Aaron Paul to Play Young Han Solo in Star Wars Spinoff?!

Looks like the Millennium Falcon might be getting outfitted with some chintzy rims and a secret stash spot, because Jesse Pinkman is rumored to be taking the wheel. In addition to the J.J. Abrams-directed Episode VII slated for release in December of 2015, Disney plans to produce a series of standalone spinoff features with various directors at the helm. One such film is rumored to center around the adventures of a young Han Solo, with Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul in the leading role. Thus far, this rumor has been confirmed by exactly no one who’s connected to the production, but it’s been reported as fact by a site called Making Star Wars that actually has a pretty good track record with regard to accuracy. Of course, we’ll cop to a bit of wishful-thinking bias, because we’re seriously hoping we’ll get to hear the line, “It’s the ship that made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs, bitch !” Let’s not get ahead of ourselves in terms of Star Wars rumors, though. The solo Solo flick (if it happens at all) won’t be released for years, so let’s just focus on how awesome the Episode VII trailer looks and try to hibernate until this time next year. You know a movie will be badass when even the fake, fan-made trailers look amazing. So yeah, our appetite for a galaxy far, far away will soon be sated, and we should be happy with what’s already in store. Still, we can’t stop thinking that Paul as Solo would be perfect casting… And yes, many have already made the joke that Khloe Kardashian should be cast as Chewbacca, but we’ll repeat it here anyway, because it’s our new year’s resolution to stop being terrible people, but last we checked, it’s still 2014. 11 Memorable Scenes from the Star Wars Trailer 1. John Boyega As… … A Stormtrooper, we assume. But could this new cast member be posing as a Stormtrooper?

Tom Magliozzi Dies: Car Talk Host Was 77

Tom Magliozzi – one of public radio’s most beloved figures – passed away today at 77.  From 1977 to 2012, Magliozzi and his brother Ray hosted the peabody Award-winning Car Talk on NPR. Much more than a simple auto repair call-in show, Car Talk was enlivened by Ray and Tom’s razor-sharp banter and incredible wit. Tom worked as an engineer after graduating from MIT in 1958 before a near-fatal car accident during his lengthy commute prompted him to choose a new career. He described the incident during a 1999 commencement speech at his alma mater: “I quit my job,” Magliozzi said. “I became a bum. I spent two years sitting in Harvard Square drinking coffee. I invented the concept of the do-it-yourself auto repair shop, and I met my lovely wife.” That period led to the creation of Car Talk, which started off on local Boston radio, and soon became a favorite amongst gear-heads and casual NPR listeners alike. Tom and Ray retired from the show in 2012 after Tom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Magliozzi is the second beloved son that the city of Boston has lost in les than a week, following the death of Thomas Menino last week this past Thursday.  Celebrities We Lost in 2014 1. Thomas Menino Dies: Beloved Boston Mayor Was 71

Thomas M. Menino – the longest-serving mayor in the history of the city of Boston – died today at the age of 71. Menino was elected to his post back in 1993. He retired earlier this year after overseeing a decades-long urban renewal project that revitalized the appearance and identity of the city in which he was born and raised. Just two months after stepping down in January of 2014, Menino announced that he was battling an advanced form of cancer that had spread to his liver and lymph nodes. Menino’s most notable achievement in recent years may have been serving as a source of strength and guidance for frightened citizens in the wake of the Boston marathon bombing of 2013. “Bold, big-hearted, and Boston strong, Tom was the embodiment of the city he loved and led for more than two decades,” said President Obama in a statement issued earlier today. “As Boston’s longest-serving mayor, Tom helped mane his hometown the vibrant, welcoming, world-class place it is today. His legacy lives on in every neighborhood he helped revitalize, every school he helped turn around, and every neighborhood he helped make a safer, better place to live.” Menino leaves behind his wife Angela, as well as two children and six grandchildren.
