 2014 1. Philip Seymour Hoffman R.I.P. At the age of 72, Bacall  was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for playing the mother of Barbra Streisand’s character in The Mirror Has Two Faces. The long-time star’s passing comes on the heels of Robin Williams committing suicide .

Kevin Ward Jr. Family to Tony Stewart: You’re a D–k!

Kevin Ward Jr., the 20-year-old racing prospect killed in an accident by NASCAR star Tony Stewart, is being mourned across his native New York State and beyond. While no criminal investigation into Stewart’s conduct is underway, Ward’s relatives and friends are taking Tony to task for his actions in the wake of the tragedy. The young driver’s aunt posted to Facebook Sunday after the crash, “Thanks for thinking of our family [Tony] Stewart when you decided to be a d!ck!” Tony Stewart Kills Kevin Ward Jr. She called her late nephew “one of a kind, a true race car driver, a p!ss head and a sweetie all in one, a young man who will be truly missed by many!” Kevin Ward’s parents, who were reportedly in the stands watching the race, were a bit more diplomatic, according to local ABC affiliate WHAM: “We appreciate the prayers and support we are receiving from the community, but we need time to grieve and wrap our heads around all of this.” As previously reported, in an incident filmed by a fan, Tony Stewart killed Kevin Ward Jr. accidentally on the race track this weekend in Canandaigua, N.Y. His car swiped Ward’s, which spun out of control, at which point Kevin exited his car and began roaming the track on foot, pointing at Stewart. Then tragedy struck. When he approached closely, Stewart’s car fishtailed and Ward was struck, with an onlooker bellowing in horror, “Tony Stewart hit that guy!” Ontario County Sheriff’s officials say that they have yet to uncover any criminal intentions on Stewart’s part, no matter the unthinkable result that took place. Empire Super Sprints race director and president Chuck Miller said that there was “no history with these two drivers,” and called this a tragic accident. He chalked it up to “the competitive nature of the game and the drivers around it … any time Tony has raced with us, Kevin also raced. Tony’s been good for us.” The 43-year-old Stewart pulled out of Sunday’s race, saying, “There aren’t words to describe the sadness I feel about the accident that took the life of Kevin Ward Jr.” “It’s a very emotional time for all involved.” “It is the reason I’ve decided not to participate in today’s race at Watkins Glen. Okay, so Kim Kardashian is a terrible mom , a talentless, materialistic, fame-hungry human being, and the biggest reason that the rest of the world hates America. But at least she’s hot, right?! Well … not all the time. 13 Worst Kim Kardashian Photos! 1. Kim Kardashian Krying Kim gets her ugly cry on. It’s definitely not her best look. Everyone poses for a fugly photo now and then, but while you might be powerless when your Great Aunt Edna tags you on Facebook, Kim is anything but. With an army of PR specialists to help hide unflattering pics from the world, Mrs. West does her best to scrub the best of any less than flattering images. But this is the Internet Age, and she has cameras on her 24/7. Even the daily avalanche of Kim Kardashian bikini selfies can’t bury every pic of Kim looking like she should be strolling through Wal-Mart stocking up on one-ply TP and bargain basement diapers for North. The main lesson to be learned from the gallery above is that there’s no avoiding the occasional foul photo, no matter who you are or what you do. So next time you end up on Instagram mid-blink with nacho cheese on your chin, just be glad that unlike Kim, you don’t have 17 million followers. The other lesson to be learned is: Kim crying in public is a terrible sight to behold. It’s amazing that she still allows herself to be photographed weeping in public, but we wouldn’t be surprised if she used her ugly crier status to her advantage. We’re guessing Kanye gives her anything she wants just to keep her from crumpling up her face in front of the paparazzi. And if he doesn’t he should start.
